It's natural for humans to want to create and find different categorize things, and people. However, that being said, humans also love to taxonomize things and people, so in that regard you can't blame people for trying to attribute labels to music or a band as something.
he is mistaken that he has no concept on music theory, he plays chords and western major and minor scales. I think he is too liberal in his approach , because at times his music sounds messy. Also he didn't say that god was nonexistent and a fabrication of the human mind, he said that the human concept of god was too small
@sonobecube Whether his music sounds "messy" is a judgment on your part. That's the way he plays it and if it goes out as a final product then that's how he wants people to hear it.
@fo0dnippl3 , it is a judgement and opinion thats true... from my own experience with recording guitar tracks and layering , i think his techinque in terms of production and sound needs to be toned down. He need to compress his tracks. His music sounds sometimes like he is splattering paint when he needs to brush.
@sonobecube That's actually a pretty apt analogy. Jackson Pollock was praised for his art even though he just spattered paint on a canvas. Since I think Pollock's work is mostly a load of baloney, I can see where you're coming from.
at 1:30 he claims not knowing anything about music theorie. D'you think this is true? Hes such a great composer. I cant image that he doesnt even know what a chord is.
@Quapuzi He doesn't know music theory from a formal study perspective. He has obviously mastered music theory from intuition/trial and error and just shitloads of natural talent.......ofcourse he knows what a fuckin chord is what the fuck dude..
when he says "God is Love" he is referring to the Love as synonymous w/ "True Will". Where The Will is the impetus to move us in a harmonious manner in relation to all the other stars of the universe.
im not over analyzing..Im paraphrasing what he's said in other interviews. He's studied Aleister Crowley's Book of the Law which people recognize immediately when he's talking about this shit.
Irony is that the narrow concepts of god he finds funny also includes his own where he says "god is only love". God cannot feel jeolousy or hate but is love? Why love? Good and evil is a human concept also. I dunno.. kinda weird how he says god is beyond description but clearly has his own ideas what he is about.
most of what omar said was incredibly insightful, but he started saying god can't have human attributes, listed some, but then changed around and said God is love. i feel like he meant to say God is a source of goodness rather than love because love is a human emotion and is really left up to individual interpretation
Omar têm faces mais do que músico, de uma pessoa com muita inteligência, profunda mirada crítica da vida e grande sentido comúm. Nao em vao ele gosta também de outras expressoes da arte como o cinêma.
This is the New Age pretentious conceptual ball-gargling and quote mis-attributing you'll do kids if you take a liking to heroin and then displace that megalomaniacal ego inflating fix for modest popular and financial success.
That's disappointing, the logical inconsistencies. Subjectively saying god can't be conceived but god is love. Garbage, however I still like the music.
Amazing Omar! he's got such a grand scale of music and spirituality. He's like a guitarist shaman, I completely believe his concept of music. But awkward how it became a religious topic at the end and such. But I believe that too, that god is not "god" god is just a fabrication of our mind and exists only because we make "god" exist.
I can't belive how Omar says such good things about God having recorded Amputechture.... that's just beyond me, specially for the song Asilos Magdalena. Any help please?
If you're referring to the unproven concept of the song "Asilos Magdalena" that fans say it's about stepping away from religion then what is hard to understand. He is against peoples definitions of God(i.e. organized religions such as Christianity,Islam,Judaism, etc) Just as the song is supposedly suggesting. His records have always questioned religion, not God, just how others perceive God to be. Which goes in line with what he just said in this interview.
It's just a bunch of confusing shit, and I don't want to attack anyone's opinion, but Asilos Magdalena is directly attacking God, not religion, the same way Vicarious Atonement attacks Jesus and not religion.
whats so ignorant about that? its the truth music has been around for thousands of years nobody an really find the exact time or place music began. Even when the earth wasnt made music was here. Its all metaphysical man. And only the open minds will understand what this doode is talking about...
All of creation is vibration. I mean this is called a "uni"-"verse", "one song." Music is vibration, and vibration has no beginning, end, history, or future. The only thing that exists is the eternal, present vibration.
yeah, but do you think love is something definable? do you think you can even describe love in words? in my conception of love, i really can not explain it... at all.
@diegokmoraes that's a good point, but i do think saying, "god is only love" is the same as saying "god is only judgement." maybe judgement is easier to define than love, but they are both human words that relate with human experiences, which he was arguing should not be used to define God. Personally, when I feel close to God, i usually feel blissful and loving, so why not define god as love and bliss, and you are right, i can't even define those feelings.
God is love... Love is free... So if love is free then how is he contradicting??? Love is a freedom of expression. If you love somebody you want to express that love to them right? If you love basketball you want to express your love for it by playing it right? well if god is love then we all were created by god to express it freely with no restrictions or limits. Religion does exactly that. Religion has rules love has none... So god is LOVE...
He said he laughs at religion for categorizing God with human elements but then says, "God is only love." Is love not a human element? Is love not something we humans experience and then attempt to symbolize through a word? "Love" as a word is a human construct, it has meaning because we give it meaning. Saying God is love is categorizing God through a human word, a human experience. And by the way hate is free too, hate has no rules, it's an expression. Can't God be hate? Why only love?
@jmmatos23 Well that depends on one's concept of God. Personally I think of God as totality, nothing is separate from God, God is includes all opposites, He is the demon within us all and the angel. Hate is very important in creation, without it love would have no meaning, no significance. We would be unmotivated to love more and hate less.
this is the most interesting interview with him i've ever seen. usually they're just talking about business stuff, but in this interview you can really see the man behind the surface!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
so let me get this shit straight, this piece of lard dumb bitch asked these questions on video 1 and 2 but nothing about the fact that they have a new drummer which is the biggest buzz about them, moreso than the first question: why do you like music? he has done it his entire fucking life, he likes music because it is his life. ask something of importance for once interviewers.
this is actually one of the more interesting interviews omar's given, if not the most interesting. you'll start hearing the same old shit soon enough with other interviews, so don't worry
Yeah the first question was pretty unimaginative, but Omar answered it beautifully - he tries to make the best of the situation he has. Less creative artists will give a bland answer to a bland question, but Omar's mind is always going a mile a minute.

