I'm a life long, die-hard Red Wings fan, but I'll be the first to say Crosby is a really good player, along with Ovechkin. What I won't admit to, because I firmly believe myself right, not just because I'm a Wings fan, but as an all around hockey fan, is that Datsyuk is the most complete player in the NHL. It's not all about goals. It's about your team winning. He plays good defense, he -can- score goals, and he doesn't take many penalties. Team player as opposed to flat out goal scorer any day.
Compared to Datsyuk? Yes. Compared to most players in the NHL? No. As I said, Crosby and Ovechkin are good, but for the most part, they're considered goal scoring players.

Why would you argue about work ethic over those players rather than Pavel Datsyuk.
A player his age (he's not old, but he isn't the youngest bloke in the league) trains harder than any player in the league. He trains harder than rookies trying to make the cut out of training camp. I've been to around 85% of the Wing's practices, and Pavel is ALWAYS pushing hardest and grinding out the most. Also, you don't get that skilled as a 2-way player without working your ass off.

yea this move and the mind set is kinda inherited back then the soviet teams do dry land practices too like playing soccer to build up cardio. few times i have seen Russians to do this like the time when bure put the puck in to his feet then scores or the time when kharlamov fell down and then kicks the puck to the stick then he shot the puck. @jimih64 Look, the point is that +/- is rarely a valuable stat. Right now, you've got Lidstrom at a +1. Last season, Mike Motherfucking Green had a +39 even though he's defensively incompetent.
Crosby plays in all situations, including defensive zone faceoffs (he's actually the first guy the Pens turn to) and the occasional PK. The same can't be said for guys like Ovechkin, Green, etc. so +/- stats are always skewed.

@122edvanas First of all, you must have misspelled that guy's name because NHL.com has no record of a Lou Erikson. Second of all, the definition of "work ethic" extends further than what a player does on the ice. Crosby and Parise work the hardest in the NHL. They train the most, they think hockey the most, they practice the most, they improve their game during the summer the most, etc.

In my opinion Crosby and Datsyuk are both great players. Who cares who's "better" than another? I can guarantee that the Red Wings team don't hate Crosby because they all have respect for one another. So stop putting a bad name out for your team and just accept that they both have unique talents.

yea this move and the mind set is kinda inherited back then the soviet teams do dry land practices too like playing soccer to build up cardio. few times i have seen Russians to do this like the time when bure put the puck in to his feet then scores or the time when kharlamov fell down and then kicks the puck to the stick then he shot the puck. This was in the summit series 72 i believe.

@jimih64 Look, the point is that +/- is rarely a valuable stat. Right now, you've got Lidstrom at a +1. Last season, Mike Motherfucking Green had a +39 even though he's defensively incompetent.
Crosby plays in all situations, including defensive zone faceoffs (he's actually the first guy the Pens turn to) and the occasional PK. The same can't be said for guys like Ovechkin, Green, etc. so +/- stats are always skewed.
