  • I was thinking about getting this program. I wanna learn how to animate 3D creatures. :D would this be a good program for a beginner?

  • The IK Handle tool's affect only lasts for 1 movement. Then it deletes itself :S

  • cute cat

  • I was thinking about this really quick, and I don't think anybody gives a shit why someone doesn't make a tutorial for some period of time. They don't. They'd just as soon you stop bullsit yapping and get on with important matters. And if you really felt the need to justify yourself, you'd realize that sorry doesn't work, work works.

  • @SenorCajones please don't produce offspring

  • thanx for posting this video.. but did you study or just take a look at a skeleton of a cat? cause that is NOT how a cat moves...

  • thank

  • I assume this can also be used to rig dogs as well?

  • @SakuyaKira24 Nha its only works with cats XP

  • @thedennisgame Lol

  • @SakuyaKira24 it can be used to rigg anything.. even rocks.. but that would be very strange...

  • thanks

  • can you make a move on how to make a cat or plzz or a dragon on maya 2011 ? step by step

  • very nice, thank you! i'm starting to understand how this works

  • thank you thank you!! great vid

  • great teach

  • i simply cant add skeletons :/ i try but nothing appear

  • @sanfelipe007 maybe its because your trying to put them on perspective view

  • @lbuenfil10 i dont know even what is perspective view xD

  • @lbuenfil10 push and hold space an then click on front or side view and try to put the joints

  • that's funny

  • I have major problems with this. My models are always stretching and warping once I attach the skeleton to the model and try to animate it.

Any advice would be most welcome!

  • which software u used to record screen?

  • @amithooo It's the program "Ishowu HD"

  • finally someone who is not explaining this simple thing over 30 minutes or over 10 videos! please make more tutorials like this, you'll save me so much time! Fast, simple, awesome, thank you!

  • @sonickillzone umm... definitely not trying to be a dick, and I know this'll only make it worse I'm sure, but did you watch the video?

  • thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. god bless u...

  • Awesome tutorial!

  • ohh u move too much .. i got a headache from it ...

  • Wow, Great tutorial. Thanks a bunch.

  • esta es la versión 2009como se descarga

  • esta es la versión 2009

  • this is the 2009 version

  • how much does this cost?

  • @mikeybigboy nothing for personal use -> see autodesk

  • What 3d modelling program should i get?

this one C4D or 3D Max??

  • @thegameguy1000 Maya is my favorite. It's easy, comes with tons of awesome features, and its free.

  • I don't have such a bit X on the foot.

  • The IK handle tool doesn't work by mine. I don't know why...but they don't move.

  • @MichsterSama same here.

  • thank you so much!!!

  • how did you get hold of this software

  • is this more simple than blender, im very new, and i was inspired by a 3d animation film called ultramarines, its a warhammer 40k vid, and i really would like to make some cut scenes etc. but blender, i was like "wtf is this, vectors?" i just need some advice, is this only for mac, is it hard to use , is it basic? thanks alot!

  • Hey, I know this is SUPER DUPER late, but my name is HollyMari and I just bought Maya2011 like 2 or 3 weeks ago and the learning process has been a rollercoaster. I'm currently learning (by way of tutorials here on youtube) how to construct a face through polygons. I was wanting to know of any advice that you might have. My dream with this PRICEY software is to creat my own animations like the ones seen here THNX

  • Thanks, this is the simplest and by far the best tutorial that I have found

  • Thanks! This is just what I was looking for!

  • Great tut - thanks for making it so quick and to the point. So many of them out there are too long and cumbersome for people that just want broad stroke tips to get started.

  • Could you make a tutorial on rigging a gun?

  • Not a bad basic tutorial, however, that Ik setup and bone setup for a quadraped characer is very specefic. What really helped me out was the digital tutors rigging a qaudraped tutorial. Perhaps showing someone how to rig a robot or biped animal would be easier with the skillset you're displaying. Still, awesome that you're this far along at your age. keep it up man!

  • Great - Thank you!!! Have you a Tutorial where you define the moves of the skin, so that it is a bit more realistic? And a animation Tut too? Would be great. Thanks for sharing this.

  • @crashmidget15 Of course I'm mad, well not mad, but angry. If I were a newbie in rigging and see this as my first step in bone positioning, I would hate to build my knowledge, on things said form a guy who says it's the right way. The truth is he probably subscribed to a 3D magazine, a step by step tutorial came with the new issue and he made a video saying things as they were the truth, I just don't want false tutorials, that's all :) If he is the teacher, he should teach us the truth.

  • how to you redo a move and what is (delete by history)?

  • This tutorial sucks, you obviously dont know anything about rigging or if you do and just want to make it sound easy, dont skip details like explanation about the IK and FK handlers, also explain why you put those bones in this order, its because of the pivot Y floating topology. Naming everything is extremely important too, dont lie to people with shit like that, I bet 200% of the people who watched this, didnt get the same result...

