and guys she's not just bouncing on his back with a straight back. its normal dressage stuff. she is either posting or doing a sitting trot. both i am good at doing.
you guys are just jealous she can ride dressage better than you. personally i would kill to be like anky and i would kill to have a horse as talented at Salinero!
The only reason Anky is viewed as one of the best riders in the world is because of her use of hyperflexion. She would not have won anything without it. It's like the use of steriods in professional athletes. There are short term benefits, but long term use is detrimental and unethical. The day she trains her horses using kind, classical techniques is the day I will respect her as a rider.
How is this the "world's greatest dressage rider?" Good gahwed, she can't even sit the trot worth a damn and she has to have a death grip on the horse's head because she has no idea how to actually get it to collect. -.-
@Jigsaw1314 whoa... Anky has shown and won all over the world - she is a world champion rider - She trains horses all over the world - i can't say enough good about her. she is bouncing a bit, but she is concentrating on riding AND instructing at the same time - but there are down sides, such as her rollkur method she sometimes uses inher training...
Salinero is so pretty - shame about the crappy* riding skills of anky. Seriously, rolkur is bad enough, and then theres fact i can barely distinguish between her sitting and her posting...powerful horse or not, dressage is supposed to be a partnership, right, and you shouldn't be able to see the cues =[
Natural beauty is revealed with time taken, feel and love. To honour the beautiful horse and horsemen who use kind hands please sign the petition on website: wu-wei-verlag and clicking on: Officials! Stop Hyperflexion! Riding these magnificent animals can be wonderful but there are sadly some that abuse the generosity of these animals with the use of a quick fix hidden from the untrained eye. Sign and study the tragic physiological effect of Roll-kur. BHS supports petition.
@jamaicajumper16 I agree! It's a real shame! I really hope she realizes that the use of hyperflexion is extremely cruel and the use of it, is for example in countries like England, is prohibited. Oh just so you know, Salinero's a Hanoverian :) I love Holstiens too!! Very nice movement and lovely temperament. I have a 16.3hh Hanoverian gelding that we're training :) xx
why would I want to WASTE my precious time looking up such a MORON as "jacko"? [don't bother replying] who obviously got half the moniker right when she/he/it joined YouTube. They just forgot - or couldn't spell the "Ass" part of the name. ;-)
not its/his/her fault, education standards for "mentally challenged" people are terrible in Australia. Perhaps her false idol, avg, could help them out, & buy them an education?
Ey? i wasn't being nasty too you, i said lol as a chilled Laughing out load thing not to be hateful! He can be a jerk! But i suppose he will find out himself how to grow up into an adult!! I did not mean any harmx
For the persons which do not understand dutch I can realize why you say the piaffe was not good, but I am dutch and I will translate what she said about the piaffe: "I do not know or it will work out because I did not practised this at home".
Anky is a good rider, better than many and also for her horses but, she have to earn her money as well. Sometimes you go to far in trainings., every person will do this in its life!! So do not jugde her on this, it is normal, not good maybe, but normal.
look at her.. she cant even sit in the trot and passage and why? because poor Salinero's is so tight and strained... and second why? because of her fucking methods..
BonVuaz - Oh shut up! After watching you and your pathetic piaffe thats hardley a piaffe and that stupid levard you are hardley in a place to criticize. Anky bounces becuase salinero is powerful unlike that one of yours! Learn some more before criticizing something you dont wish to understand.
As to the last comment, at this level of dressage, horses are literally gymnasts, the strength in their necks & hdqtrs makes it possible to perform the piaffe & other high level movements. You can pull on a snaffle or a double bridle all day long, but will have no impulsion or forwardness to even perform these moves. It looks like she is pulling, however, the horse's neck is actually supple and relaxed and he is just "on" the bit.( not above or below) but on the bit. Watch C.Cameron ride. West.
carolannlocks - Dont listen to idiots like CrazyDolls - She is someone who is completly lost and has no idea of what real dressage is about. She hates Anky and competition dressage simply because she is jelous. If her training methods and her horses were so good then shed be right up there with anky winning the olympics. But shes not. Sad i know.
I cant even imagine what sort of parents have impacted your growing, jaccko. You seem to think that everyone disagreeing with anky are jealous? or that because they dont compete with same level as she does, they dont know shit what they´re talking about? You really think rollkür is ONLY used among pros? WRONG. How would you feel if everytime you disagree with someone they´d simply smile at you saying "poor you, jealous?" Seriously, imagine such! Everytime getting answer "you´re just jealous"
god jackko, I know you're only 15, but grow up. Why on earth would I be jealous of this? Can you look beyond that pathetic POV and figure out why I actually don't like Anky'd methods? I'm lost? Did you not look at the photos or did you choose not to because you were afraid you might be proven wrong? I don't want to be "up there" with anky, even if my 3 year old could do all this (which, of course, he can't). Grow up, and find someone else to bash, before everyone think's you're utterly deluded
he is often behind the bit, and not all that often on it. It's not that hard to distinguish, especially with a lot of these top horses. And if she wasn't pulling (which it does look like she is) then would there not appear to be more give in her reins when she rides (whenever she rides?). But there is always a lot of pressure and pulling with Anky, and many of europes riders. The curb would not be at such an angle if she was not pulling-gravity doesn't do that for her.
No, you idiot. I will not stop saying such things because i think its soo discusting for an adult like you to be such a rude ignorant loser. There is nothing in this video but the most amazing dressage rider on this earth, she is bouncing, so what, get over it ! You might be able to sit the trot and do a good halt but you cant win the olympics. You fool. She is bouncing cos there is a huge engine under her, not because he is tense. Comment where someone cares
hahaha im not the one who is saying im a realllyyy good dressage rider and my horse got really good comments by really top people which you cant prove and then telling people Anky is a shit trainer and rider. You keep on wanking.
Anky horse, Salinero is reaching for the bit because the energy is coming from his hqtr's and flowing to the front making Anky's reins completely light. She is NOT pulling or abusing his neck or head. When dressage is done correctly, the horse automat'y will lower his head and reach for the bit when the energy from back to front is correctly being manuevered. A fake arch of the neck & head is one that the horse is all on his forehand-which is NOT dressage at all!
Salinero is light in the reins??? ah hahahahahahah...wtf are you blind. You can pull almost any photo of him with her on his back off google and there is A LOT of weight in her reins...they are certainly not completely light. are anky supporters blind by choice, much like men have selective hearing?
