The album "Lapse" is not Floyd's best but its by no means "awful" and as for Gilmour "on his own wasn't a good composer" I'd like to draw your attention to his first solo album of 1978, for which he composed Comfortably Numb, "on his own" Your thesis therefore although articulate, is complete crap !

This album ('lapse') is awful and this song is so poorly written. I like Gilmour, but on his own he wasn't a good composer. This tune is typical of his post-Waters output - poor long-form development and cheap, outdated 80s aesthetic. Here, the opening riff is poorly integrated with the rest of the song and the rhythm is dull, predictable, uncomplicated. Gilmour brought Floyd really close to adult contemporary in those last two albums - vapid music all around.

true in a sense...it is missing Roger Waters. He is the essential force that was Floyd before Waters himself gave up.

But credit the great, great guitarist wizard David Gilmour for pressing on her chapaev36. Don't trash him, that is BS! HE was not ready to call it quits. And who the "F---" are you (in the words of Townshend...) Is it as awesome as the original? No. But who are you to pan it as trash!!! I guess you shelter yourself from current "rock' (is there such an animal?).
