Why did GM need to come out with the 5.7 L82 to even compete with Fords' 5.0 (really a 4.9)? The reason is simple: For same size engines, Ford wins. GM needs a bigger engine. Always has, always will. A mild H/C/I ls1 i have seen between 400-450 rwhp. High 11's shouldn't be a problem as long as you can hook.

I'm not planning on taking it to a track or anything like that, so chances are on the street, I'd not have a lot of competition, and even if so, it'd still be all good to me, pulling off the toll booth and hitting 90 in seconds flat, t-tops off, ws6 handling got it goin' on...

@marcomariaz26 Like i said don't pay attention to "ratings" Gm underrated the ls1 engine in the f-bodys so it wouldn't hurt corvette sales. They are all around 340-350. They will dyno a little different due to transmissions, part changes in years and ect. For instants a 01-02 ls1 f-body will dyno the highest due to a ls6 intake manifold swap from a ls1 intake manifold. You really cant go by motor trend or car and driver they dont know anything.

@fullrearview ford isnt gonna make a 427. the 5.0 and 6.2 arent modular motors either but ford is actually planning on putting the 6.2 in the mustang in a few years but i also seen some stuff floating around on a forum i belong to that ford will be making a DOHC engine with a bore size of 3.900 and the stock stroke of the 5.0l. and the only advantage a chevy V8 has over a ford V8 is bigger bore size.

the mustang has the same amount or tq or less than the trans am and camaro's, but because they had it at a lower rpm, they were able to get up to speed quicker, but when the trans am and camaro gets it up it will walk as we can c lol

@oldskoolmuscleguy not a junk motor just alot of torque and not so much hp yanno I have a 383 stroker in my 84 trans am with a built 700r4 tranny and built 3.73 rear with longtube hooker headers and im pushing 11.7 in the 1/4 when it was around low 14's stock yanno I mean the 305 were very tuff engines all carb as well no TBI or TPI at that time but even the 305 was a tad stronger then the 302 mustang made but because of price and the 3.73 rear stock in a mustang it was the cheaper way to go
@95gt00d it would be close but the trans am will still have more top end. now if it were a ls1 vs a 100 shot stang the stang would launch good but the trans am would pull on it after 100 ft unless the trans am has DR so it can put the power down and not just spin. I raced a 01 gt with full exhaust and a 100 shot in my auto ls1 trans am, he was out in front for about 80-110ft but after that i would pull on him(you can check my page to see my car I have exhaust and a tune that's all)

unless he has a PI head with intake up grade you can throw money at that 1996 GT all day and its still go race in reverse. slowest mustangs ever. I owned a 1997,1998, and a 1996 cobra. cobra was only one out of the 1996-1998 worth anything. and im a mustang guy. PI head up grades on those cars make a BIG difference.
i got a 93 cobra convert. and it has a 5.0 302 HO it has a mean cam, cobra intake off a ford explorer bottom and top end it is stroked with bbk shorty headers and some other stuff it has a 373 posi and it has a schults short throw with a t5 it has a full h-pipe and i took it to the strip and it ran a 11.89 it ate camaros and trans ams corvettes for breakfast
yeah if any trans am or camaro had a 305 5.0 with some do they have no balls a mustang with a 5.0 302 HO has balls. any camaro or trans am with a 305 has no chance. the only reason they put the 350s in the camaros and trans ams was because they needed extra horsepower to beat the mustangs and the 302s still was just as fast and if you put a cam and the cobra intake on a 5.0 ho u got a bad street machine they eat trans ams and camaros all day
I had an '83 Mustang GT with a 5 liter High Output factory rebuilt engine, headers, stock 4 bbl., 5-speed. Nothing in it's class could touch it. Yes, I was outran by at least 2 trans ams, but they had at least 400 cubic inches. Nothing with a 302 engine (or close) was even in the same league. I outran several corvettes with it, if they were a bit older, or not tuned just right, I could watch 'em get smaller in my mirror. 1 corvette blew up when he mashed it.
tbh missing 2nd in two races.. what a horrible driver. iv been driving my mustang and maybe missed once when i got it for the first time, but not bad for a trans am.

