Humility and Diplomacy. It helps in negotiating with potentially hostile parties. Opens them up, makes the listen. But I guess some Americans are eager to go to war...
Its called respect!! A courteous gesture to think they gave us a lot of things that we have in the US from Cars, Spareparts and Electronics and allowing us to maintain the bases in Okinawa and other parts! What do we give them? Toxic waste and rape cases and yeah US beef that most of them protested not to land on their markets! Just be respectful so others will respect us!
Don't be ignorant =D. Open your eyes and see that the US of A still has the number 1 economy in the world. The economic downturn affects everyone and it is still way better here in the US than most places in the world. The fact that you think Saudi and Japan aid the US financially is downright comical. Go back to the pit where you come from and continue listening to your country's propaganda about the US.
halcyon083, I know of no other US president who has bowed to royalty...aside from Obama. Please name these other US presidents who you claim performed this disgraceful act.
Since it's so good in Saudi Arabia, why do you live in the US?
yahya, I don't know where you came from, but this is a forum for the expression of ideas. We are free to speak our minds in the USA, so how dare you tell anybody to "shat their nagitive mouth". Censorship is what they do in Saudi Arabia....not here. So, when you state, "learn a little about a little of the things that goes one around them, then talk.", you should practice exactly what you preach.
For Christians only North Korea is worse. I've read "Saudi-Arabien: Die Tyrannei der tausend Prinzen (Vom Leben in der Rechtlosigkeit)" by Sami Alrabaa, not available in English as far as I know, about the lack of justice in Saudi arabia: absolute horror unless you belong to the ruling classes.
"BTW, King Abdullah has been a very progressive King"
Hah! Abdullah is a fundamentalist Wahhabist to his core. His government still prevents women from driving or going outside without the permission of a relative, prevents any non-Muslim house of worship to be built in the entire country, maintains a 'thought police' that can have you arrested for any number of things, outlaws all non-Muslim religious activity, and funds radicalization across the globe. That is very far from progressive.
I see this as just another layer of scum on the garbage pile that is Obama's presidency. He already broke his promise of fiscal responsibility and earmark reform by pushing us deeper into deficit (his plans will put us into several trillion dollars in deficit) and not doing a thing about earmarks. He even supported the Omnibus bill that contained over 8000 earmarks. Obama also blew it when he continued to support Geithner even after he was revealed to be a tax cheat.
Oh and let's not forget how he rushed the stimulus package which contained that amendment that protects the AIG bonuses and then acted surprised when those executives finally got them even though the contract involving the bonuses was created last year and his own stimulus package protects the contract. Obama showing a greater sign of respect to the Saudi king is just another foot further down the hill.
Yeah. Cue the Obama haters as they try to make a big deal out of this. Bow? hell, Bush used to kiss em. Countless videos of that. Where were the haters then? LOL!!!
Just for the record, Saudi Arabia is going to lift the ban on women drivers. 1) In my country Scientology is considered a sect, the USA exempts them from taxes. 2) Women couldn't vote in the USA until 1920, they didn't get equal pay until 1934, ... And that's only the legal system, I don't even want to look in the mind of our regular chauvinistic CEO or Hillbilly. 3) Did you see Bill O'Reilly jump when Spain announced they want to investigate some heads of Bush' administration?
actuually the king deserves a bow becouse know body can kick him out of his place

I know right? Your debt is appalling and you've sold your economy to the Chinese. Fair play!

With all due respect surely you would do a bigger bow to the monarch of your mother country than to a monarch of a country of oil refineries
