  • Where is this?

  • @TJBrunsonProductions on the white clay..

  • @TJBrunsonProductions if you dont mind me asking? Wheres the white clay?

  • @TJBrunsonProductions it runs thru newark into stanton then to newport-

  • @freedomfascist Im a Fisherman, but I have no clue what state this is in. I'm sorrry for the bugging comments. Just a kid trying to collect his facts.

  • Are shad decent eating or just a kick in the ass to catch? We don't have them in the northwest.

  • @tinbanger66 great fighters, very oily and bony tho... the native americans used to smoke them on hickory planks and so did the early settlers to get thru the winters-

  • @tinbanger66 .... mostly kick ass to catch and very good for bass and rockfish/striper bait

  • that looks like so much fun !!

  • @BassKicker527 yeah man, I wait all year for these guys to show up!!

  • Where's the inlet?

So they should be everywhere in the brandywine during spring?

  • @pedroroch they cannot make it past wilmington because of all the dams on brandywine... this is why there are regulations in effect to let all dams fall in disrepair. They were originally the main food source for the lenapes along the brandywine

  • Hopefully I'll catch some shad dude , they look fun!

  • @pedroroch they are amazing, yet only around here in the springtime! they're down at the inlet all the time tho

  • i got a 17 inch smallie!!!

on a worm with jig head!

and wat ur using catches shad only?

  • @pedroroch well, sometimes trout will eat them, other than that, crappie sometimes, but I jus use them for the shad or light tackle saltwater

  • Last question haha, what do u use for bass, or some of the larger fish?

  • @pedroroch 1/8 oz. jigheads with 3" grubs in crawdad colors bounced off the bottom should get a few

  • What do u ussualy use? And there's also red eared bass right?

  • @pedroroch -red-eye, or stump bass, or rock bass, all the same fish

  • Do u know how to catch smallmouth in the brandywine?

  • @pedroroch lol, with much patience.. they are wary and this summer is dry and slow... water sucks this year!

  • Okay and u got alot of current?

    What lure/bait?

  • @pedroroch shad darts or 2" grubs in white or chartreuse works fine there pedro

  • What time of the year is this?

And can u catch em by the museum?

  • @pedroroch march thru early may... which museum?

  • @freedomfascist

    THE BRANDYWINE RIVER MUSEUM

  • @pedroroch I am fishing the white clay in this vid... the brandywine has some hicks and whites but I dont really fish it for them, so i'm not sure dude

  • i need to find a creak like this somewhere so i can catch some bait for flatheads

  • use that as bait!

  • nice jump!

  • looks like good shad fishin. we catch them in nova scotia about the same size or bigger

  • @pipelayer90 I did hear that u guys do real well up there with the shad.. hickory's or american or both?

  • Used to catch those things in Oregon also, they bite anything. All we had to do was throw a jighead with nothing on and they'd bite it.

  • tru- they hit to kill, they dont eat during the spawn, just try to kill anything small that gets near their nesting area

  • here in colorado i cant find shad that big only like 3in big :/ what does the shad eat to get that big

  • these are migrating hickory shad.. not the litl gizzards or threadfin that the bass chase..

  • How come you weren't keeping them? Aren't the good to eat??

  • very salty and oily.. I keep some for catfish and striper bait!

The native americans used to smoke them over hickory planks

  • awsome man!! 5*

  • thanks bro!!

  • man if the shad are that big there just imagint the size of the bass

  • yea we call them skipjack down in phenix city, alabama

  • Dang, those shad are huge. I wasn't expecting that. The shad size we have down here at Lake Sinclair, GA are about 3-4 inches long. Great vid

  • these are hickory shad... not the litl threadfin that bass munch on..these r stripers favorite food...and herring!

  • great blue and flathead catfish bait i snagged 60 9-12" a week ago cut them up in frezeer now

  • best crab bait

  • u catch em on the coastal states...u may have seen a sucker or small carp jumping during the spawn

  • what states can u catch these in because i was in T.N. and i saw things that looked like big shad jumping out of the water about that size but i wasnt sure if it was a shad maybe a drum or something

  • if thats were the red & white meet up you dont need that license its tidal

  • all de waters need licenses this year, tidal er not..second year DE did that

  • hey buddy where this spot at or is it another one of your favorite ones

  • lol, yea, kinda is... but the brandywine is giving up stripers and shad already by the zoo on market street :)

  • well it depends what kind of shad it is not all shad are ocean fish there a couple of species that live here in nebraska and i know that the gizzard shad get big enough to catch on rod and real and have very soft mouths i was not for sure if those also had soft mouths

  • im pretty sure shad have very soft mouths and if u set the hook it will tear their mouths

  • guess u havent caught a shad before...they are ocean fish with VERY tough mouths..how sure were you?

  • did you even hook the fish or you were reeling and the fish was hooked by him self?????

  • you hook them in the mouth..they try to kill your lure..

  • Great job on this vid!!

  • if I was you I would have put some of those badboys in a bucket, great for cut bait.

  • we do in the next video :)

we save alot of them every year for cats n stripers

  • Shad are great fish to catch, i like getting them ion my fly rod too

  • Really nice fish man

  • gota love the shad run!!

  • he catches a fish everytime he casts...

  • thank ya..cant wait till next march when they head back!

  • Nice man, Big shad

  • man that looks like fun!

  • in the spring...late march thru mid may
