The way he changed music with Eroica and later on the fifth, sixth and ninth symphony is almost the same to the way the Beatles changed music with Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's. There's no comparison between them since Beethoven is the very top of music but certain creative and innovative lines can be drawn between them.

What if I said I don't personally derive enjoyment from The Beatles, but I acknowledge and respect them for the impact that they have on rock music? I agree that, without The Beatles, most of our favourite rock bands probably won't even exist. In short, they aren't my personal musical preference - but I do recognize how influential they are.

I really am grateful to the Beatles just like I'm grateful to Elvis and Led Zeppelin for taking music in a better direction. And I do like SOME of their songs, but all in all they seem very poppy to me.
It's like the evolution of the phone. Yeah it was amazing that the telephone was invented but you don't see people frothing at the mouth over how great Alexander Graham Bell is.
I especially dislike Paul McCartney. I find his musical tastes to be drivel.

I used to really like the Beatles, but now they bore me.
I think a few songs of theirs are really beautiful though.
Sometimes it just bothers me how people seem to think they invented music, but really a lot of other bands around them were doing the same things, they were just the popular band who was doing it so everyone thinks they were the pioneers, and that kinda bugs me.

@tripthelightfilm except without the popularity the Beatles achieved, it is very likely Rock music would have soon made its way out the spotlight, and never would have become what it is today. Beat music was "on its way out" before the Beatles came on the scene, and not even the success of other bands (like the Stones) would have been large enough to pique the world's interest at that point.

I really dislike the Beatles, but not in any way does it have to do with the majority opinion of them. I do actually like two of their songs, but I just find all the rest disinteresting. @shadowgeyser In terms of innovation and creativity, the Beatles are pop/rock music's equivalent to Beethoven. The way he changed music with Eroica and later on the fifth, sixth and ninth symphony is almost the same to the way the Beatles changed music with Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's. There's no comparison between them since Beethoven is the very top of music but certain creative and innovative lines can be drawn between them.

To think songs like In my life, Eleanor Rigby, A day in the life, the entire Beatles catalogue after Rubber Soul is overrated is plainly stupid and is an indication of your musical knowledge. I can't think of one band who has managed to achieve so much in just 7 years and thus completely change the music world. Just think of Love me do vs. Tomorrow never knows (just 3 years to completely shift the entire music paradigm).
