After you get the plasma rifle say ''What are you going to do about zimmer'' and then say i whish i could kill him (or something like that) and he will give you premision to kill him but berofe you do that you can tell him who it was so you get both rewards the other one is a perk that gives you more chance to hit in vats and you only lose i bit of karma whan you accept his reward! :D hope this help'd

Relative merits of the 4 weapons:

Ol' Painless - Best for popping raider heads and super mutants. Since both carry .32 ammo and hunting rifles, you keep yourself in parts and ammo. Further, with 0 spread it's even more accurate than the sniper rifle

Plasma Rifle - great energy weapon, but you just don't get enough MF cells to use it till the Enclave show up

Protectron's Gaze - its cells are plentiful, but accuracy sucks. A shotgun does more damage

Reservist's Rifle - a sniper rifle. Ammo scarce

You can always get the Gauss rifle after you finish operation anchorage (provided that you have the GOTY version or the DLC). You can also get plenty of other goodies (including the ability to wear power armor early in the game.

This may be a bug, but I was always able to get A3-21's Plasma Rifle, then go tell Zimmer about it and get the perk from him before he leaves.

you don´t really need to save before getting the reservists rifle, if the guy doesnt fall down, you can shoot his dead body, then some bodyparts will, and you can loot it off them.

If you're melee-focused there's a unique tire iron in Canterbury Commons, the Highwayman's Friend. Go into Dominic's and Machete's house and it should be sitting on a shelf. It does about as much damage as a sword and has a rapid attack.

these weapons are still harder to get and are a far walking distance and the rebublic of dave is filled with yoa guina so i would suggest waiting till at least lvl 4-6 to start trecking there. protectrons gaze is a big harder. there are 2 sentry bots (aim for the chest) in the way if you start from 101. and also insdie there are i think 3 protectrons and a sentry bot. rivet city is pretty easy. mirelurks? advice would be lvl 2-3

I usually just wait until i can get a missle launcher and a laser pistol from moira. The laser pistol is good because you get lots of ammo for it from her. In 2 visits, i got about 145 energy cells from her. Thats quite a lot if you ask me. Missles are a different story though...

regarding the drifter, what I did was I quick saved, and then tried to get a sneak attack critical with a hunting or sniper rifle. If I missed, I just loaded again and kept doing that until I scored 2 sneak attack criticals on his head.