Jaccko14, as usual you are retarded . When are you going to be tired to kiss ass to these big dressage riders ???? they suck .... dressage which should be harmony as now become just war between horse and rider and the horses are injured all over the world trying to copy the Anky of the world. Anky is a menace to all horses - PERIOD
egasserd8888 - Im retarded hey thats very mature of you. haha Anky and Isabel have captured the world with their dressage and they have made it more popular than it has ever been before. Her methods work, shes always in harmony with her horses, shes rides her horses their, she doesnt pull and her horses tongues are not blue. they do not have spur marks all over them. You need to learn some more before you critisize so much. its sad on YOUR half.
Egasserd8888, i warn you, you will have a loooooot of such fun with this jacco-monkey if you continuexD, it's absolutely like thisxD....beleive me....
ill admit that Salanero is one hell of a horse, and she does know how to ride him. i just dont agree with her training methods. i dont think its necessary that a horse should have to shove their nose into their chests like that. its nothing short of mental, emotional, and physical duress, and is unnecessary. it doesnt produce relaxation, which is like, the ultimate goal of dressage.
but you are not tripple olymoic games winner... she is "professional" IF someone must be able to sit the trot then it must be her... 2nd: she cant even make salinero halt... saaaad...
virgipirgi - Are you that stupid? Salinero doesnt halt because thats what horse he is by nature. Hes hot, tense, full of energy. If she can go out and perform GP movements and capture the dressage world halting hardley even matters. Youre saying its sad that she cant get him to halt, but youre the sad one, judgemental idiot.
Anky is not the 'best rider in the world', she does win alot, but quite a few riders are right up there with her. She is very good - there is a very, very small group 'at the top' and it's an honor to be up there, it takes much hard work. But this nonsense of screaming and swearing at those who don't agree 'Anky is the best' on the internet bb's is childish! Anky would be disgusted if she heard this. She very well knows that on any given day Isabell or a dozen others could beat her.
Riders bounce on these horses because their gaits are huge. They work for years to increase the freedom and power of the gaits. You have never sat on anything like this and it is not like sitting any other type of horse. It is like riding a comet.
She does not have 'her own private orchestra', LOL. That's silly. She has worked with various different freestyle designers over the years and they with various composers and musicians.
Pirouette - Honestly women you dont know everything and you obviously dont know what youre talking about. I have Ankys Music DVD and YES SHE DOES HAVE A ORCHESTRA that plays live for her and that composers her music. Victor and Cees did all her freestyles exept her new one. So dear, get your facts right for once. You honestly appear to argue with yourself.
well, there have been studies that have shown that even though there is no proof that rolkur actually physically impairs a horse IF its practiced properly, there has been proof that rolkur can be very mentally stressull and uncomfortable to the horse! Dont get me wrong!, I still respect anky very much and i think shes like the est rider in the world, bu im just showing my personal opinion..i dnt much fancy rolkur..
ever watched "if horses could speak"? Or read a anatomy book? Then you should know its physical and mental abuse. And Anky is not the only one riding tense and stressed horses. Dressage is dominated by egocentricals that can't feel nor see whats going on under there butts.
I'm going to be the first to admit that i am not anywhere near as good as Anky and never will be
bouncing on the horses back is OK because she has a straight back and perfect hands and legs? how is the horse meant to be supple when she isn't supple herself? let your body move with the horse, feel the movement!
yes it is harder to sit to a horse that is powerful but if she is as good as you make her out to be that shouldn't be a problem should it?
Loraleypike - Anky is very supple in the seat. The bounce is no problem because she keeps a straight back, good legs, good hands. When she bounces its not like shes coming down on him like a tone of bricks, she is very light and sits very soft in the saddle.
What!? how can you even begin to think of giving advice...this is Anky van Grunsven (like the best rider in the world) no offence but you really have no room to critisize...in dressage you tell the horse what to do with your seat sometines so thats what it was.
resilliance93 - so many people give shit to Anky about how much she bounces, but really, its not a problem because she keeps a straight back and perfect legs and hands the whole ride. Bounce is bound to happen, since you're sitting one of the most powerfulest animals in the world. In my opinion, as long as you keep a good position, the bounce really isnt a problem. People need to shut up!
why dont you read the very astute comment left by wexcel quoting Anky. Dressage is so special b/c of the team effort of communication btwn horse and rider
why dont you read the very astute comment left by wexcel quoting Anky. Dressage is so special b/c of the team effort of communication btwn horse and rider
"seeing mistakes being made is the easiest thing there is...the art of dressage is to make it look simple, but the art of the sport is not as simple as it seems, and I am human after all'
"I think that the debate was initiated based on views of a few German and Dutch journalists. Jumping horses are ridden in a similar outline every time they are being warmed up, and no-one has reacted. Why would it hurt dressage horses but not jumpers? The welfare of my horses is one more than important to me" Emphasizes Anky.
i like it when Anky Opens her hands at 5:31 to let Sailinero have more room in the mouth and then corrects the position of the bit soon after. When the hands are close together there is less room to menouvure the bit, which is needed in collection work (but you can't do that when the Horse is Tense in the mouth!)
The first passage is a careful at the begining and then after the first extended Trot into Passage is just Brilliant and he was only 8 years old! Anky uses millions of transitions in her riding and it certainly shows in her performances!!!!!!
we have to remember that alot of the natural horsemanship today is traditional stuff, but it is marked as natural. it has been like that for years, just different trainers
It is not at all uncommon to school these horses in snaffle bridle at home - 99% of the top riders do the majority of schooling in the snaffle bridle. It has been this way for many years.
You need to get your facts a little straighter, LOL. Anky does use half halts very often, and this can be seen as she rides, and Anky does ride inside to outside, but she does not believe in exaggerating it to the point the horse is crooked.
Piroette - Sorry but not true. Yes Anky does believe in half halts as i have heard her say it. But she does NOT ride the heavy outside rein and loose inside rein. She rides both reins on an even contact like it SHOULD be done.
Jaccko - i heard say this at the Dressage Global Forum in 2006 "why use half halts, when you can just hold with both reins"! This was when Anky was 6 months pregnant with Eva and she was riding Painted Black. I went with my Trainer and she also agreed!
Fallding - Umm well she must have meant something different. The DVD of hers called 'her winning formula' You hear her and sjef both say half halt half halt quite a few times...
i know! i have that video ( iahd the video one instead of DVD) but i can't remember much of it because one of sisters have it! and haven't given it back this was over 4 years ago. Anyway as much as i remember it was better than the new dvd anky has out with the kur of cee slings! end of the day you do need to half halt to tell the horse something is coming! like a Transition trot to canter.
