Wow. This is the first time I'm ever listened to this version of this song, one of my favorite Pixies tracks. It's so raw and the lyrics come through much clearer that the album version. I love both, but this one has a unique energy. It's hard and beautiful at the same time.

@orient1961 The funny thing is, that i don't think Euprates even runs through Israel, it's on the other side of Israel in fact, running through Syria, Iraq and Kuwait. Anyone care to prove me wrong?
@Followthategg it doesn't say the river Euphrates is in Israel. it says he's run out of gas in the Gaza strip, then it says he wants to ride the Tigris river down to the Euphrates.
@sofiabailote Right and there's a massive distance between Gaza and Tigris plus to get to the Tigris from Gaza you'd need to first cross the Euphrates. (If indeed Francis is saying Tigris and not tyre which wouldn't be surprising and lyrics websites are riddled with fails.)

This is definately a truely brilliant song, but in my opinion, the only version that really does it justice is the version from the 'subbacultcha' bootleg.
Obviously this version is still good, but i dont think that it is as good as it could be.
This one is punchier and more aggressive, and totally fucking amazing, but I still think that the album version is the most hauntingly beautiful song ever recorded.
Prefer the original .. you can't fault the production, drum sound and singing. This one is too slick and sounds more of its time where as the Surfer Rosa cut sounds fresh by virtue of the simple effective recording.
Is this the Brixton reunion gig? sounds like it. I know he's lost the top end here, but give him a break! it must have been a hard one to get up there after all that time.

i grew up on the pixies, i got all their albums awesome band.
its more about the songs than the music videos with metrosexual boys with japanese cartoons haircuts.
