  • what nujabe's track is this sampled in?

  • @LOGIC42369 World's End Rhapsody

  • The memories of listening to Kola 99.9 in Bigbear with my grandparents.

  • @MugenTensaiKanosei I may possibly do so - when I tire of James Carr, Paul Kelly and Linda Jones...

  • @GoldenPubes - Except that one version is credited to Nujabes, and the Quadraphonics are treated as little more than an anonymous backing track - that's the whole point! Now, since you know so much, kindly detail exactly WHAT monies/kudos the Quadraphonics got from this musical travesty? (As for the frequent references to my "age" on here, that speaks volumes for your collective youthful ignorance, IMO... I dare say the artists your pathetic heroes "sample" are a great deal older than me!)

  • @drwhatson Please just give Nujabes- sensei's music a listen

  • @Shea354 When you people show proper respect to the music and artists of my own generation and stop constantly ripping them off, then I'll happily reciprocate. Until then you can expect more of the same...

  • @drwhatson Dr Whatson must be a bitter old man to be angrily posting like this on YouTube. Did you just learn how to use the internets, sir? I guess all the guys on Blue Note were lying when they gave their endorsement to Madlib to sample a bunch of their music. You know, it is possible to enjoy the classic originals and the more recent sampled versions. You don't have to be such a close-minded child - both versions of this quadraphonics song are great

  • Where can i found the torrent?

  • @ngmaze find*

  • This is where Nujabes sampled that one song?. He must've known a lot about music.

  • I actually find this song addicting. I have to listen to it at least 3 or 4 times in a row before I move on to something else. I want to hear more from this group and their music needs to be on CD or iTunes. NOW. I hope they are getting royalty checks. I wonder if this was a teen group or if they were over 21. They sound young. Their band is super tight and the strings are just right. Someone should try to use this song in a TV commercial like for an iPod or other cool product. Song is catchy.

  • Berry Gordy missed this one. This sounds like something the Jackson 5 could've recorded in the mid '70s during their Dancing Machine days. This could have been an influence on the J5 sound after they moved Motown to LA. The song "Honey Love" comes to mind. This song has a very STRONG pop sound. The lead is singing his heart out. They sounded determined to make it big. I don't understand why this song isn't well known. It also sounds like something the Backstreet Boys would've tried in the '90s.

  • Drwhatson, you blindly defend the artist and the music when even the sampled songs pay tribute to the original?

We don't prefer one or the other and calling a sampler artist a talentless hack is just a disgrace to the original because he is simply glorifying them. If you even had any sense of modern music such as hip hop you'd know that we look up to the past, not down on it. It's a great song, hence why it was sampled. Music is music.

Internet arguments really? Just listen to the damn art.

  • @tonbonthemon ...but not retarded enough to listen to the half-baked crap that passes for "creative music" in your circle of sheep, eh?

  • Honestly, if it wasn't for Nujabes, I would not have had the honor of hearing the amazing artists he has sampled from. Giving me the inspiration to make an effort to find the artist that were sampled and further find more music from them. Luiz Bonfa, Joachim Kuhn, George Benson, Pat Methany, Pharoah Sanders and many more. Artist I've come to truly love and appreciate all thanks to Nujabes.

  • @Tayoballs i know how you feel. it's so interesting how there are so many songs and artist, that are barely known by this current generation, that have such great melodies and stuff :)

  • I really don't give a flying damn for your opinions of me. This record belongs to the Quadrophonics, not you and your brain-dead, thieving sampling activities. You're just a herd of moronic zombie sheep without an original thought between you.

  • @drwhatson drwhatson, are familiar with the artist Terry Callier?

  • @drwhatson hey do i only see hate comments, music is for people to enjoy it, im sure they worked out the legal rights or they wouldnt have sampled it or anything, IF anything the remixes would want people to see the orginla EVEN more

  • @drwhatson You're fucking retarded.

  • Comment removed

  • Well, you can all FO, 'cos your 'hero' was a evidently another talentless loser, as shown by the pathetic mess he made by stifling this great song. Anyone with half an ear can tell how superior the original is to the 'No 'jamas' crappy remake. Time you got an education in real music, rather than pandering to endless DJ vanity projects.