I'm just going to go a little further... she's using the double bridle for the obvious 2 bits. She's explaining the reins as she rides. Most horses I know at this level are ridden with a double at clinics and schooling shows as well as shows. Thy are ridden in snaffle or pelhelm at home, in lesson or pleasure. The horse, in an arena with a crowd, needs to equate that to a show. It makes sense to me and I don't even use bits on most of my horses! Though I wouldn't let a novice ride in a double
Jhiben23 - I have a great deal of respect for you :) Youre a natural horseman but you are open to other things. I like that. Totally agree with your comment :)
jhiben23 - i also have great respest for you, natural horse people are understanding and know when a horse needs a different training method as every horse is an individual. What type of riding do you?
Also, take in mind that the horses today are taller and their stature may make their vertical appear sharper. I've seen this. I've studied Andalusians and Arabians in dressage and most, esp Andies have thiker shorter necks and square build. They are naturally curved and tucked shorter than Salinero. They would get greater scruiteny if that head and topline was on a leggier horse... it would look harsh. Sal looks rather comfortable to me. Please. Stop calling names to people you don't even know
completely though because she does use some of these new quick result tactics. But who are we to say they are wrong. i pride myself in being a natural horseperson, and I'm sure Anky's first objective is not to cause harm to her horses. I don't see this ride with Salinero as a harsh example of rollkur. It's moderate, and take into mind that this horse may have a thicker neck. Each horse and horse's ride are different no matter the training method.
I can't believe I sent so much time reading your blogs... First of all, don't be so mean to each other. None of you know Anky personally. I'm glad that she falls somewhere between modern and classical methods. She is not the cruelest trainer out there by far. She talks about her love of her horses all the time. She also has a low injury % rate. And I could go on and on about her form. She is balanced, and again, this is not the best ride because she's not showing. I'm not defending...
If Anky was a great rider/trainer, she would know not to use a double bridle when training. Finished work is what the double bridle is for. Never give up your contact for reward. The release of the aid is reward enough for the horse. Otherwise you loose connection with the horse. Anky has not very good balance. She is a good rider but not great enough to be in the olympics. She is good enough for beginners to learn from. She really stiffens her body when asking for transitions. Overall score a 5
Anky does ride her horses at Home in Snaffles! go on her website. Anky likes to play with her riding, doesn't mean she has to ride like she's riding in a test. i watched her masterclass at olympia and she was so funny! she said she loves talking when riding but sjef won't let her, so she enjoys doing clinics bcos she can talk and ride at the same time!
I do not agree that horses over 4th level are 'special' or 'difficult' because they are sensitive. Horses vary alot. You just can't make generalizations like that. I have one horse that from age 4 and just broke was always very easy and quiet and one who from 4-5 was always very hot and sensitive.
PS, it is really very silly to be so picky about every little thing during a demonstration ride...even during the Olympics the top judges of the world are less picky.
How do you know they are less picky? Here you loose marks for these things (and i am talking about dressage tests not demonstrations). Its very good to know that they would be more lenient than my local judges!!! although i am bit off that level yet - my horse is 4 years!! But it is very silly to call this demonstration 'perfect'
This horse is very affected by noises and environment and it is very normal for him to be afraid sometimes. The relaxing of the rein and the pat is to assure him, and to show him the rider is calm, so he does not need to worry.
Once dressage horses are over 4th level quality, they tend to be a little more 'special'. Whatever you call it, they are more difficult because they have to be really sensitive, and riden incorrectly, can be dangerous. Anky is a fabulous rider. And even though people may disagee about rolkur (I'm anti), a good rider must still be respected.
She's doesn't drops her reins, she gives him a pad. And sally is just a little tensed because of the environment. Also it's verry hard for anky to ride well, while she's talking.
From what i am seeing she does a half halt the horse is hot and tense, and then she loses one of her reins - or it is a very strange kind of pat (or pad as you say). I am not picking i just dont agree it is perfection and i totally agree it must be very difficult to talk and explain things whilst riding and i think she is a very talented rider (its her methods i am not sure of)
From what i seen Anky was doing a transition and salinero got tense.. as those type of horses do, she got him into a good transition, gave with her inside rein, gave him a pat and then took the rein again. What most people should do.
People forget that Salinero was only 7 yrs old then. doing a clinic and performing Grand Prix movements is tough.Remember 2 yrs after this clinic he went to win GOLD at the Olympics!
She's doesn't drops her reins, she gives him a pad. And sally is just a little tensed because of the environment. Also it's verry hard for anky to ride well, while she's talking.
What then, piaffe1, is the real meaning of dressage? I watch her ride up there and I see a well trained, responsive horse with a calm, well spoken rider/trainer.
It is good to watch somebody share their techniques with the world. If you watch her dressage tests and freestyles at say the WEG then you will see how relaxed her horse is...and the judges, of all people, would know what the true meaning of dressage is, and obviously she shows it..because she comes first in a hell of a lot.
couldnt have said it better! Like i tell people, if she was fake or pretending, she wouldnt have won everything there is to win! man i cant stand these people and they really do my head in!
Jaccko14 - Which Grand Prix horse have you trained and produced? You talk like you have been there and done it. I have a lot to learn but i would rather be a an uneducated modern dressage hater, than a supporter rollkur, anyday. Haha, if you believe that dressage is judged by what is seen in the ring - you obviously dont know that many people in the dressage world! HAHAHAHAHA! - Sorry i dont know you but that has really made my day!!
hey dont be so rude :) I have not trained or produced any GP horse. I have never heard of a 14 year old training a horse from nothing to GP.. just not enough time, seens it takes 10 years! You want to be an un-educated modern hater? why? why dont you learn about the good and bad of both sides, then make your opinion, because from what you have written, you have no clue on modern dressage and how its beneficial
Rude me? Av you read your responses! I have heard the good and the bad of Rollkur and i have decided to keep an open mind on the subject - it seems even the professionals are bewildered. A friend of mine trained with the pros down south before moving up here he left dressage judging because of all the unfairness (people winning because of who they are, who they train with or the even the horses bloodline) Just keep your eyes wide open, i have had mine opened recently!
