well i can see where the towncar got its inspiration from....very nice car.
love the sound of that V8 sounds like an american V8.....coloumn shifter is hilarious in lacking a shift lock....the fact it has one looks like it was obviouslly aimed intentionally at the american market.
@JSneaker What's even worse is that the 1984 Ford LTD Crown Victoria which was far less expensive than this Rolls-Royce used a chime for all three functions instead of the buzzer. Same thing applies to the 1984 Chevy Caprice Classic.
@Jac2Mac , The Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis and Ford Crown Victoria of this vintage rode just as well, was just as quiet, was more reliable and just as comfortable as the Rolls. They just didn't have the Rolls Royce name and real wood interior.
Brilliant video - what an interesting car to film!
Isn't it the case that Rolls Royce don't publish performance figures...? The new Phantom has a "Power Reserve" gauge on the dash rather than a rev counter, which it far to vulgar to put in a Rolls LOL
I knew someone who had a 1980 RR Silver Spirit, I know the engines in these things are kinda problematic. Also on his, the "ice" light was always on. I'm guessing thats a traction control thing.
HP is low but the Torque I'm certain is there considering the engines size. It was tough for me to find specs for this engine. Only found 1 site stating the 220HP but couldnt find torque..... Car was in excellent shape & a definite collectable. What Amazes me is that Roll-Royce still makes this engine, much more modernized tho.
I think if you would've mentioned that to the engineers & designers back in 1984, they would recommend you to visit an Assylum for a few months LOL...
@Intechdude300 accord to automotive magizine.com its 245HP and 398 lb-ft Torque. not bad for what it is I guess. Also its rated at 8 mpg city and 10 mpg highway with 9 mpg overall. Talk about a GAS GUZZLER thats worse then a HUMMER!
Do you know we're I can find spare parts for this car we got ours in 1984 and it needs new window switches

The Action of the Gear Shift lever seems flimsy.

@form109 Its actualy electric gear shift lever
illyrianeyes 2 weeks ago
@illyrianeyes so the gear shift is more like a switch than an actual mechanical connection to the transmission?

@kplatinum777 The British got snobby and Cadillacs got old.

Nice car, specs suck though. 3-speed auto with such a large V8?? The interior is just....awesome....for something older than I am.

@Intechdude300 Yes for a car of this price, it should come with an 8-speed automatic.

@Intechdude300 I'm saying nowadays in 2011. Haha back then the best they could do was probably 4-speed.
