Drexler could have easily had bigger numbers than the amazing ones he already has had he played for teams where he had to carry them more. Gervin played w/ Gilmore for several seasons, but Drexler played w/ Porter, Robinson, Vandeweghe, Kersey, and Duckworth. Then he played in Houston w/ Hakeem, Horry, Smith, etc
@Ldale11 offensively, Drexler wasn't a perimeter oriented guard the way Gervin was. He was bigger, & more athletic than Gervin, was a strong finisher near the hoop, but didn't have a good outside game like Gervin did. Gervin didn't really use tremendous athleticism, that's why he made it look easy, but as far as defense, & rebounding, Drexler was definitely much better. Overall, Drexler probably all around better, but his offense was more limited & restricted than Gervin's overall.
Ice is my favorite player of all-time. Loved watching him in his heyday. He was smooth yet fierce; a relentless scorer who scored baskets efficiently. Excellent basketball IQ, terrific offensive technique (worked angles, picks, and double teams expertly). He was also an underrated rebounder and passer (although his numbers in either were not high) -- people don't give him credit for those sneaky passes he gave out to James Silas and Mike Gale for drives to the bucket. Gervin = Legend.