  • @ikoif

    U mad bro?

  • Nice cat

  • >> 3:44 To get the perfect model of a cat: copy this model OR pierce your cat from the anus all the way throug to the head and 3d scan it !

  • @2ftpmarco Finally, I have found you. At last someone with common sense.

  • I used to use XSI and now im learning Maya, this video is really good if you know the basics of 3D rigging, thanks a lot!!

  • Thanks for the tutorial. After finishing my human model I've been trying to follow along on the more advanced biped tutorials but it's so over my head because they had to take the most complicated route, it's nice to see a video that kept it basic.

  • can some1 defind rigging?, i don't exactly know what it means?

  • @AussieRaver1996 Rigging is where you add a Skeleton to a model so you can animate it

  • @saraphite ty

  • rigging is harder then this tutorial makes it seem. Most of the time you have to understand the anatomy of the animal or human to make a rig in order to properly make one...

But really cool tutorial! Very informative. Thanks!

  • Nice Video Man, Got my first rig on the go! :) i started with another tutorial but the guy wasn't building a complex enough rig - it was only a leg, i needed to see how everything connects.

    thanx again!

  • 6:08 long cat

  • i heart u mate thanks so much

  • thanks

  • \o/

  • I'm a Max guy who's looking to make the jump to Maya for Film reasons. at least the animations and modifications to the Max models. Big learning curve. Thanks for keeping it simple enough :) Gave me enough to get motivated and started.

  • nice

  • How did you make your cat?

  • tbellaht

  • Comment removed

  • @Voikanaa if you are a student you can get a 3 year licence for all autodesk products for free

  • Great vid, but your voice is very low

  • messaging now..

hey he must be the good fellas

  • So what does the IK Handle tool do exactly?

  • @LadyYdera normally pivots only effect 1 hard pivot at a time.

an IK = inverse handle will move bones from the end up, the foot bone 'pulls' the whole arm, the whole leg.

normally pulling the last pivot of a handle will only effect that 1 bone.

IK makes them move more like a chain, more like you may "expect" them to move

    besides their robotic basics.

  • That fucking camera drives me nuts...god what is it taped to your head?

  • Im trying to rigg my character and I was just wondering how would you make the knees bend or the joints move around on your cat?

that would help me out a lot. thanks for the tutorial by the way.

  • i wanna make my job of this, i'm now 16 years old, i love doing this things.

  • On the autodesk site it says you need 4gb hard drive space to use the program, use 4gb external storage to solve this problem :S

  • @ 6:30

  • fuck you by :D

  • pretty cool. I'm taking a class on this next week. This video sure helps in giving me a early review. ^_^

  • very nice video i'll try it

  • 1 con, you just make the tail in 2 pieces but it has way more bones, and you did 5 for the hind legs, you should do 3 or max 4

  • Thank you very much! :D

  • Thanks men this video really help me alot.. easy too i got this like in 30 min,, and i just started using this program.. thanks

  • @Betoladodgers where did u get the maya software ?

  • @Betoladodgers where did u get the maya software from

  • @ahered00 i got it from a friend, he got it from a torrent free too

  • @Betoladodgers Illegal download! I got mine for a student discount for only 350 dollars, plus 6 other software, all 2010 versions! You need to prove you're a student, though. I got it at an academic site; all academic sites offer the same price of 350 dollars. I don't know if it's still available since the 2011 version came out.

  • @abviolin1 STFU.

  • what "P" key means in skeleton tools?

  • confuseing im only 11 :|

  • Is that cat in subdivisions?

  • My high school actually offers Maya course. it's a performing arts high school.

  • can you make a tutorial of how to create the cat itself?

even if that video is great though...

  • Hey man! Nice tuts! I haven't checked your channel yet, but can you do a tutorial about joint orienting??

    Ty!

  • can u make a video on how you made the cat

  • 5 people never watched animated movies as a kid

  • Awesome video .... I wanna learn how to do tat!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @jordana8899 my school didn't offer any courses but i took a 3-week course in it then self-taught myself with books and video tutorials

  • @mguild44 My school (Massachusetts) offers a great 3D graphics and enineering course. I learned Blender in fifth grade by my self and am now learning Maya in seventh. This and CAD programs are really important in our age.

  • @ThisOnesForReal I dont get it, sorry, but in norteamerican High School you learn 3d programs?

  • @lukassstyyy yeah there are lots of careers in these fields today

  • @mguild44 where did you get that cat

  • @mguild44 where did you take the class? I'm dying to learn more but I don't want to wait till college.

  • @jordana8899 Haha I went to Harvard during the summer to learn about Maya! ;)

  • Really really nice tutorial, really nice.

    Thank you =)

  • I just got this program, and I just wondered, how do you add skin?

