@bigwrench101 and @Rocky11107 I thought I was the only person my age that listened to this type of music. Whenever I tell my friends I listen to 'shoegaze' they look at me with a confused look lol
What an album. Everybody keeps remembering how good My bloody Valentine were, they forgot about this. Much better, IMO. Their second album is great as well.
@jesuisarmenienne i agree mate in my personal opnion i think my bloody valentine are maybe the most overated band of all time ,they never did anthing even close to this and slowdive piss all over em. i dont rate kevin shields as a guitarist or songwriter , nick maccabes on a different level
"when the Levee Breaks", by Zeppelin, anyone? Compare the drum intro! But all the great ideas are "borrowed" anyhow. And "Dreams..." is the better song.
@solridan did you actually listen to "When the Levee Breaks"? Do you think it is a coincidence? I think that Andy Bell is quite familiar with British rock music of the 60s and 70s. Did Chapterhouse borrow anything from the past? Undoubtedly. It doesn't make them less of a band.
@rossisland11 thought of 'When the Levee Breaks' when I first heard the start of this song. I see at more as taking inspiration from another song though so it doesn't really bother me
@rossisland11 I hear the similarities to Levee Breaks, however, the beat is still very different. I would not categorize this as a 'steal or copy' or even a fair comparison... quite different.
This was my Anthem when I was 17/18, walking along with this on my headphones, or laying on my bed, lost in my own place, everything was blissful and this was perfection. Still love this song as much, it's timeless. I agree with FrickinEm, it is like being in a trance...that thrasy guitar bit would get me every time no matter how many times I re-wound my tape (yes, tape).
This reminds me of being a lil f*^% up, walking to the alternative school, Qwest. Long walk jus 2 avoid the tard bus n get a ride from my boys. Oh my sad/awesome years....Ride is truly quality:-)
Compare the section of this song at 2:10 with Quicksand's "Transparent" at 1:00... gotta be a funny accident. Nearly note for note exactly the same. Love both bands though
This is probably a total accident, but compare the section of this song at 2:15 and Quicksand's "Transparent" at 1:05... I love both bands. Just a hilarious similarity.
After all these years from the 1st time I bought it on vinyl then playing it @ The Twilight Zone on my night Bliitzkrieg @ full volume 143 db @ 5' !!!! With all the change of music since then...
"Dreams' and "Leave" STILL ...DOES IT... It Ignites the Sonic Temple of my mind.
@serf442 yep, saw them in philly just around the same time (it wasn't a dream). Going Blank Again tour I think? Andy Bell, Alan Wild are the only reason I got into Oasis....
Then have to wait until they release all their music?
Have no access to amazing bands like "Them Crooked Vultures" or "The Black Keys"?
Have no way of hearing music by Robert Johnson unless you spend hours in record stores searching for old vinyl that will ultimately be too scratched to appreciate?
We are beyond lucky to live now, we have access to all the best old music, and, contrary to popular belief, just as much filth is released today as was 20 years ago.
Their first album was like, best-debut-ever. Their second was more mainstream but still totally brilliant. Third...hmmm, some good songs, some not so good (it was like that scene in Trainspotting when they're talking about Lou Reed, I wanted to believe they were still great, but I knew deep down they were losing it). Final album, I think I played it once and then gave it away to Oxfam, asking myself How did such a once-great band go so crap? Never mind, at least we still have these memories.
Yeah and they most likely copied the intro or whatever. They don't care though, the money they pay bands like Ride and Kraftwerk (they used the riff from "Computer Love" on "Talk") to use their riffs doesn't amount to how much they end up making on tours and CD sales. Personally I really don't care much for Coldplay. I used to really like them until I realized how unoriginal they were.

I always thought that the beginning of "In My Place" was a sort of homage to this song. It maybe a coincidence, but I believe that the Coldplays should have heard Ride at that time.
@hmgauna you know I sort of get that feeling with a lot of Coldplay songs, I can hear more than an influence, almost a direct copy of tracks from Animals, My Bloody Valentine, New Order and an Argentine group called Soda.
Qué buena canción, carajo. La máxima representación de cómo los sueños por los que uno lucha mucho se van todos a la misma m.........Gran noise el de Ride, mucho feeling y mucha garra a la vez. @94mrwhite Completely disagree, in the 90's "Indie" regarding anything signed to a indie label at the time was very relivent during the early 90's when this record was released, due to the dominance of the majors and the reluctance of the record buying public to buy anything other than main stream. Creation and a few other labels changed that with the help of Grunge and underground techno but sadly the big labels brought that out too. Hence why we live in the X factor world now.
@Tidpole I agree with what you said but i think it's incorrect now to use the term indie becauste its meaning has changed a lot since the timai t was firsty used. Anyways what is important is playing/listening good music independent or not. As for X Factor..it's not music it's just a commercial product
@Tidpole I agree with what you said but i think it's incorrect now to use the word indie becauste its meaning has changed a lot since the time it was first used. @94mrwhite You are correct that Indie has definately changed from what it was, the whole music Industry changed with technology and the ease it is to get stuff out there. I liked the Idealogy of what Indie became back then with Creation,4AD Factory etc. but it didn't make always money and finally the Artists have to make money which I have nothing against. Music today is too much about high level production and not the fun anymore. There are execptions always mind maybe I'm getting old.
