  • who is the lady with the harp ? why is she not being instructed by the conductor ?

  • @mintoo2cool Perhaps they rehearsed? It does happen you know?

  • Wonderful beat!! Often used as Rap Sample!

  • JEST MOC KURWA

  • bravo

  • That piece elevates my soul to the heaven.

  • @BeybladeUnboxer1 GUESS WHAT I CAN PLAY THIS ON VIOLIN VIOLA CELLO AND BASS XD

  • amaaazing !

  • I can appreciate Jenkins' desire to use something new, especially something as intriguing as the electric harp (which can sound amazing by itself), but I have to say that it sounds overbearing and awkward in this piece.

At the very least, it's far too loud and obtuse in comparison to the other beautiful sounds being made in this song. Just my opinion.

  • I think youtube's broken the audio keeps looping the same ten seconds over and over again. Is anyone else having this problem?

  • Like the harp. Not too keen on the lady wandering around with it!

  • @MsFraddy Your comment got me laughing hysterically -- I was thinking the very same thing before I read your comment. She looks dumb wandering around like she was kinda lost on stage...poor thing....she a very good harpist....just lost!!!!

  • No, take out the electronic harp and it's a great piece!

  • EXCELLENT!!!

  • The harp addition is beautiful. However, the visual presentation is ruined by this strange woman wandering about the stage looking confused and constipated and wearing a figure-skating costume with bell-bottomed pants.

  • Not only his compositions are great, he is an excellent conductor too.

  • Pls go to listen Harp in hands of Nicanor Zabaleta

  • I think it's a nice piece. I don't have a problem with the lady or her harp. Karl Jenkins was in Soft Machine in the 70s and has created music through the years. That said, everybody on youtube is entitled to their opinions, even haters and snobs.

  • watch?v=6lP7qy0FqUo&feature=channel_video_title

  • i.don't.understand. whats wrong with the harp

  • Karl knows what the hell he is doing, if he wanted the harp he is going to have the harp.

  • Oh please, the harp is fucking beautiful.

  • Why the fuck is everybody hating on the harp?

  • Time for a new video! Hooba Hooba Huba!

  • yeah.. i'd tap that...

  • The harp girl is the odd one out. I wish she had misstepped and plummeted in the orchestra pit! Why does she get all the undeserved glory and applause?

As though @3:23, Jenkins is angrily ordering after a long thought, "Alright, cut her down, mr. Fuller, she's no fun anymore!"

  • Any one else notice Dat ass?

  • Wait, is this song inspired by a other classical piece? I wonder if this is really his ...

  • Why the hell is she walking around? Sounds shyte.

Not just the electronic part. It sounds processed and garbage.

  • minecraft

  • Catrin makes it look so easy.

  • . Being a 50 plus welsh rocker, I have never been drawn to the harp ( probably going back to my schooldays in wales where we were subjected to the torture of having to listen to the music teachers swotty daughter performing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau in the St. Davids day concert). My perception of the harp totally changed after Listening to Catrin Finch playing Palladio. It totally blew me away. Thanks Catrin for opening the door to some brilliant music plus your pretty sexy on stage as well!

  • im playing this in orchestra (:

  • what the hell is this thing?

  • incomparable to violin version

  • Well, since Karl Jenkins tried very very hard to have Catrin play with his orchestra, I'll have to bow to his superior knowledge. When the persons objecting to the harp have composed such a piece of music, then they have a right to be critical. For me, I find this presentation remarkable.

  • @JoanNieri AMEN!

  • @JoanNieri lol I love how so many people think that, simply because the composer/artist introduced the concept, it must be pleasing to everyone.

Music is a very personal art, in that it means something unique to everyone. Saying something like, "when you do better I'll trust your opinion." is akin to what a child would say when his father told him he didn't do something well enough.

Everyone has a right to be critical. If you don't learn from other people's mistakes, you're an idiot.

