Well, this brings back memories. Fun way to keep the kidz occupied while dad tries real fishing. worried about the round shaped net, bend the wire of it for a better shape. Babies will need lotsa sunblock for a fun, cheap day of fun like this. Between high going to low tides might be best. Bring along some skin so soft for the "no-see-ums". Make sure the kidz have water shoes on, we stopped off at the emergency room onna way home for a nasty oyster shell cut once.

WHO THE HECK CRABS LIKE THIS ANYWAY??? Seems like alot of trouble.....spend $20 on a round colapsible trap or better yet get a crab pot (apx $40) put it in the water and check it periodically...and I've never used a chicken leg....I use turkey necks....just sayin

@sridgeway80 If you are in a survival situation this is a good method for catching them. I grew up in Maryland, and whenever we did not have a crab pot, or were on a boat, we would use this method or something similar. Also, as he said, building a trap would do nicely. Like what you would use for a primitive fish or turtle trap. And chicken legs, gizzards, eel, fish, are all excellent baits to use. I am speaking from experience.

@xavieritolindo He lures the crab in, I have used this method a few times before when I was growing up in Maryland. That's why he said not to throw the line out too far, you want to be able to lure the crab in just enough to reach with the net. Building a trap does the trick too, similar to what you would build for a primitive fish or turtle trap I would suspect.

Just a note if you are fishing for crab and are keeping your catch in most states it one female to every 12 males unless of corse the is survival then it is eat them all there are also size limits I say this cause if you are out fishing and a game warden come up you could be fined

Those crabs are the perfect bait size. There's not a redfish or cobia alive that would pass up a live crab. Years before cobia fishing became so specialized, my grandfather and uncle would catch some blue crab in the bay the night before, then head out to the beach the next morning and wear 'dem 'flat heads" out.

the perfect bait to catch live crabs is the GILLs of the fish, its better also if you add the intestines and all parts inside the fish... it is good ofr catching crabs.... and also fresh chicken heads 2 to 3 pcs. of head ang put it into a net that is circular. and you leave it for couple of minutes or 1 hr. after that if you check it, you can see crabs are in trap in your circular net with rope handle.

This way of crab fishing is stupid. We use traps. Our traps are made of bamboo with a little net below. Then you just tie a dead fish on what we call the crab net and you just cast it out. And when a crab takes your bait, I cannot excape as its legs will be stuck in the net. So all we do is just reel it in.