  • Comment removed

  • @datgamerboy lol what, you don't down talk someone, telling them not to down talk other people. You are a hypocrite, sir.

  • @SnapSunny i most certainly am not

  • @drwhatson Ummm....some sample to pay homage. And his name isn't No jamas. At least respect the man and spell his name correctly. It's Nujabes. If you don't like a remake or a sampled song, then don't listen to it. Simple, no? No reason to disrespect other people just because you don't like a song/technique. And calling us a herd of moronic zombie sheep for liking an artist that you don't? Really unecessary, childish and quite rude. Show some respect, please and thank you.

  • I can't believe that moron DrWhatson is bitching about Nujabes sampling this song when this is a reinterpretation of "Bet You If You Ask Around".

All 3 songs are pure art. It's not wrong to enjoy one more than the other versions.

  • @drwhatson you must be right stuck in the past to not embrace sampling in any form. Enjoy your bitter old age

  • WORLDS END RHAPSODY <3

  • this is better than today's mainstream music

  • @drwhatson whoa, for someone who takes music this seriously you should relax and realize this is how music works. people sample things for better or worse. you must have some elitist hangups to think that samples somehow ruin the original.

also, you said something about "holding out" on the music when you said: "Though I hesitate to offer more artists up to the potential attentions of the "we-don't-know-nothin'-if-it-ain't-been-sampled" generation" - very sad. spread music, don't hoard it.

  • i luv it!

  • You've got to enjoy the beauty of music no matter what time period it came from. It's the message the music sends that's important, and whether it places it's foundations in an older generation should not matter. Just listen.

  • Shut the fuck up and listen

  • Juno and Dr Whatson really got into an interesting debate.

I can understand what they both were trying to prove and I believe they both are correct in ways. Certain artists lack the talent to successfully sample an artist and then make a mockery of the original work. Then again, there are those artists that can make an original piece of work into something of its own beauty.

Also, sampling actually does give exposure to the artists that were sampled, at least in my case.

    This song is gold.

  • @drwhatson you criticize that generation for not knowing the music you deem worth knowing yet you want to hold out on it lest it become well known/sampled? this seems like a defeatist/elitist mindset to me.

  • @treedmusic Who said anything about "holding out" on this music??? I repeat, this tune was WIDELY known (and played) at the time and is still played occasionally in certain UK clubs. It has featured on compilation CDs, is regularly for sale (cheaply) on ebay etc. It is no great "discovery" to sample this particular tune, and to totally ruin it into the process just shows what little nous today's so-called "producers" actually have, compared to the originators.

  • this better play during the 'world's end'- aha get it? XP

  • GREAT SONG FROM 1974

  • Oh No! Don't tell me that another half-baked rapper has sampled THIS gem! - Is there no END to their bloody lack of original talent? Damn them all.

  • @drwhatson Woah, woah, woah, show some respect dude. Nujabes was no half baked anything. He was a god of a musician that reupholstered this oldie into something that's new, but still reminiscent. His remake is damn pretty. The song he made using this is called World's End Rhapsody. Give it a look.

  • @Juno36 Please tell me why I should "show respect" to anyone who doesn't respect the music I grew up with and love? I'm sick and tired of my favourite old songs being constantly sampled and "re-made" (ie. destroyed) by far lesser talents. They're mostly utter trash, without an ounce of real inspiration, and with the sample invariably the best part of the song. Quite how does using a muffled sample of this great song under a not very interesting different tune make that any different?

  • @drwhatson The reason Nujabes went back and sampled these old songs that were all but lost and forgotten was because he did respect them and wanted other people to be exposed to them also. If he sampled a song, he did it in such a way that would spark interest in the original, but his objective wasn't to change it completely. If you looked at the other songs he sampled you'd understand.

  • @drwhatson You should understand that guarding your music and refusing to let people touch it may seem like a noble way to pay homage to the artists, but when you do that, the music falls into reclusion, and NO ONE appreciates it. By the way, it does good to actually give an artist a chance before you judge their talent; Nujabes didn't always take samples, and was actually a very good musician. And I'll stop there, because I'll be going for 4 more replies if I don't.

