I think this was actually based on a gag from a Road runner cartoon. The Coyote does the same thing in "Beep Prepared" (1961).

It looks like he really hurt his foot. Why does he continue walking to the convenience store? He should probably be heading off to the hospital or at least a walk-in clinic. And I get it, it's just a commercial, I just like things to make sense. Maybe that' why it's funny.

Yeah, I don't like the newer commercials with the CGI and everything. At least Chester talks more in the old commercials.

It actually does make sense, because he didn't look, got his foot run over, but wanted the cheetos so much he kept going.
And it is kinda funny.