Truth is I love both the Mustang GT and the Trans Am, but for the price, the Mustang is just incredibly underpowered. $7000 can get you a 260 hp 2000 Mustang GT or $8000 can get you a 320hp 2000 Trans Am. At the same time $3000 can get you a 215 hp 1996 Mustang GT or a 285 hp 1995 Trans Am. For $3k I got my '94 T/A which came with full bolt ons and makes ~320 hp.
@dodge69874 Even with full bolt ons a '99-'04 Mustang GT would have a hard time pushing 300+ hp. But with full bolt on an LS1 Trans Am would probably make about 380 hp maybe more. Then heads, cam, and tune would put you well into the 400's with an LS1. And you'd probably be running 11's or maybe even 10's with drag radials.

Bought it for $3k a few months back. Frankly, I would have a preferred a '99-'04 Mustang GT but for the price they are just too underpowered ($6500 for a 260 hp car).
the pony wars have been going on forever. That gen in the races Ford was totally outclassed with a puny 4.6(281CI) vs the fbodies 350. However the previous gen for almost 12 years the ford bitch slapped the general with the Fox 5.0. Thru the 70's it was a wash, bouth sucked(from 74 onwards), 60's there was multiple battles on multiple fronts, and now full circle, as the new 5.0's give the SS a run without anything for far FAR less money, while the 500GT's bitch slap the general and dodge..

the stang driver needs to learn how to shift, honestly both body stylz look like shit, especially the stang ford really fucked up when they went to the 4.6 V8, apout fing time they bring back the 5.0, the stang is finally cool again lol
Please remember this is a GT not a COBRA . The GT's are lower power along with price. Low 20 k range(at that time). The 305 hp Cobra will run side by side with that LT1 car. I have always wanted to buy an SS or TA but the cost kept me from buying one not that I am saying that they are not worth it as they are very much so. thanks for posting.

@Jakethysnake93 really to put it simple it fine tunes the car. it adjustes the air, fuel, and the timing to to give the most HP of you already have. it helps some. around a 5-15HP gain(depending on if you have supporting mods) and 5-10 flbs of torque. if you have an automatic transmission if adjust the firmness of shifts as well. its a good mod if your going keep your car a bolton street car like these 2 are.
@brightsun11 obviously pontiac/chevy, and there are slight body differences...the trans am is the high end firebird whereas the regular camaro is the low end car(high end camaro is the z28)...i hav a stock 99 firebird and my cousin has a stock 98 camaro so side by side its easier to tell the differences

Trans ams have always beaten GT's stock to stock, year to year. Guaranteed, if GM had continued Pontiac, the Trans Am would have been revived with anywhere from a LQ9, LS7, or LSX which would smash your little "2011 Coyote Mustang 5.0"

@95gt00d it would be close but the trans am will still have more top end. now if it were a ls1 vs a 100 shot stang the stang would launch good but the trans am would pull on it after 100 ft unless the trans am has DR so it can put the power down and not just spin. I raced a 01 gt with full exhaust and a 100 shot in my auto ls1 trans am, he was out in front for about 80-110ft but after that i would pull on him(you can check my page to see my car I have exhaust and a tune that's all)

unless he has a PI head with intake up grade you can throw money at that 1996 GT all day and its still go race in reverse. slowest mustangs ever. I owned a 1997,1998, and a 1996 cobra. cobra was only one out of the 1996-1998 worth anything. and im a mustang guy. PI head up grades on those cars make a BIG difference.