  • @1stcynderfan

You can add skins with uv's, so just watch a tutorial to add uv's I bet they are up here somewhere in Youtube, You can also make fur with making several layers (probably also to be found on youtube)

  • @1987gemma1987

    Thanks!

  • awesome video!

If you guys want to see Autodesk Maya tutorials check out my channel! I'll also be posting advanced tutorials soon!

    -character modeling

    -architectural modeling

    -and advanced rendering

    to name a few

  • Veyr helpful ty!

  • How do you get to that four box view?

  • right....do you have a tutorial how to make a cat then...? :)

  • how did you get the cat shape and all that stuff? and i got maya 2011 so will it work on my wersion?

  • could you provide the model?

  • how you creat the models ???

  • awesome tutorial!! so im guessin the next step would be animation??

  • Very basic and straight forward tutorial... Thanks so much :D Make more!!! ;)

  • you cover the basis really well on this video. I especially like the stretch and squash and how flexible this rig is. Is there a video of this rig animated?

  • this was really usefull, thanks!

  • good tutorial! but have you ever seen a real cat? they have pretty much the same bone structure as us...

  • Thanks man. I have a test tomo and this helpd a LOT.

  • I have maya 2010 I cannot select polygonal faces when I right click and select face. Can somebody tell me what my problem might be?

  • Gay Tutorial Not Basic

  • Wow, that helps a lot. I'm making a character for a movie and was planning on manually scaling and moving his arms and all! This helps a lot, thanks.

  • why did you use multiple joints for the legs?

a cats bones wouldnt bend in a walk.. my opinion ;)

  • this was really, really helpful! youre a star!!

  • Hey dude, how do you make the cat.. i have no idea how to model anything :) thanks.

  • thanks is very good

  • very good tut

  • boring

  • can you make a tutorial on how you made the cat because I'm new to maya

  • thanks!

  • You are a great teacher, You have no idea how much watching your work has helped me.

  • be careful when mirroring the joint because maya is basically a large calculator when you mirror an image you maya is simply finding the negative to that joint(s) which may or may not mess maya's calculating later on. it's safer to just copy and paste. Just a hint. Also delete your history and freeze transformation to reduce bugs and fix image just in case.

  • Really great! It is a very important tutorial for beginner´s thank´s a lot.

    Please make more!

  • thanks, that helps alot

  • the only suggestion would be, drink 2 cups of coffee before the next tut!

  • nice dude.. how did you modeled the cat?

    tutorial plz

    =P

  • cool video...only thing missing is texturing and animating...maybe a walk cycle or something...maybe if u have time...let the cat jump off a tree LMAO

  • hey all your tutorials are useful, i just want you to make one about the cat, how did u model it???, and the use of hair, that would be nice too, thanks

    Regards from Costa Rica

  • can u tell me how to save maya file in .avi format?

  • have you noticed the 4 click boards on top (render) well, the fourth one it's render options, there you choose in Image Format then save it as Avi, although i don't have Avi. but have quicktime mov... which i like better...

  • Great basic tutorial vid. One thing I will caution you about is the creation of multiple bones on the IK chain. Notice that the bones will "curl" up - much like a scorpion tail. A cat doesn't have bones like that. You can either create multiple IKs for the paw/leg interaction or move the selector for the IK in component mode.

  • yeah, but we know that he is just demonstrating how to do it, i guess with more time and patience, it would look more realistic...

  • How can I start my animation ?

  • That would be another video ;)

  • first you have to get a Pen and Paper, make lots of sketches, a main idea, attracting characters, meaning, and then You can start...

  • how do you draw the cat?

    how do you model it?

can you please post a tutorial?

  • How do you texture it?

  • oh my god thank you. im paying 5000 dollars eevery 10 weeks to learn how to do this stuff. your showing me how to get ahead of the curb so well thank you SOOOO much.

  • perfect

but i have a problem with my maya

fatal error : when i put images in it maya says : fatal error (attempting to save in my documents.....)

    so what's worng????

  • verry nice tutorial

  • make it public so i can download it man

  • Great vid you broke it down nicely. I'm going to subscribe to see more projects :)

  • how did you get the cat wireframe in the first place?

  • Click Shading>>Smooth Shade All

  • Pressing 4 will take you to the wireframe

  • nice

  • very basic and very good tutorial. good work!

  • yep, thats why its called basic rigging....

  • @mguild44

    oooh good come back :P

  • @Baldoxxx4000 it's a basic rigg you spazz

  • @Baldoxxx4000 You sound like a fucking loser.

  • nice tutorial!

    I like it!

    Thank you

  • Great tutorial man Good job

  • well, its a very nice tutorial, but, it would be easier if you include the nurbe curves and the locators

  • Great tutorial.... Is it possible for you to show us how you created the cat wire frame.. Is it the same as the glass you made? thank you

  • cool...

  • Great tutorial! Thank you
