IndependentConservative, the gift of tongues and the sign of tongues are 2 different things. The sign is seen throughout the book of Acts. The gift is spoken about in I Cor. 14. Again, when you can't tell the difference, that lets me know you need to repent to recieve.

No where in scripture does it claim that a "sign" of "tongues that sound like babble" will come to all who receive the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit does not come as some subsequent event, believers are baptized in the Holy Spirit at the point of salvation.

The funny thing about this whole thing is that many of the people who enforce tithe, never engage in stoning, killing a false prophet, wear clothing made with one material, kill disobedient children. Old covenant tithing was NEVER about money. People made money and did not tithe off it. Like Mary and Joseph for example. If we really wanted to have "tithing" today only the richest of saints would be obligated to pay. Today's made up 10% across the board of money earnings is not scriptural at all.

I saw Juanita on TBN, and I thought it was a blessing that she has no unforgiveness in her heart. I noticed that she cried a lot, I hadn't seen her do that in a while. I hope she comes through okay. I believe it's more to the story than a wife being abused. I don't agree with what her husband did, but I believe, it's way more to the story than him moving to that extreme.

Indy, remember from the beginning I always mentioned tithes and offerings. Why? They represent how an individual feels about the ministry they support. Because you don't see the vision of tithe giving from the example of Abraham doesn't make it a lie. Allow the Spirit to minister to you instead of wanting to fight about if it's right or not.

sittingdoe-Keep in mind, when Christ said those words He was living under the law Himself. Which is why he said "weightier matters of the Law". And that tithe was not money. They made money, they didn't "tithe" it. When Christ told us how to give he said it in Matthew 25:31-46. Yes the Pharisees should have done it ALL and that was before the cross. Which is why the apostles never instructed tithing.

B88, the apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ never told anyone to pay a fixed percentage of their labor wages. They never hacked Malachi 3 for money.
Have faith in the Lord. Sure if you tell everyone the truth you'll see less in collections than you see now. You'll have to really live by faith and less by use of fear tactics in your collections. Just the same, you'll have a clear conscience and won't have to worry about being judged on this matter.

Tongues from God are an actual language known on planet earth!
This is why in Acts 2 people could hear their native language. This is why Peter could confirm people were not simply babbling in Acts 10 and why Paul said tongues are to be interpreted in 1 Corinthians 14. The tongues are a "sign" to an unbelieving Jew because they hear the gospel in their native language. Isa. 28:11-12 was a message to ISRAEL NOT YOU. That's why it says "this people".

Not a single point from your questions justifies telling anyone they should pay 10% of anything today, no more than a burnt offering, heave offering or animal sacrifice. And how that relates to giving all away, Luke 12:22-34. Notice Christ says give it to THE POOR. Again, nothing to indicate that after Christ any saint must give a "church" a mandated 10%.

IndependentConservative, the gift of tongues and the sign of tongues are 2 different things. The sign is seen throughout the book of Acts. The gift is spoken about in I Cor. 14. Again, when you can't tell the difference, that lets me know you need to repent to recieve.

b88, tongues spoken of in Isa. 28:11-12 and fulfilled in Acts (+ I Cor. 14) was a sign to Jews. In all cases when tongues were spoken there were Jews present. In particular it was for unbelieving Jews, this is what was noted in I Cor. 14.
No where in scripture does it claim that a "sign" of "tongues that sound like babble" will come to all who receive the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit does not come as some subsequent event, believers are baptized in the Holy Spirit at the point of salvation.

Also, there were other instances in Acts where they recieved the HS like the Jews but interpretation was never mentioned. if 1 had no intrprtn, the speaker was to SPEAK 2 gOD,not the congregation. still allowed to speak in tongues.

Read the scriptures yourselves folks. There is a BIG difference between old and new covenant. Read Hebrews. Never was "tithing" a new covenant command.
Give to keep your household first, 1 Timothy 5:8. Give to poor saints, give to ministers WHO HAVE NEED, give in outreach MINISTRY (give more than physical food but ensure the message of Christ is also given with that, the bread of life).
Don't bind yourselves listening to made up things that do nothing but bind your house with burden.

Paul set the churches in Corinth straight on giving with 1 Corinthians 16. Money freely given to poor saints. The people in Corinth knew nothing of Jewish customs. They didn't know any more than they were taught. Never did Paul tell them they needed to consider "tithing" as done in the old covenant and never did he say they must pay 10% of their wages.
What is called tithing today was a made up system of collections to bind saints and fatten the pockets of pastors. It's Matthew 23 again.

Old covenant tithing was NEVER about money. People made money and did not tithe off it. Like Mary and Joseph for example. If we really wanted to have "tithing" today only the richest of saints would be obligated to pay. Today's made up 10% across the board of money earnings is not scriptural at all.
It is wrong for any minister to bind saints into such legalism.

bishop88fingers - Tithing is simply not in any instructions for the new covenant church. The custom does not exist. The only custom for giving is noted in 1 Corinthians 16. That was for poor saints and people were allowed to give freely, no set amount. Giving to ministers is noted as "double honor" in 1 Timothy 5:17, but never a mandate for tithing to them as if they were old temple priest. And even today, people who claim Judaism do not tithe.

God was right there watching. He gives people free will to do what ever they want to. But he offers us a righteous path to follow. Just like you and i have done wrong in our lives, church leaders have also done wrong and strayed from the path, and we have to face the concequences of our actions.

Just went to the site......2 questions.....
1. If Melchizedek is who the Bible says he is, why is he referred to in the study as a pagan?
2. Tithes from an Israelite who wasn't a herder or a farmer was not mentioned..It seemes that he believed ALL ISREALITES were herders or farmers. What's up there?

Why are you asking me questions you should direct to the Dr who did the research?
For me it does not require all those pages of study, just scripture. Tithing is not a command for the new covenant church, period and no apostle ever told anyone to give any fixed percentage and never said they were "robbing God" if they did not give at all. New covenant giving is about the needs of the poor.

2 things.....
1. New covenant church according to Jer. 31 comes out of the houses of Judah and Israel. Their lifestyle included tithe paying.
2. When it comes down to supporting ministry, Tithes and Offerings are always mentioned. I Cor. 9:9-14(the content of the text is in context)

bishop88fingers-No, your 1st point does not justify what is called "tithes" today and I Cor. 9:9-14 does not justify a fixed 10% gross percentage either. NEVER did Paul instruct anyone to pay 10%. Support of someone who labors in the ministry IF THEY NEED SUPPORT is one thing. (Paul usually preached for free.) Setting 10% mandatory and lying as if someone is "robbing God" if they don't pay it is another. Most collections were for helping poor saints. Consider 1 Corinthians 4.

You are correct, that there are different types of tithes mentioned in the OT, AND that it would add up to about 30% of one's income if done scriptually. This only shows that some ministries pick and choose texts THAT THEY WANT TO FOLLOW FOR THEIR BENEFIT!!! It doesn't make the Word of Yah of none effect.