welcome to the dressage world! Its like every sport, you get teams and people winning because of repuation, people winning cos of who theyre trained by or what tpye of horse they have... there is nothing you can do about it. If you know you did a great test and you know it, winning doesnt matter, as long as you have won in your own opinion. Every sport is the same
Yes, i agree with you! However, i am my biggest critic so have to learn how to handle dissapointment or get to know who the popular trainer is!! Also, my horse shy's at everything so getting him through a test is a victory in its self!!
At 1.36, the horse is anticipating canter tenses up, looses it rhythm fires forwards and Anky drops her reins. She stopped in the middle of the one time tempo changes, cos it went wrong? No signs of a mistake...hummm...i think not!
Everything else fab though! ;) Wow, i cant believe still cant get over this horses trot -its perfect! I think the horse is more talented than the rider though!! Sorry Jaccko14. And i know shes winning everything at the moment but i really dont get it!! :/
meljw - 1.36, the horse does not tense up nor loose the rythm. A part of Ankys training is to do many transitions from trot to walk, walk to trot e.c.t to get the horse "with" the rider and to make sure he is paying full attention. Now dont you think, if you had a horse in that ring, he would be a little tense too? its usually the best horses that have the most problems! If the horse was better than the rider she wouldnt be where she is today
She's doesn't drops her reins, she gives him a pad. And sally is just a little tensed because of the environment. Also it's verry hard for anky to ride well, while she's talking.
Still to Minga90ame. The 'pulling in' technique goes against any form of classical dressage so i am not sure which dressage you are referring to - showjumping dressage perhaps??
strong pulling on the reins? eh? there are no pulling on the reins, theyre called half halts and she gives and takes. You cannot just kick and use no contact on the rein, the horse must have a straight message that is clear, no by kicking 10 times and pulling 10 times. And thats a base in Ankys training
I know what half halts are and there purpose thankyou. The problem i have with rollkur is the damage you can potentially cause the horse if it is not capable of this, some Stallions usually are, but i think this training should not be promoted in any form as it is goes against any classical training method. A horse is a prey animal and to 'pull' its nose so low that it loses its vision in front, the ability to breath and potentially cause damage to the neck, is wrong.
Exactly, Hyperflexion goes against the classical rules, which is a good thing. Classical horses are always ridden in the 'up' frame, causing a stiff and tight back. youre wrong, these riders do not "pull" there nose down, they ask for it to come down. This really shows how little you know
Neither method is best for the horse. Combine the two. I usually warm my horse up deep and very round, the way he likes it, and he is very loose and supple, then I raise his frame, so that the pole is the highest point. Hyperflexion ruins horses, and Anky is certainly not the angel you so obvisously see, as she uses draw reins on a regular baises and on horses who do not particularily need them. However, she has a beautiful position and seat.
katelyn - Anky never uses draw reins, i have heard it straight out of her own mouth that she doesnt use them and doesnt like them. I also do what you do. I ride hyperflexion for warm up for about 10 minutes, doing a few suppling exercises. Then when i want the collected movement, i ask for the poll to raise and for the hind end to come under and swing. But as soon as he does that collected movement, he is rewarded by a loose rein and hyperflexion. Its simple
I agree with Marialli7, her methods include stong pulling on the reins, creating so much pressure the horse literally has to lock its jaw,at that point the head can be lowered to the point of which its mouth touches its chest (it is damaging to the horse both mentally and physically). She is obviously a talented rider but has a screw loose.
no, Anky always talks about how difficult it is for a rider with a hot horse to not pull the rein to much cuz its sending them two messages. You always looking for the "anky" horses for dressage, wiling to work, and a horse which you are telling; forward, forward you can not pull back with a rein all the time, no horse would understand those double messages. she has said only the good riders can understand that. And as piaff1 so nice put it; not many understand dressage.
Your right not many people do! Their is no evidence to prove that Rollkur has any benefit to the horse. It stresses the topline/poll, affects the horses breathing - so they wont run off? Are you being serious? Classically trained horses will accept the bit and bring their nose down because they want to as they trust the hands of their riders. Dressage should be about humans and horses working together in harmony, not humans forcing superiority over the other.
melw29 - there is no evidence to prove that hyperflexion has any benefit? HUUHURRM!! the first part of evidence, is that, THE MOST FAMOUS DRESSAGE HORSES IN THE WORLD GET HYPERFLEXED IN WARM UP. i could go on all day about evidence, but i dont think its worth waisting my time to prove anything to you, as you'd be to ignorant to accept the facts. Quite frankly, you wouldnt even know what evidence is if it hit you in the face.
Minga90ame knows what she is talking about, and she is 100% true. Minga, insnt it just funny how these people who critisize, dont like hyperflexion, simply because they have no clue or education about it. They hate anky because she is a winner, but why dont they hate isabel? shes also a winner and shes a hyperfler.. its rather sad on their behalf and they honestly have no clue about dressage and should stop riding now.
Why does she continue to fake out her public? Because most people do not have a clue how to ride, train and work with a horse. So Anky keeps her audience in bewildermant. Because 90 percent of the Dressage world only wishes they could achieve what Anky has. So being flabergasted in awe people flock to her for entertainment.
Anky does not fake anything to the public, everyone in the equine world knows that your training is judged by what is seen in the RING. If your horse goes well in the ring and does a good test at a good standard, that is when you know your training is correct and is working. Why would anky change her methods when they are the best and have evidently worked!
Toby4Tilly, I have to say I wish I could agree with you. Most of us wish we could do better and show it but it comes down to politics and money. Anky might of once had what it took but politics, money and cheating has her heading in another direction. Her riding and training techniques are atroshish. She has lost the true meaning of Dressage. Unfortunately instead of conceding and calling it quits, she continues to fabricate her rides and pull the covers over her publics eye.
and guys she's not just bouncing on his back with a straight back. its normal dressage stuff. she is either posting or doing a sitting trot. both i am good at doing.
HorseLoverGal100 5 months ago
you guys are just jealous she can ride dressage better than you. personally i would kill to be like anky and i would kill to have a horse as talented at Salinero!
Anky and Salinero Forever!
HorseLoverGal100 5 months ago
The only reason Anky is viewed as one of the best riders in the world is because of her use of hyperflexion. She would not have won anything without it. It's like the use of steriods in professional athletes. There are short term benefits, but long term use is detrimental and unethical. The day she trains her horses using kind, classical techniques is the day I will respect her as a rider.