  • nightmarerh

  • I'm such a nerd, but the harp makes this song sound even more like the song at Gerudo Valley in The Legend of Zelda- Ocarina of Time!

  • @ChristianOrtega123 Yes, yo're nerd. ROTFL.

  • Hahahaha

  • i like jedi mind tricks better

  • What a pity it's not in a better quality, because it is really beautiful.

  • She needs to sit the fuck down and stop hogging the spotlight

  • @18Chaos18: She's a soloist (in several different genres, as well). Traditionally, they do hog the spotlight. That's what you earn for becoming the best in your field.

  • wow chill people

i don't see why people can't use whatever darned instruments they WANT to use

can't say the harp sounds all that awesome but it's cool

  • i love the colour of the harp's sound! I know it doesn't appeal to purists like myself, but the colour is interesting!

  • parts of this seem to remind me of an ice-cream van... I can't quite place why...

  • ELECTRIC HARP!!!

  • Yeah, I'm sorry, the electronic harp is so overpowering that the piece actually loses the original quiet intensity it was meant to have.

  • Personally I think the understatment of the instruments in the piece is lost with having the electronic harp so prominant of all the instruments. When you listen to Palladio the instruments blend together beautifully, which makes the piece the joy that it is. With the electronic harp it loses something in my eyes and I really do not like it. Personal preference really.

  • I don't like the harp

  • The electric harp is needed so it can be heard. If you had a concert harp, you would not hear it. Plus, the electric harp is easier to carry. ( experience )

  • @zelly7azul Yeeep.... the best thing of this video are those 2 most rated comments xDDD

  • @chukas88 You're right, someone should have told Liberace to bedazzle a Yamaha Clavinova. After all that's the same thing as a Baldwin right?

  • I love how the two top rated comments are enemies.

  • the harpist is amazing, but i wonder why didn't they just use the perfectly ok acoustic harp standing right next to the conductor the whole time.

  • Desperately looking to buy this particular track, with no luck so far, can anyone let me know the details of this track?

    :)

  • BRAVO! Tune was Here!

  • this is just BEAUTIFUL. im having an eargasm!

  • I she stood still it would not be half as bad as she is making it !!!

  • I she stood still it would not be half as bad as she is making !!!

  • Wonderful composer makes me feel very emotional when I hear any of his compositions. What a fantastic gifted man. Who was the harpist, like it or not she is also very gifted..

  • @ken7ism the harpist is Catrin Finch. she's an amazing harpist.

  • This song sounds amazing in a classical guitar ensemble.

  • An electric harp has as much place in orchestral music as a Tiffany crystal chandelier in a mobile home. Blasphemy.

  • I loved your comment....It is so true!

  • @pmpddybwnsgr Hmm who should I trust? the composer of this piece who allowed and probably wanted electric harp, or some random guy in the internet with a very narrow mind who doesn't like it?

  • @pmpddybwnsgr agreed, it sounds extremely out of place

  • @pmpddybwnsgr lol

  • @pmpddybwnsgr Whatever makes you think it's an electric harp? It's a traditional Welsh harp with an acoustic pickup. Look up Catrin Finch on Wikipedia for some background on who she is.

  • @aigphoto actually it is purely electric, as u may have not noticed there is no sound box...something all acoustic instruments posses

  • @JACKSONGUITARDUDE: What kind of sound box do you have on a harp or lyre?

  • @pmpddybwnsgr You probably couldn't have handled Mozart introducing the celeste in the Magic Flute. But there are pin heads with tin ears in all cultures.

  • @pmpddybwnsgr oh how now, whats that behind Katrin. why i do believe it full-size, acoustic, orchestral harp. get a grip you prick. you got as much need to life as the pope has to condom.

  • @pmpddybwnsgr Music is a living flowing and ebbing thing, getting stuck in your ways limits it as an entity and prevents new sounds, old classical is still there, nobody is making you listen to this. The piano was once new, and people had your opinion on it, look now, a whole wealth of orcheastal arrangements formed around it.

