Someone may have already stated this, but these dash cams don't use film. They use a micro SD card. A 16gb card can give you about 5 to 7 hrs of recording. And you can have them record segments like 2, 5 or 15 minutes before starting a new file. Once the card is full it starts to record over the oldest segments. Pretty much a "set it and forget it" system and like the aadeebindy said, it's insurance against anything you might be accused of, like running a red light when it was clearly yellow.