  • @Juno36 Nonetheless I object to what he's done to the song, and the many other useless reworkings of perfectly good songs, just to appeal to a generation who seem to be totally ignorant of their own musical past. These tunes are far from "forgotten" - many thousands of people around the world know them well. Over 600 people were dancing to this record just the other week at a venue I attended in fact, and I doubt if any of them have ever heard of Nujabes, (thankfully).

  • @drwhatson That's absurd. So a handful of thousands that originally knew this song is enough to deny the millions of potential new listeners that would appreciate it, even through a re-make? You need to understand that constricting music to a group of old school listeners will only help great music like this be lost. New people need to put their hands in it so more people can be exposed to it. You don't have to like it, but respect is something different.

  • @Juno36 This is simply NOT the case! Many of the tunes being sampled are (now) readily available on CD compilations, which is often (I suspect), where contemporary artists first hear them - and that is entirely due to fans of the original songs keeping the music alive, via regular discos and radio play, and often compiling the reissue CDs in the first place!. The Quadraphonics' record was/is known to many, many younger people of my own acquaintance, long before Nujabes got hold of it.

  • @drwhatson Or do the comments here that pay respect to Nujabes for sampling this, and his World's End Rhapsody video with almost 400,000 listens count for nothing? I'm not saying that people liking it is sure fire proof that it's good. Honestly, most of what people like is garbage. But if you believe the original is that much better, then wouldn't more people to agree with you now they've heard it? This is the kind of thing that keeps people interested in oldies and changes musical taste.

  • @Juno36 ...and 90% of those leaving comments only heard it via Nujabes - So? They still had no idea who the Quadraphonics were, apparently. In terms of "hits", I bet the videos for the latest X-Factor singer has even more than 400,000. That suggests that the average person doesn't dig very far for their music - no further than the latest popular CD? By Nujabes etc? My only concern is that these musicians get proper recognition, not the back-handed compliment of being eternally (badly) "sampled".

  • @drwhatson It seems like everything I have said and, I'm willing to assume, will say is just going over your head. It would seem I'm trying to convince you of something you are not only far from being open to, but not willing to even conceive. My comments still stand. I, however, will leave you to your beliefs in the hopes that one day, you'll open your mind to something new.

  • @Juno36 Nothing you have to say "goes over my head" (cheek!). I'm just waiting for you to adequately explain how the likes of Nujabes etc. do ANYTHING to help the likes of the Quadraphonics and their numerous ilk. They don't. The popular expression "ripping" (a tune) says it all, ie. "Ripping it off". They are really no better than bootleggers in my opinion (and I am FAR from alone in this opinion)

Good luck with your quest to discover real music - you have a long, long journey ahead of you.

  • @drwhatson Interesting. I was and still am, perfectly willing to let this go, in the realization that discussing this with you is little less than a waste of time. But before I do that, I have to ask you: what is your definition of real music? I mean, since I have this long journey to look forward to, I wonder whether you'd be a sport and give me something that I should be able to recognize when I stumble upon it (quite blindly I might add, seeing how I'm totally lost for direction right now).

  • @Juno36 Then I suggest you start by listening to some REAL SOUL music, as the constant ripping off of this genre over the years is what my whole beef is about - then we might actually get on the same page (eventually). Though I hesitate to offer more artists up to the potential attentions of the "we-don't-know-nothin'-if-it-ain't-been-sampled" generation, try Linda Jones, Garnett Mimms, Bettye Lavette, Sam Dees, Margie Alexander, James Carr...

or try some "Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures" CDs

  • @drwhatson Right. Well, I appreciate that. I've learned more than a few things with this. Cheers.

  • @drwhatson

    U MAD BRO!?

also you should relax before you get an heart attack

  • @drwhatson lawl madlib dilla kanye nujabes all the producers were listening to this. just because they sample the music doesnt mean they cant take key parts of the song and flip it into a better song. and yes i mean better because you can take the groove out of a song and make it funk.

  • @drwhatson another half-baked rapper did not sample this gem

  • I just wanted to post that i like this song more then nujabes "version". But: who cares! enjoy the music and be thankful for it. Feelings &thoughts can change, music does not.