Don't criticise music's evolution, watch it, and enjoy the new entity that forms from the old, without prejudice, if you can change as music does, this will be easy.

  • @SquareEyes642 Okay so this is a new sound? This is evolution? This "work" is a ten second tune (0:10 to 0:20) repeated over and over again, linked together by simple transitions and tiny variations of the same ten second tune. It is as if one took a piece from 200+ years ago, and stripped out everything save for one little melody. In terms of the "sound", there is nothing new. This piece is the opposite of musical evolution. It brings nothing new, and is less creative than what it imitates.

  • @billy8715345 Well, music does not have to be "new" to be good. And "good" has nothing to do with "liking" or "disliking" it. I may very well like a song by ZZ Top, even tough their playing, singing and even composing is ridiculously bad! Quality, depth and durability of music is measured beyond the insight of the average listener.

  • But, you are probably right, this is not at the top of Jenkins works. Nevertheless he sure is a genius and will still be listened, performed and studied long after we will all be gone!

  • @SquareEyes642 I'm unsure if you're aware, but certain people dislike/like certain things. It's impossible for you to tell someone to listen to something 'without prejudice.' Their personality IS their prejudice.

And if you think that any of those instruments would exist without a critical eye, you're horribly wrong. Pride in one's instrument (and somethings, hate for another) can be one of the most influential factors in the creation of music. It is not to be critical of "music's evolution."

  • @SquareEyes642 PS: Just because something happened does not mean that it was not a mistake. Appreciating "music's evolution" is to appreciate all the trial and errors involved. People need to be critical if they ever hope to better themselves.

Your public school mentality won't get you far in life.

  • @KoH4711 Public School mentality? Certainly an interesting way of putting 'respect for having repect for the composers desiscions with thier own music' and its not the persons tastes I criticise it is the instant dimsmissal of a new thing just because it is new, I, equally to thier distaste of the e-harp, dislike that attitude.

Also my 'mentality' has served will well thus far and I have no intention of changing it for a whining you-tuber who doesn't like my way of putting things.

  • @SquareEyes642 res[ect for having respect, Don't worry I hit myself for that one.

  • @pmpddybwnsgr Did you type this onto Youtube yourself or have an amanuensis chip it onto a stone tablet and courier it to their offices instead? What a load of bollocks.

  • @pmpddybwnsgr Ignorant conservator

  • @pmpddybwnsgr ur joking right. in wat universe does an electric harp have a place in an orcestra??? it dosent, thats the only answer.

  • @pmpddybwnsgr

    Nana!

Blasphemy! Better you recognize you live in the 21th century.

There are people who say Jenkins is Blasphemy: "classical music for advertising"!

  • @pmpddybwnsgr

sorry but this sounds somewhat retarted. Electric Instruments can be a great addition!

  • What a show off...1:27 min... if you haven't noticed a mistake...

  • @nikoracy That's not a mistake, it's just a variation...

  • in my opinion this song is great and if you listen to it enough times the harp grows on you just enough.

  • Buenissimaaaa!!!!!!

  • Very few of you may have noticed, but at certain points you can see a random, uninvited and utterly uncalled for woman wearing a slutty top and ruining the show wielding a child's toy harp on stage.

  • @CalamityCain very few of you may have noticed. but at certain points you can see people complaining in the comment section about how a harpist is ruining a beautiful piece. get over it.

  • @superleetninja

    Tsk! Buzzkill...

  • @CalamityCain please do fuck off, i'm guessing you're over 60 and have lived surrounded by stuck up fucks all your life.

  • @ezrussia

Nope, I'm 25. 60 year old guys aren't as funny as me. It should be an easy way to remember - even for someone who's so devoid of any intelligence as you are, my good sir. Now please stop feeding the 25 year old trolls and enjoy this song, if you still can.