Don't enjoy the piaff or the changements of hands. Idon't think the horse enjoys it. It's almost like it would hurt him....

How is this the "world's greatest dressage rider?" Good gahwed, she can't even sit the trot worth a damn and she has to have a death grip on the horse's head because she has no idea how to actually get it to collect. -.-
Jigsaw1314 1 year ago 3
@Jigsaw1314 whoa... Anky has shown and won all over the world - she is a world champion rider - She trains horses all over the world - i can't say enough good about her. she is bouncing a bit, but she is concentrating on riding AND instructing at the same time - but there are down sides, such as her rollkur method she sometimes uses inher training...
jumperlover100 1 year ago
Salinero is so pretty - shame about the crappy* riding skills of anky. Seriously, rolkur is bad enough, and then theres fact i can barely distinguish between her sitting and her posting...powerful horse or not, dressage is supposed to be a partnership, right, and you shouldn't be able to see the cues =[

Oh just so you know, Salinero's a Hanoverian :) I love Holstiens too!! Very nice movement and lovely temperament. I have a 16.3hh Hanoverian gelding that we're training :) xx

West.
carolannlocks 2 years ago 2
carolannlocks - Dont listen to idiots like CrazyDolls - She is someone who is completly lost and has no idea of what real dressage is about. She hates Anky and competition dressage simply because she is jelous. If her training methods and her horses were so good then shed be right up there with anky winning the olympics. But shes not. Sad i know.
Jaccko14 2 years ago
I cant even imagine what sort of parents have impacted your growing, jaccko. You seem to think that everyone disagreeing with anky are jealous? or that because they dont compete with same level as she does, they dont know shit what they´re talking about? You really think rollkür is ONLY used among pros? WRONG. How would you feel if everytime you disagree with someone they´d simply smile at you saying "poor you, jealous?" Seriously, imagine such! Everytime getting answer "you´re just jealous"
Jefrma 2 years ago
god jackko, I know you're only 15, but grow up. Grow up, and find someone else to bash, before everyone think's you're utterly deluded
thecrazydolls 2 years ago 6
he is often behind the bit, and not all that often on it. It's not that hard to distinguish, especially with a lot of these top horses. And if she wasn't pulling (which it does look like she is) then would there not appear to be more give in her reins when she rides (whenever she rides?). But there is always a lot of pressure and pulling with Anky, and many of europes riders. The curb would not be at such an angle if she was not pulling-gravity doesn't do that for her.
thecrazydolls 2 years ago

Jaccko14 2 years ago
Anky horse, Salinero is reaching for the bit because the energy is coming from his hqtr's and flowing to the front making Anky's reins completely light. She is NOT pulling or abusing his neck or head. When dressage is done correctly, the horse automat'y will lower his head and reach for the bit when the energy from back to front is correctly being manuevered. A fake arch of the neck & head is one that the horse is all on his forehand-which is NOT dressage at all!
carolannlocks 3 years ago
Salinero is light in the reins??? ah hahahahahahah...wtf are you blind. You can pull almost any photo of him with her on his back off google and there is A LOT of weight in her reins...they are certainly not completely light. are anky supporters blind by choice, much like men have selective hearing?
thecrazydolls 2 years ago
Jaccko14, as usual you are retarded . When are you going to be tired to kiss ass to these big dressage riders ???? they suck .... dressage which should be harmony as now become just war between horse and rider and the horses are injured all over the world trying to copy the Anky of the world. Anky is a menace to all horses - PERIOD
egasserd8888 3 years ago 2
egasserd8888 - Im retarded hey thats very mature of you. haha Anky and Isabel have captured the world with their dressage and they have made it more popular than it has ever been before. You need to learn some more before you critisize so much. its sad on YOUR half.

ill admit that Salanero is one hell of a horse, and she does know how to ride him. i just dont agree with her training methods. i dont think its necessary that a horse should have to shove their nose into their chests like that. its nothing short of mental, emotional, and physical duress, and is unnecessary. it doesnt produce relaxation, which is like, the ultimate goal of dressage.

