Looking forward to seeing Midori in Kansas City on 10/27/11. I saw her in Baltimore and New Orleans and she is absolutely amazing!!!

Her posture is modern it's better for her back than old standing to attention style.

Midori is 1 of the best violinist at present... Her posture is very great. I don't know how a few people below are saying it's bad. Don't want to say but they don't know how to play violin very well...

@wfumie It's just that compared to, say, Oistrakh, her playing is a bit blah. Anne-Sophie Mutter is fiery, Kyun Wha Chung is spicy, Oistrakh's rich, Joshua Bell is trying to exude "I'm a cool and handsome guy" mien... but it's hard to visualise what Midori's trying to project when she's playing.

Anyone with enough practice can play the melody with finesse. Projecting something so the audience smells a fragrance, sees a painting, or feels the temperature, is something completely different.

@GabrielleduVent Oh no I don't think so. I don't think her playing is a bit blah compared to Oistrakh. Oistrakh's playing as great as Midori's. And what you're talking about is just up to YOUR OWN TASTE and SENSE of music. Rich, spicy, and fiery? You know what I mean? I understood that just her playing is not your favorite; that's it. It's not the matter of playing skills or techniques or something like that. Up to listner's preference. But thanks for your comment.

@wfumie Actually, it isn't my opinion; it was a common vote at the conservatory I used to take lessons at. I haven't listened to her performance enough to give any personal opinion, to be honest.

I personally don't do favourites; I tend to listen to all in equal weight when I'm practising. People have different strengths and different weaknesses, and my goal is not to do any of the weaknesses.

Anyway, you're right; I should listen to her and other violinists' performance enough again to give my fair and square opinion. I mean music is outside of judging at all.
