@WorshipInTruth Not really, it's not a claim. A denial is not a claim, and it isn't even necessarily that. It is defined by a lack of belief, and that is all atheists have in common with one another. I'm an atheist because I found there was little proof and I just defaulted to negative. That's basically a logic thing, you default to negative if there is absolutely no proof, because negative is not a claim. Negative is a response to a claim.

@YourProfessor You are wrong, the athiest stance is that there absolutely cannot be a God, that in itself takes a leap of faith because you have no proof that there isnt a God. The more intellectually honest approach would be agnosticism. For me to say that there is a God takes a leap of faith, and for you to say that there is not a God takes a similar leap of faith. Don't you understand?? The intellectually honest approach would be to say "I don't know" i.e agnosticism.

Neither of us can know for sure that fairies do not exist, as you can't prove a negative, but we don't believe in them, now do we. @YourProfessor Also note that the man who developed this principle was himself a believer in God and many others who further elaborated on it (such as Sir Isaac Newton) were themselves devout Bible believers, they apparently saw no contradiction between occam's razor and religious faith or devotion. I always laugh when I see idiots apply "occams razor" wrongly, skeptics think that through it they can carefully assume against the unlikely, but this is a common misunderstanding of the principle.

@WorshipInTruth Whether Occam was a Christian or not is irrelevant. Occam's Razor function as a heuristic on its own merit, not because Occam came up with it. The reason I bring it up is because the idea of a god runs counter to many physical laws we know. The fact that it flies in the face of so many things we know to be true is why I default to the negative position on god.

If you were truely "defaulting to the negative position on god" you would be an agnostic and not an athiest, and you surely wouldn't mock a possibility of or a belief in theism, at least not any more then you would mock the athiest position.
