  • @BreeBreelover100 I assume you use unsalted butter so that you can control how much salt goes into your pastries. That's my uneducated guess anyway.

  • @intelstat Yes, it's similar but it is different. The main difference is in how it incorporates the strawberry. With jelly, the strawberry flavor comes from strawberry juice, in jam the strawberry flavor comes from strawberry pulp and in preserves the strawberry comes from crushed strawberries. Using preserves instead of jelly or jam definitely makes a difference. It'll taste allot better with preserves than jelly or jam.

  • I have a question for you, Laura. What happens if I use salted butter in place of unsalted butter and salt? Does it affect the recipe terribly, affect the consistency, etc,?

  • @TheChubbyJenny from experience, if you use salted butter, use half the salt, or none at all or the cake will be slightly salty, if you like salted caramel thats good, if not the cake will still be good, but the taste will be a little off.

  • Cool recipe! I enjoyed watching the whole process and I really like how you DON'T edit some parts out (like when the preserves didn't come off right away or your whisk almost fell). It makes it feel much more realistic because when it's edited so perfectly, it just makes the cook look infallible. Plus it was funny :). Also, is there a healthier and simpler recipe? I know you really like whip cream and I wanna make strawberry shortcake but not gain like 10 lbs haha.