She very well knows that on any given day Isabell or a dozen others could beat her.
pirouette987 3 years ago
Riders bounce on these horses because their gaits are huge. They work for years to increase the freedom and power of the gaits. You have never sat on anything like this and it is not like sitting any other type of horse. It is like riding a comet.
pirouette987 3 years ago
She does not have 'her own private orchestra', LOL. That's silly. She has worked with various different freestyle designers over the years and they with various composers and musicians.
pirouette987 3 years ago
Pirouette - Honestly women you dont know everything and you obviously dont know what youre talking about. I have Ankys Music DVD and YES SHE DOES HAVE A ORCHESTRA that plays live for her and that composers her music. Victor and Cees did all her freestyles exept her new one. So dear, get your facts right for once. You honestly appear to argue with yourself.
Jaccko14 3 years ago
actually, anky is the best rider in the world, score wise and results wise (after all, 2x olympic champion!!) but rolkur is kinda abuse...
dressage1xx 3 years ago
do u have proof its abuse!?
LiveLaughRide07 3 years ago
well, there have been studies that have shown that even though there is no proof that rolkur actually physically impairs a horse IF its practiced properly, there has been proof that rolkur can be very mentally stressull and uncomfortable to the horse! Dont get me wrong!, I still respect anky very much and i think shes like the est rider in the world, bu im just showing my personal opinion..i dnt much fancy rolkur..
dressage1xx 3 years ago
ever watched "if horses could speak"? Or read a anatomy book? Then you should know its physical and mental abuse. And Anky is not the only one riding tense and stressed horses. Dressage is dominated by egocentricals that can't feel nor see whats going on under there butts.

I'm going to be the first to admit that i am not anywhere near as good as Anky and never will be
bouncing on the horses back is OK because she has a straight back and perfect hands and legs? how is the horse meant to be supple when she isn't supple herself? let your body move with the horse, feel the movement!
yes it is harder to sit to a horse that is powerful but if she is as good as you make her out to be that shouldn't be a problem should it?
loraleypike 3 years ago 10
Loraleypike - Anky is very supple in the seat. The bounce is no problem because she keeps a straight back, good legs, good hands. When she bounces its not like shes coming down on him like a tone of bricks, she is very light and sits very soft in the saddle.
Jaccko14 3 years ago
but it doesnt look good!! she doesnt look good when she flops around idk how shes the best in the world!
joekid223312 3 years ago
can u sit a little bit better when ur sitting the canter?!?
joekid223312 3 years ago
What!? how can you even begin to think of giving advice...this is Anky van Grunsven (like the best rider in the world) no offence but you really have no room to critisize...in dressage you tell the horse what to do with your seat sometines so thats what it was.
Resiliance93 3 years ago
resilliance93 - so many people give shit to Anky about how much she bounces, but really, its not a problem because she keeps a straight back and perfect legs and hands the whole ride. Bounce is bound to happen, since you're sitting one of the most powerfulest animals in the world. In my opinion, as long as you keep a good position, the bounce really isnt a problem. People need to shut up!

Jaccko14 3 years ago
i like it when Anky Opens her hands at 5:31 to let Sailinero have more room in the mouth and then corrects the position of the bit soon after. When the hands are close together there is less room to menouvure the bit, which is needed in collection work (but you can't do that when the Horse is Tense in the mouth!)

this rider is awsome
kyosinmyheart 3 years ago
It is not at all uncommon to school these horses in snaffle bridle at home - 99% of the top riders do the majority of schooling in the snaffle bridle. It has been this way for many years.
pirouette987 4 years ago
You need to get your facts a little straighter, LOL. Anky does use half halts very often, and this can be seen as she rides, and Anky does ride inside to outside, but she does not believe in exaggerating it to the point the horse is crooked.
pirouette987 4 years ago
Piroette - Sorry but not true. Yes Anky does believe in half halts as i have heard her say it. But she does NOT ride the heavy outside rein and loose inside rein. She rides both reins on an even contact like it SHOULD be done.
Jaccko14 3 years ago
Jaccko - i heard say this at the Dressage Global Forum in 2006 "why use half halts, when you can just hold with both reins"! This was when Anky was 6 months pregnant with Eva and she was riding Painted Black. I went with my Trainer and she also agreed!
fallding123 3 years ago
Fallding - Umm well she must have meant something different. The DVD of hers called 'her winning formula' You hear her and sjef both say half halt half halt quite a few times...
Jaccko14 3 years ago
i know! i have that video ( iahd the video one instead of DVD) but i can't remember much of it because one of sisters have it! and haven't given it back this was over 4 years ago. Anyway as much as i remember it was better than the new dvd anky has out with the kur of cee slings! end of the day you do need to half halt to tell the horse something is coming! like a Transition trot to canter.
fallding123 3 years ago
Yeh. Half halts are good, i mean you dont have to use it just with one rein you can do it with both reins at the same time. :)

