That would be the photographer's fault unless she was doing it to spite the photographer. A professional photographer is responsible for directing the shoot, not just clicking the shutter. The subjects need to be told where to stand, how to pose, and if there are any problems like stiffness or squinting, it's the photographer's job to recognize the problems because they are the one viewing the scene.

Actually, apart from the first picture, they are all average and not worth the money. In most pictures, the photographer did not zoom in far enough to put more emphasis on the subjects. In some pictures, you see a big tree with two little subject in between. And turning a picture to B&W does not automatically make a good or creative picture. You do that in order to emphasize texture or patterns, or to remove the temporal dimension. The flipflops JJ mentions would also be taken care of by a pro.

Those pictures were beautiful. I didn't see a single thing wrong with them, and I've worked as a graphics designer. In a photo shoot a hundred or more pictures are taken. The client then chooses from the set which ones they want to keep. However, unless the contract states that final payment is based upon how many pictures they choose (which would be a stupid contract) the client is expected to pay the photographer for the work done. This woman and her mom are picky and controlling.

I understand having one for a wedding, as that would be something you might look back on in 30 years. But do people really look back fondly at the engagement period?
