In the programme notes for the new West End stage adaptation of The Ladykillers, Graham Linehan says something similar - but I wrote (most of) my spoof of The Ladykillers before I saw the stage version.

@Schnorbs Ah. I knew it was a reference to something - and I've seen Resevoir Dogs, but didn't think to connect them. I like the comparison though.
The stage adaptation is one of the best things I've seen and I loved it to bits.

@11past3 The "swearing obscured by noise" is directly from the stage version (although the train noise rather than one of Mrs W's parrots).
I think there was a "that's a big one" type of moment in the play when the excellent Clive Rowe first appeared as One Round with his cello.