laures187 4 years ago
I'm just going to go a little further... she's using the double bridle for the obvious 2 bits. She's explaining the reins as she rides. Most horses I know at this level are ridden with a double at clinics and schooling shows as well as shows. Thy are ridden in snaffle or pelhelm at home, in lesson or pleasure. The horse, in an arena with a crowd, needs to equate that to a show. It makes sense to me and I don't even use bits on most of my horses! Though I wouldn't let a novice ride in a double
jhiben23 4 years ago
Jhiben23 - I have a great deal of respect for you :) Youre a natural horseman but you are open to other things. I like that. Totally agree with your comment :)
Jaccko14 4 years ago
jhiben23 - i also have great respest for you, natural horse people are understanding and know when a horse needs a different training method as every horse is an individual. What type of riding do you?
fallding123 4 years ago
I think all Anky lovers like you! I like that!
knhorsegirl 4 years ago
Also, take in mind that the horses today are taller and their stature may make their vertical appear sharper. I've seen this. I've studied Andalusians and Arabians in dressage and most, esp Andies have thiker shorter necks and square build. They are naturally curved and tucked shorter than Salinero. They would get greater scruiteny if that head and topline was on a leggier horse... it would look harsh. Sal looks rather comfortable to me. Please. Stop calling names to people you don't even know
jhiben23 4 years ago
completely though because she does use some of these new quick result tactics. Each horse and horse's ride are different no matter the training method.
jhiben23 4 years ago
I can't believe I sent so much time reading your blogs... First of all, don't be so mean to each other. None of you know Anky personally. I'm glad that she falls somewhere between modern and classical methods. She is not the cruelest trainer out there by far. She talks about her love of her horses all the time. She also has a low injury % rate. And I could go on and on about her form. She is balanced, and again, this is not the best ride because she's not showing. I'm not defending...
jhiben23 4 years ago
If Anky was a great rider/trainer, she would know not to use a double bridle when training. Finished work is what the double bridle is for. Never give up your contact for reward. The release of the aid is reward enough for the horse. Otherwise you loose connection with the horse. Anky has not very good balance. She is a good rider but not great enough to be in the olympics. She is good enough for beginners to learn from. She really stiffens her body when asking for transitions. Overall score a 5
piaffe1 4 years ago
Anky does ride her horses at Home in Snaffles! go on her website. Anky likes to play with her riding, doesn't mean she has to ride like she's riding in a test. i watched her masterclass at olympia and she was so funny! she said she loves talking when riding but sjef won't let her, so she enjoys doing clinics bcos she can talk and ride at the same time!
fallding123 4 years ago
I do not agree that horses over 4th level are 'special' or 'difficult' because they are sensitive. Horses vary alot. You just can't make generalizations like that. I have one horse that from age 4 and just broke was always very easy and quiet and one who from 4-5 was always very hot and sensitive.
pirouette987 4 years ago
PS, it is really very silly to be so picky about every little thing during a demonstration ride...even during the Olympics the top judges of the world are less picky.
pirouette987 4 years ago
How do you know they are less picky? Here you loose marks for these things (and i am talking about dressage tests not demonstrations). Its very good to know that they would be more lenient than my local judges!!! although i am bit off that level yet - my horse is 4 years!! But it is very silly to call this demonstration 'perfect'
meljw29 4 years ago
This horse is very affected by noises and environment and it is very normal for him to be afraid sometimes. The relaxing of the rein and the pat is to assure him, and to show him the rider is calm, so he does not need to worry.
pirouette987 4 years ago
Once dressage horses are over 4th level quality, they tend to be a little more 'special'. Whatever you call it, they are more difficult because they have to be really sensitive, and riden incorrectly, can be dangerous. Anky is a fabulous rider. And even though people may disagee about rolkur (I'm anti), a good rider must still be respected.
AnnaApplesauce 4 years ago
She's doesn't drops her reins, she gives him a pad. And sally is just a little tensed because of the environment. Also it's verry hard for anky to ride well, while she's talking.
19plien82 4 years ago
From what i am seeing she does a half halt the horse is hot and tense, and then she loses one of her reins - or it is a very strange kind of pat (or pad as you say). I am not picking i just dont agree it is perfection and i totally agree it must be very difficult to talk and explain things whilst riding and i think she is a very talented rider (its her methods i am not sure of)

From what i seen Anky was doing a transition and salinero got tense.. as those type of horses do, she got him into a good transition, gave with her inside rein, gave him a pat and then took the rein again. What most people should do.
Jaccko14 4 years ago
He's not that confident in disorganized situations.
knhorsegirl 4 years ago
People forget that Salinero was only 7 yrs old then. doing a clinic and performing Grand Prix movements is tough.Remember 2 yrs after this clinic he went to win GOLD at the Olympics!
fallding123 4 years ago
Anky does not beleive in half halts and also doesn't believe in outside hand inside leg methods either and i totally agree!
fallding123 4 years ago

Toby4Tilly 4 years ago
Like Bonfire! Not a sign or a smidge of mistake or non-relaxation!
knhorsegirl 4 years ago
couldnt have said it better! Like i tell people, if she was fake or pretending, she wouldnt have won everything there is to win! man i cant stand these people and they really do my head in!
Jaccko14 4 years ago
Jaccko14 - Which Grand Prix horse have you trained and produced? You talk like you have been there and done it. I have a lot to learn but i would rather be a an uneducated modern dressage hater, than a supporter rollkur, anyday. Haha, if you believe that dressage is judged by what is seen in the ring - you obviously dont know that many people in the dressage world! HAHAHAHAHA! - Sorry i dont know you but that has really made my day!!
meljw29 4 years ago
hey dont be so rude :) I have not trained or produced any GP horse.
Jaccko14 4 years ago
Rude me? Av you read your responses! I have heard the good and the bad of Rollkur and i have decided to keep an open mind on the subject - it seems even the professionals are bewildered. A friend of mine trained with the pros down south before moving up here he left dressage judging because of all the unfairness (people winning because of who they are, who they train with or the even the horses bloodline) Just keep your eyes wide open, i have had mine opened recently!
meljw29 4 years ago
welcome to the dressage world! Its like every sport, you get teams and people winning because of repuation, people winning cos of who theyre trained by or what tpye of horse they have... there is nothing you can do about it. If you know you did a great test and you know it, winning doesnt matter, as long as you have won in your own opinion. Every sport is the same
Jaccko14 4 years ago
Yes, i agree with you! However, i am my biggest critic so have to learn how to handle dissapointment or get to know who the popular trainer is!! Also, my horse shy's at everything so getting him through a test is a victory in its self!!
meljw29 4 years ago
LOL. horses who shy can be very fun! its awesome to get a horse from such problems and turn him into something amazing.
Jaccko14 4 years ago
exactly.

