  • I even saw an interview with Neil Gaiman saying how the countries where there were more pirating of this novels also had many more sales. So, old media and big corporations, are probably not gaining as much as they could if they stopped trying to squeeze every penny out of the old model and just let the new model thrive. Time and freakin' time again we have seen how change has been good for everyone, so why is there ALWAYS such resistance!

  • you are an incredible video blogger

  • Thanks! But you should see the unedited versions :P Thank god for editing software. On a live show you'd fall asleep :P

  • This makes a lot more sense than what it seemed like you were saying in your previous vid. I can definitely see your point, but I'm hoping for a best case scenario from this, that the bills weren't voted on, but that the protesting around this has radicalized some people who will be continue to protest the current corruption of our monetary systems in other ways. But perhaps that's overly optimistic. :/

  • I understand your feelings about SOPA/PIPA I even share them to a certain extent. All I was trying to say in my comment on yesterday's video was that we need to be vigilant against attacks on our freedom like that. Its true that those laws are impracticle for the most part but I also think they could easily be a stepping stone to the US adopting an internet policy more like the Iran, China or North Korea. We can't let that happen. Great video J.B :)

  • @grnlfe01 Thanks Sam :-) I think real change takes a little more than just avoiding pain. People need to feel the pain to finally uproar. That is not to say that I'm sorry that SOPA was withdrawn tonight. But as long as copyright laws are in place, this will come back to bite us in the rear.

  • I agree with you on most of the points you're making - people will always find ways of working around obstacles that are put in their path, especially when their freedoms are challenged - but I don't believe that people's reaction (had SOPA passed) would have proven things to the government any better than the online protests of two days ago did.

I also believe once they've had time to 'reconsider' SOPA, and attempt to try again, we won't have forgotten. If anything, we'll be better prepared. =)

  • Thanks for making this video - it certainly clarifies your point for people (myself included) who were a little fuzzy on where you stood with SOPA.

I think the main issue I had with your last video was that around 1 minute 50 you actually said the words "I'm not opposed to this whole SOPA, PIPA thing. I'm not opposed to it."

Whilst I understand what you were trying to say, especially now you've clarified that you're against it, it framed the rest of your argument in the wrong context.

  • @WikiRiffs I guess the irony of it all escaped some. At least it brings my point across much more powerful, once understood ;-)

  • @jbdazen Yup. Certainly does. On a lighter note, I've enjoyed discussing this whole issue with you here and on twitter over the last couple of days. Gives my brain muscles a workout!

  • @WikiRiffs Yup, that's the main purpose of a discussion. To think about stuff. To view it from different angles. Alas, some people seem to think of it as a battle that won't end until there's a winner. I generally dislike discussions with these people.

  • Your point is clearer and its a good point. Though we can hope that perhaps this will shake up people to the attention of internet censorship, Wikipedia against SOPA black out could hopefully lead to more people being aware about the slowly growing censorship and fight as you say.

I think people were (me included) objecting to the tone, uncertain what you meant as we knew u were against internet censorship and didn't like being told we where ridiculous!

    Good video. :-)

  • Keep giving us your opinions JB. I enjoy them. Glad you made BOTH videos!

  • You have more faith in humanity than me.