  • @CalamityCain i don't understand how wearing a slutty top has to do with listening to music and why are you concerned with what she is wearing just enjoy the music

  • @noddles3000

Alas, you choose to ignore my beautiful sarcasm, my good Sir. I don't really give a damn, what she's wearing. I only wrote that part about the slutty top, because, at that time, it seemed like a neat little accessory to my initial statement. Which still stands of course: The core of my conclusion was supposed to be, that - in my opinion - her weird techno-harp-thingy ruined a perfectly fine performance by the rest of the orchestra. And that sucks. 'Tis as simple as that.

  • Luv it!! :)

  • ya no sé si me "molesta" tanto el hecho de la cosa esta eléctrica o el paseo que se marca la tía por el escenario JAJAJAJAJA

  • I also agree about the harp

  • I agree that the electric harp ruins this song, however Catrin Finch is an amazing harpist!

  • Why all the whinging about the harp? The composer is right there conducting the orchestra. If he did not want the electric harp, then he would not have had it. The music is being played the way he wants it, and if you don't like it, it is just too bad.

  • @nindojibwe the fact that the composer wants something in his piece doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing.

  • "On The Eve of War"-Jedi Mind Tricks... lol

  • Konducts by Karl Jenkins Himself Oh My Goddddddddddddd Very Very Good

  • Konduc by Karl Jenkins Himself Oh My Goddddddddddddd Very Very Good

  • that is a guest artist on the harp. catrin finch is a good harpest and has other videos on youtube.

  • wooowww... amazing song 0_0

  • from 3:06 to 3:16 the best 10 seconds of the composition where the electric harp is not playing

  • @CapYuri

Are you implying that Catrin is not the best Harpist there is

  • @maidofneworleans i said when the electric harp is not playing, not when she is not playing!

  • @CapYuri But Catrin is playing the electric harp

  • @maidofneworleans oh god! what's the problem? i just don't like the elctric harp in this music!!

  • Comment removed

  • What does it take to become a concert trianglist?

  • We played this in my high school chamber orchestra. Although, the harp part was my violin solo. Its much better as a violin playing.

  • all of the sudden I feel like buying a diamond!!!!

  • Thank heavens she didn't play a grand piano - her poor back :o(

  • Electric Harp makes this piece sound so crappy and weird.....

  • How can you screw up your own beautiful composition this badly?

  • like the sound of electric harp very well played by catrin but palladio is a masterpiece loved by many so maybe karl could wave his magic wand to create an original future favourite for her karen A

  • Harp was good till the end when I thought it was a bit too loud and overpowering.

  • catrina finch.......mamlsteen of the harp!!!!!

  • @sorcererify - Now that comment really did make me LOL, ta.

  • omg, he messed it up with the electric harp. You're amazing karl jenkins but you gotta stop pullin shit like this.

  • porcata

  • Who ever thinks the electric harp is killing it has no taste in music.

  • @justinshere2 I agree

  • @justinshere2 I think its not the right sound for this particular song. and being a person who has been playing the violin in several orchestras and years. I believe that I have ever right to that opinion.

  • the harp is annoying and destroys everything..

  • @87Avantgarde you destroy everything

  • either way the song still ROCKS

  • First time for me hearing this song. I liked the harp. Could be I'd like another version more. But this was cool. Jim

  • the marching harp is beast!!!

  • Catrin Finch's harp performance in Palladio will be featured on our top ten blog. Hopefully we are not violating copyright.

  • Catrin Finch's Harp is the element of this performance that makes me come back again and again. So brilliant. I loved it. I love the piece as it is. However, with the harp added, the piece becomes truly heavenly.

  • Catrin Finch's harp is the thing that brings me back again and again to this version of Palladio. Just brilliant.

  • Harp completely ruined it.

    Epic fail.

  • Electric Harp - Hmmm. Im at liberty to love both old and new classics. Suspect that Armed Man will be played in a thousands yrs - but not this

And to DevilWilliam8 - who the hell is heiden? Suspect you're on to a haydn to nothing with that post....
