  • Okay, folks. Is it called "Love and Hard Times" or "Love In Hard Times"??

  • cool guy

  • Paul your creative process is fresh, more so than so many artists. You inspire and continue to seek such cool grooves...Thanks for making us think. Many years of listening to you with great kindness. My boys were listening as I'd drive around with them as infants. Think it imprinted as they are eyeing my Gurian. Keep exploring you have a gift thats becomes more relevant with each pass.....Bless you and Thanks for fighting the good fight for peace! Kevin

  • I am from Ecuador, I met Poul Simon through my older brothers 27 years ago, at first I didn't understand the lyrics, but i loved his music. Perhaps is a phenomenon of human phonetics . I came to America, and I learned the English language. I strongly confess, I have not being deceived. I enjoy listening to Symon endlessly. I would like to say is that Paul Symon is the most talented composer, poet, philosopher, experimental singer alive.

  • I've never been a Paul Simon fan but now I am!

  • Paul if you see this, young people today, most don't have the patience to listen to an album anymore and it's to bad. Keep writing and keep singing, there is some of us that love your music and love whole albums.

  • Grab the audio from this song at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • Beautiful beautiful beautiful beautiful person he is and i looooove his music thanks paul for living on this earth!

  • I love paul simon. Wish I could meet him and jam with him.

  • Im born 1991 , got to know this music by my father. I love it now , especially the new album ! You definately inspire the younger audience too paul !

  • I'm of a younger generation that grew up as a child in the eighties. I have to be honest, I don't remember too much information from a young age, but Paul Simon's songs stand out in my memory as they do with most other's who are compassionate about life and music. Pure creative talent remains relevant through out time as it is a reflection of ones experience and a snap shot of the moment. This is why so many of us believe that without artists such as Paul Simon, life wouldn't be relevant!

  • This album is a masterpiece. Hands down. Stevie, you're next :-) Come wit' it!

  • It's tight like that!

  • What a legend, his music is just pure brilliance.

  • He talks about how he had not sampled before, but i think Simon and Garfunkel's "7 o'clock news" could be considered sampling...

  • @SoulOfTheRainbow S & G actually hired someone to 'read' the news. The items announced were selected by Paul and Art from a news agency as they were coming in. So it wasn't sampling, it was just an 'extra musical' element added into the track.

  • @mtend06 excellent. thanks for the info!

  • It's sad to hear this stuff. He was once one of the best. RIP.

  • after 5:40, he talks about Mississippi & Delta. Then he talks about a national guitar. Just thought I'd point it out. thanks.

  • But it kind of is an album based on more of a rhythmic premise.

  • Does anyone know if this is the footage on the DVD?

  • @Dupree90 most if not all.

  • it's playing regularly on the "35 and under" alternative radio station in Charleston SC (105.5). HOORAY!

  • Check out the cigar-box guitar at 6:04!

  • I just love his music... I don't see why most people in my age listen to JB and Britney Spears THIS IS THE SHIT

  • Thank You!

  • as usual Paul continues to thrill as he has done since i started listening over 30 years ago!!

  • An extraordinary piece of work. Brilliantly witty and trenchant lyrics, complex and accessible music, in short, a Paul Simon opus. My son and I had just discussed singers who maintain their game throughout their careers and then So Beautiful came on the radio. I said "There you are." Thanks and may the music forever flow.

  • Albums like this don't lose relevance, relevance loses these albums

  • @enrights120 YES!!

  • PAUL! you're RELEVANT...stay RELEVANT...our world needs your RELEVANCY!!!!

  • @urundone Completely. Saw him last night and he was so contemporary and wonderful after being a bit poorly. He'll always work towards a new sound but he must never underestimate his current impact on music.

  • Paul Simon-I'm sorry to hear of your friend, Michael Sarrazin's death. I had breakfast with the two of you at the "Bagel Nosh" in Aspen years ago. I'm sure you have long forgotten but for a kid of 20 it was one of the biggest thrills of my life.

  • Wonderful gift from the proposterously gifted Mr. Simon: great video on the making of his new album, complete with generous song sampling and some cool stories to boot. How great is it to see one of our best songwriters still working at the top of his game?!

  • Further proof that Paul Simon is the most relevant man in the universe. Christ this guy is GOOD, and he's BEEN good for decades.

  • Niños si quieren hacer verdera musica escuchen a este hombre es la neta del planeta seee....

  • I'm so grateful he keeps believing in songwriting, not rehashing covers of others!!!

  • That cigar box guitar from Clarksdale, Mississippi was made by Super Chikan, a great blues player and artist. Check him out. I'm surprised Simon doesn't mention his name.

  • Thanks! @CSFLY77 That's what I was thinking. Maybe Paul said so, and it was cut from the video. Either way, Super Chikan is amazing. Nice to see the connection.

  • Damn i couldn't tell he is 70 now

  • @r0m12 Further proof that Rock and Roll keeps you young.

  • @r0m12 Creating keeps your cells from aging, ya know? ;)

  • Aye, yadzx. GENIUS indeed. In my opinion he creates with a thesarus of musical formation in molding his craft. It's as if he sees so deeply, and is able to bring that to the surface, empathically interpreting the prisms of those sensations into thought and guitar string. The ensuing tune is an artform....vibrant, fresh, rhythmically, musically, linguistically pleasing. He tugs our intellectual strings, and if you listen with your mind, his music teaches creativity. Hi2Mark..Marie (folk artist)

  • I think Love and hard times my be his best written song yet. And he's written so killer tunes. I love the strings on it. Can't wait. Also the afterlife is stunning. That last verse sounds like a near death experience to me....... His music makes me so happy.

  • Can't wait!

  • Very interesting. I always love to hear Paul Simon talk about his songs. They reckon he just interviews himself and you just leave the tape running!

  • Great man, great music, great heart, and the Rev. Billy Bob Savant thinks you rock!
