This is a typical 1st semester film student blunder: Firstly, split screens (especially if they are so long) do one thing they instill in the viewer the feeling that they are never looking at the "right" picture, thereby irritating them A bad thing if you do not really want to generate that feeling.

Secondly, the dialogue scene is so boring and wouldve been much cooler and cleverer if they had been talking to different persons. But that wouldve required more difficult scriptwriting.