meljw29 4 years ago
meljw - 1.36, the horse does not tense up nor loose the rythm.

Still to Minga90ame. The 'pulling in' technique goes against any form of classical dressage so i am not sure which dressage you are referring to - showjumping dressage perhaps??
meljw29 4 years ago
strong pulling on the reins? eh? there are no pulling on the reins, theyre called half halts and she gives and takes. You cannot just kick and use no contact on the rein, the horse must have a straight message that is clear, no by kicking 10 times and pulling 10 times. And thats a base in Ankys training
Jaccko14 4 years ago
I know what half halts are and there purpose thankyou. The problem i have with rollkur is the damage you can potentially cause the horse if it is not capable of this, some Stallions usually are, but i think this training should not be promoted in any form as it is goes against any classical training method. A horse is a prey animal and to 'pull' its nose so low that it loses its vision in front, the ability to breath and potentially cause damage to the neck, is wrong.
meljw29 4 years ago
Exactly, Hyperflexion goes against the classical rules, which is a good thing. Classical horses are always ridden in the 'up' frame, causing a stiff and tight back. youre wrong, these riders do not "pull" there nose down, they ask for it to come down. This really shows how little you know
Jaccko14 4 years ago
Neither method is best for the horse. Combine the two. I usually warm my horse up deep and very round, the way he likes it, and he is very loose and supple, then I raise his frame, so that the pole is the highest point. Hyperflexion ruins horses, and Anky is certainly not the angel you so obvisously see, as she uses draw reins on a regular baises and on horses who do not particularily need them. However, she has a beautiful position and seat.
Katelyn153 4 years ago
Dressage is about balance, and both methods can be used (and be succesful) but they cannot be put to an extreme.
Katelyn153 4 years ago
Dressage is about balance? yeh, thats one thing that its about. Its about many other things too.
Jaccko14 4 years ago
katelyn - Anky never uses draw reins, i have heard it straight out of her own mouth that she doesnt use them and doesnt like them. Its simple
Jaccko14 4 years ago
I agree with Marialli7, her methods include stong pulling on the reins, creating so much pressure the horse literally has to lock its jaw,at that point the head can be lowered to the point of which its mouth touches its chest (it is damaging to the horse both mentally and physically). She is obviously a talented rider but has a screw loose.
meljw29 4 years ago
no, Anky always talks about how difficult it is for a rider with a hot horse to not pull the rein to much cuz its sending them two messages. You always looking for the "anky" horses for dressage, wiling to work, and a horse which you are telling; forward, forward you can not pull back with a rein all the time, no horse would understand those double messages. she has said only the good riders can understand that. And as piaff1 so nice put it; not many understand dressage.
Minga90ame 4 years ago
Your right not many people do! Their is no evidence to prove that Rollkur has any benefit to the horse. It stresses the topline/poll, affects the horses breathing - so they wont run off? Are you being serious? Classically trained horses will accept the bit and bring their nose down because they want to as they trust the hands of their riders. Dressage should be about humans and horses working together in harmony, not humans forcing superiority over the other.
meljw29 4 years ago
melw29 - there is no evidence to prove that hyperflexion has any benefit? HUUHURRM!! the first part of evidence, is that, THE MOST FAMOUS DRESSAGE HORSES IN THE WORLD GET HYPERFLEXED IN WARM UP. i could go on all day about evidence, but i dont think its worth waisting my time to prove anything to you, as you'd be to ignorant to accept the facts. Quite frankly, you wouldnt even know what evidence is if it hit you in the face.
Jaccko14 4 years ago
Minga90ame knows what she is talking about, and she is 100% true. Minga, insnt it just funny how these people who critisize, dont like hyperflexion, simply because they have no clue or education about it. They hate anky because she is a winner, but why dont they hate isabel? shes also a winner and shes a hyperfler.. its rather sad on their behalf and they honestly have no clue about dressage and should stop riding now.
Jaccko14 4 years ago
Why does she continue to fake out her public? Because most people do not have a clue how to ride, train and work with a horse. So Anky keeps her audience in bewildermant. Because 90 percent of the Dressage world only wishes they could achieve what Anky has. So being flabergasted in awe people flock to her for entertainment.
piaffe1 4 years ago
Anky does not fake anything to the public, everyone in the equine world knows that your training is judged by what is seen in the RING. If your horse goes well in the ring and does a good test at a good standard, that is when you know your training is correct and is working. Why would anky change her methods when they are the best and have evidently worked!
Jaccko14 4 years ago
Toby4Tilly, I have to say I wish I could agree with you. Most of us wish we could do better and show it but it comes down to politics and money. Anky might of once had what it took but politics, money and cheating has her heading in another direction. Her riding and training techniques are atroshish. She has lost the true meaning of Dressage. Unfortunately instead of conceding and calling it quits, she continues to fabricate her rides and pull the covers over her publics eye.