i got a 93 cobra convert. and it has a 5.0 302 HO it has a mean cam, cobra intake off a ford explorer bottom and top end it is stroked with bbk shorty headers and some other stuff it has a 373 posi and it has a schults short throw with a t5 it has a full h-pipe and i took it to the strip and it ran a 11.89 it ate camaros and trans ams corvettes for breakfast

yeah if any trans am or camaro had a 305 5.0 with some do they have no balls a mustang with a 5.0 302 HO has balls. any camaro or trans am with a 305 has no chance. the only reason they put the 350s in the camaros and trans ams was because they needed extra horsepower to beat the mustangs and the 302s still was just as fast and if you put a cam and the cobra intake on a 5.0 ho u got a bad street machine they eat trans ams and camaros all day

I had an '83 Mustang GT with a 5 liter High Output factory rebuilt engine, headers, stock 4 bbl., 5-speed. Nothing in it's class could touch it. Yes, I was outran by at least 2 trans ams, but they had at least 400 cubic inches. Nothing with a 302 engine (or close) was even in the same league. I outran several corvettes with it, if they were a bit older, or not tuned just right, I could watch 'em get smaller in my mirror. 1 corvette blew up when he mashed it.

Truth is I love both the Mustang GT and the Trans Am, but for the price, the Mustang is just incredibly underpowered. $7000 can get you a 260 hp 2000 Mustang GT or $8000 can get you a 320hp 2000 Trans Am. At the same time $3000 can get you a 215 hp 1996 Mustang GT or a 285 hp 1995 Trans Am. For $3k I got my '94 T/A which came with full bolt ons and makes ~320 hp.

@dodge69874 Even with full bolt ons a '99-'04 Mustang GT would have a hard time pushing 300+ hp. But with full bolt on an LS1 Trans Am would probably make about 380 hp maybe more. Then heads, cam, and tune would put you well into the 400's with an LS1. And you'd probably be running 11's or maybe even 10's with drag radials.

of course after saying all that, I own a 94 Mustang GT, lightly modded about 270 HP, and I wouldn't trade it for all the tea in china. After growing up in the age of the muscle car, ANY rear drive PONY car is better then NONE of the front wheel CRAP being produced today.....you couldn't pay me to drive a front drive piece o 4 cyl crap EVER again, no matter how much money....they're all shit, V6's included....

Bought it for $3k a few months back. Frankly, I would have a preferred a '99-'04 Mustang GT but for the price they are just too underpowered ($6500 for a 260 hp car).

the pony wars have been going on forever. That gen in the races Ford was totally outclassed with a puny 4.6(281CI) vs the fbodies 350. However the previous gen for almost 12 years the ford bitch slapped the general with the Fox 5.0. Thru the 70's it was a wash, bouth sucked(from 74 onwards), 60's there was multiple battles on multiple fronts, and now full circle, as the new 5.0's give the SS a run without anything for far FAR less money, while the 500GT's bitch slap the general and dodge..

Please remember this is a GT not a COBRA . The GT's are lower power along with price. Low 20 k range(at that time). The 305 hp Cobra will run side by side with that LT1 car. I have always wanted to buy an SS or TA but the cost kept me from buying one not that I am saying that they are not worth it as they are very much so. thanks for posting.

@Jakethysnake93 really to put it simple it fine tunes the car. it adjustes the air, fuel, and the timing to to give the most HP of you already have. it helps some. around a 5-15HP gain(depending on if you have supporting mods) and 5-10 flbs of torque. if you have an automatic transmission if adjust the firmness of shifts as well. its a good mod if your going keep your car a bolton street car like these 2 are.

@brightsun11 obviously pontiac/chevy, and there are slight body differences...the trans am is the high end firebird whereas the regular camaro is the low end car(high end camaro is the z28)...i hav a stock 99 firebird and my cousin has a stock 98 camaro so side by side its easier to tell the differences

Trans ams have always beaten GT's stock to stock, year to year. Guaranteed, if GM had continued Pontiac, the Trans Am would have been revived with anywhere from a LQ9, LS7, or LSX which would smash your little "2011 Coyote Mustang 5.0"

I still prefer the screaming chicken's body style to a 'mara or a pony. It deserves a 50th anniversary special edition like any other muscle car mhmm.
