I would hate to say it but he did inadvertently strike the A string on that D run. Even the best of musicians make a mistake every now and then. Leo accounts for his very few mistakes with his outstanding playing.
Kottke is the king of this kind of guitar, he started this in the early 70's after studying with John Fahey or whatever he did they were friends and Leo's first album is still the most sold of his albums.
@shadyspot1 Don't do it! (sell your guitars, that is). It is interesting how you can hear two performers who are, by objective standards, equally talented but one makes you want to give up and the other makes you want to go practice some more. It is a very subtle distinction. For you, Kottke does not invite you in to join him. There must be other guitarists who do. Atkins? Akkerman? Reed?
Leo is a great inpsiration...Whats funny is his face right after he hits a bad note at 1:01...right after the applause lol! He misses so few notes, its nice to know he is human!
all these guys with their arpeggios, schredding and god knows what...leo is the man...steadiest right hand in the business..

I really like his songs with lyrics. No doubt he's a phenominal instrumentalist..but his story telling style and voice are the best.

I wonder the width of the nut on that Olson is. Looks really narrow compared to the Taylors Leo usually plays.

I love what some dude says in the audience at the end:
"Yeah!"

This video takes me a lot closer to the awe-inspired opinion I had of the man when I was but 19. (I'm 43 now)

the thumb thing is so he has control of it and can mute with the bottom part of his palm

i don't believe that note is sour it's perfectly functional regardless of key mandates

It's not a bad note, you idiot! That's the face Leo uses when he's trying. No he's not human!

It's the face he uses when he's savoring the sound of his own music.

I am not an idiot..Ive been playing Leo's music for over 30 years now and I know it well. Trust me...its a bad note.

@89kids: So you're saying there are times when Kottke is indeed human? Yeah, right....
sovereignrebel 6 months ago
Actually, on second thought, I think it really may be a bad note, judging by his sudden reaction to it.

Leo uses a different part of his thumb for some reason, thats why it looks so stiff.
axisboldas 4 years ago
You should look at John Lee Hooker's thumb.