whats so ignorant about that? its the truth music has been around for thousands of years nobody an really find the exact time or place music began. Even when the earth wasnt made music was here. Its all metaphysical man. And only the open minds will understand what this doode is talking about...

All of creation is vibration. I mean this is called a "uni"-"verse", "one song." Music is vibration, and vibration has no beginning, end, history, or future. The only thing that exists is the eternal, present vibration.

it's really funny that he says he laughs at religion for defining God and then says God is love. somewhat contradictory there
aerickso123 2 years ago
yeah, but do you think love is something definable? do you think you can even describe love in words? in my conception of love, i really can not explain it... at all.
diegokmoraes 2 years ago 2

Why only love?
aerickso123 2 years ago
Love is of God before it was of humans, and hate is the opposite of love. How can be God the opposite of what he is?
jmmatos23 2 years ago
@jmmatos23 Well that depends on one's concept of God. Personally I think of God as totality, nothing is separate from God, God is includes all opposites, He is the demon within us all and the angel. Hate is very important in creation, without it love would have no meaning, no significance. We would be unmotivated to love more and hate less.

These questions are awesome. And the interviewer is so god damn CUTE.
BTW. Next OR-L release will be an epic, motivational, spoken word, album.

so let me get this shit straight, this piece of lard dumb bitch asked these questions on video 1 and 2 but nothing about the fact that they have a new drummer which is the biggest buzz about them, moreso than the first question: why do you like music? he has done it his entire fucking life, he likes music because it is his life. ask something of importance for once interviewers.

this is actually one of the more interesting interviews omar's given, if not the most interesting. you'll start hearing the same old shit soon enough with other interviews, so don't worry
catinmysoup 2 years ago 17
Yeah the first question was pretty unimaginative, but Omar answered it beautifully - he tries to make the best of the situation he has. Less creative artists will give a bland answer to a bland question, but Omar's mind is always going a mile a minute.
