ok, i have a theory that i hope to hell comes to light. thumbs up if you agree. a brain mapping device that can receive your thoughts then re project them which would create a completely controllable dream and be the true virtual reality
They are fakers! I have found out that most if not all functionality in the expressive suit comes from measurements from facial muscles not brain waves (smiling dude demo).
The headset detects muscle movements from the face. The movement of the head is detected with a gyro. They never mention that in the clip. It is also very difficult to ascertain how many sensors are EEG and how many are fascial muscle sensors.
Also they still use crappy wet sensors, which means you must use a saline solution.
@ducky102 you got it wrong lol it detects facial movements yes but it does it through detecting brain waves that change as you move different parts of your body it uses a Gyro so you can have even more functionality it uses the wet saline solution to prevent it from losing a physical contact with your scalp, like an ultrasound. i researched EEG and learned a lot about it and a friend had a medical one, one time. they actually glue the electrodes to the scalp so be glad all you use is saline sol.
@Inversions51 & using the saline solution causes the electrodes to get a stronger signal then if you used just water or something because it conducts the electrical waves better
@Inversions51 Nope, electrical activity is detected from the scalp (fascial muscles). In a medical EEG these are called "artifacts" and get filtered out, watch this clip which explains what artifacts are and where they come from @ youtube(dot)com/watch?v=6qWYcrfr7pk#t=180s.
Instead of filtering, emotiv uses them for their Expressiv suite and perhaps for the other 2 as well.
dude, we should be able to build a game in which the camera adapts to where the user is looking. I also have some thoughts about the intensity and direction control problems. The uses are endless though.
"move stuff simply by thinking about it" - the guy is using his hands, maybe it's would be like the force or magic in Eragon and Harry Potter where it's easyer to use with your hand or by saying it but if you're a jedi or wiser wizard you can stand perfectly still or just lifting a figher to move the objects.
Nah... brain waves are very weak and difficult to perceive from a distance. It's probably not impossible, but to focus and "read" a person's thoughts from a distance is tech that won't be possible for at least another 15-20 years. I'd say that's a pretty conservative bet. But who knows what they've got under their sleeves, lol.
Tech like this has so many truly amazing applications, but the problem is it has equally as many devious ones.
maybe BUT it looks like it may have potential tho. although on a humorous note. i was wondering this today. if say you were usign this in a game. say bf2 for example ;) anyhow. say you're doing whatever it is you are sposed to be doing. then think to self " man id like to look at some good porno or somehting. i wonder how this system as well as the game would react
Yeah yeah yeah, BF2 can be played with the ocz headband controller, you might try that, its difficult as hell, and time taking. The epoc is supposed to react as how good you're feeling, so if you get to nervous it stops working, don't see the point in that. I don't expect this to be out this year, rather 2011, they said 2008, and then, "Oh, we aren't finished yet", guess why, shit load of bugs, their demos don't work half the time, yeah, 2011 is the date, dont expect anything sooner.Porno, huh ?
@SVEJENASE13 Dude, what are you doing on utube, you should be out there, man! You gotta get out of the house and kill babies, dude, that's what you should totally do, kill'em all!

this technology is a good start i hope that in the future they can develop this so that it becomes quite easy to do these tasks with your mind

That would be cool

@Tullerman doing these actions helps them concentrate on the though of doing said action as thus helps people use the controller
