@GIBLETSOFFLESH of course, genre labelling can get a bit fuzzy at the edges and confusing, but i still think it's necessary. if you try and boil everything down to 3 genres (which, even considering the vast generalisation required, still cannot cover even a fraction of everything out there), what we end up getting is under the same label of "metal", bands like Sunn O))) and Tankard being compared to each other. And you cannot tell me that Sunn O))) and Tankard are anything alike.
@GIBLETSOFFLESH okay, so Sunn O))) and Tankard are both cool, but still in just saying everything's either rock, metal or hip hop, that forces bands like Whitechapel, Bring Me The Horizon, Torsofuck, Corrosion of Conformity, Rammstein, and Mayhem all into the same boat. Now if that literally happened, there would be a massive shitstorm and alot of broken noses... and a few dead people.....
@rabbitspliff Sunn O)))? I still haven't heard them. I keep trying to check them out, but everytime I look them up on youtube, my computer just makes this buzzing noise like a broken refrigerator or something. Wierd.

love torche, love floor, why does everyone call these guys 'doom' or 'sludge' pop. They have slow songs but i would hardly consider torche doom or sludge and certainly not pop. What happened to good rock bands
Certainly not doom, I can hear elements of sludge (heavily distorted guitar), but I'd say they're stoner if anything. They're good. They're about to play a tiny venue in Barcelona this month, I'll be recommending it to everyone.
This shit fucking sucks. Listen to Electric Wizard, Sunn 0))), Eyehategod, Kyuss, Sleep, Acid King, sHeavy, Weedeater, Earth, Pelican, Isis, etc etc. Good Stoner/Doom metal.
@ripdimebag6969 you're an idiot. This band is on Aaron Turner's label. You know, the guy who started ISIS and signed pelican.... Torche is awesome, rather than just being a sludge or stoner rock band, they combine tons of genres, doom, stoner, sludge, arena, poprock, etc. These guys are awesome.
@pukeoncops123 no, i like torche because they make great music. I pointed out that they were on hydrahead because the guy i was replying to was telling people to ignore torche and instead to go listen to isis and pelican. torche is fuckin loud live. My ear drums are still blazing from seeing them in august. In Return is a great record. Speaking of Floor, the Dove split is the best stuff they did. As for the haters, Torche combines stoner style harmonics with alot of sludge and drone, its like a fuckfest between The Melvins, Pink Floyd, and Nebula. if you missed that, your ears are not trained for the sludge viking that just plowed your ass.

Thayil actually loves this band...the dude from torche said they played in seattle and kim came up to him and said that he loved em and that he actually reminded him of himself
This band rocks very very hard. I listen to alot of "Metal" and do read Decibel Magazine myself. They were spot on, with giving this band album of the year. It's a solid Doom-Rock album from the beginning to the end.
It's original and different. I think the voice goes surprisingly well with the music. Besides, there's plenty of sludge metal with growled vocals out there (ie pretty much all of it) for you out there. Torche just sorta' does their own thing.
Nah man, this is good music. You can't classify a band and say they suck because they don't fit your classification. That's like saying Beyonce is supposed to be black metal and then saying she has the wrong "dance moves" or some random shit. Fool.
Well to be fair, Beyonce isn't black metal, and previous work of hers wouldn't lead one to believe she is, but Torche does have a lot of sludgier stuff, but they've always had a good balance of poppier stuff and sludgier stuff...ever since the first album.
i wanted to check these guys out because of them beating OPETH in decibals album of the year spread. decibal is supposed to be an extreme music magazine...and this is the band that gets album of the year? riiiight.
I've had this song stuck in my head since last night. I even went out looking for the CD today, but I couldn't find it (grr)! Could you do us a favor and upload the rest if you have it, please?
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks this band is starting to sound an awful lot like the Foo Fighters. I had a chance to see Floor (singers 1st band) years ago in Detroit and they sounded very much like the melvins. Then I saw Torche a few times and was blown away, but with each successive release they're sounding more and more "radio friendly" and to me thats a bad thing.
i hope you're referring to some OTHER band called the Foo Fighters, and not the one fronted by Dave Grohl... because if you were referring to them you probably need a hearing aid of sorts....
I totally agree centralscrutinizer66, his assessment here is spot-on. I was a latecomer to the Floor stuff, loved it, then I totally embraced the first Torche album, it was my fave shit, then, like centralscrutinizer66 says here, each successive release sounds more & more like the Foo Fighters.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
These guys suck so much shit live. I was hoping they'd be better on the album versions, but I was wrong. It's just lame ass shit:Boring guitars, generic pop punk vocals, bad song structure.
I'm starting to think I saw them on an off night or something.
Maybe it's becuase they put too many Floor covers in between their actual songs, maybe because the singer told the soundguy to turn the vocals way down(which weren't bad)
Or maybe because they came after the stinking lizaveta, who were so amazing.
It's probably because of that.
I mean, how do you top the Stinking Lizaveta?
And how was boris?
I missed the show in gainesville because my van broke down.
that picture was taken at a halloween show in syracuse ny. it was when they toured with kylesa a couple years ago. the pa died and they played a monumental instrumental set (including a few floor covers).
Kim Thayil? To me it's straight Billy Corgan. That solo sounds like it came off the Zwan record. (That's not trash talking - I actually liked that album).
Sounds like Foo Fighters stole Cavity's guitars. In other words, great guitar tone, shite songs. Everything these guys release sounds exactly the fucking same.

This sounds like The Melvins crossed with The Smashing Pumpkins. Thanks for uploading this.

I've had this song stuck in my head since last night. I even went out looking for the CD today, but I couldn't find it (grr)! Could you do us a favor and upload the rest if you have it, please?

I saw these guys on the 13th with Pelican. very good show, I recommend seeing both these bands live.
I also got the privilege to speak to Juan Montoya after the show, very nice guy. Also very good guitar player.

fukkin awesome going to see them in glasgow with pelican on 14/009/09. i think that the solo in this track is fukkin sonically perfect.

I saw boris live and these guys were playing with them. They seemed pretty good.

This sounds like early soundgarden more than the melvins or foo fighters they've been compared with.
Nezaru 3 years ago
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks this band is starting to sound an awful lot like the Foo Fighters. I had a chance to see Floor (singers 1st band) years ago in Detroit and they sounded very much like the melvins. Then I saw Torche a few times and was blown away, but with each successive release they're sounding more and more "radio friendly" and to me thats a bad thing.
centralscrutinizer66 3 years ago
Too many bands sound like the melvins, though.
It's a cliche sound.
Nezaru 3 years ago
i hope you're referring to some OTHER band called the Foo Fighters, and not the one fronted by Dave Grohl... because if you were referring to them you probably need a hearing aid of sorts....

Nope, thats the one. Don't feel bad for not understanding music, alot of people don't.
centralscrutinizer66 3 years ago
good music is good music. you sound like a close-minded twat.
shayeasy 3 years ago
I totally agree centralscrutinizer66, his assessment here is spot-on. I was a latecomer to the Floor stuff, loved it, then I totally embraced the first Torche album, it was my fave shit, then, like centralscrutinizer66 says here, each successive release sounds more & more like the Foo Fighters.

These guys suck so much shit live. I was hoping they'd be better on the album versions, but I was wrong. It's just lame ass shit:Boring guitars, generic pop punk vocals, bad song structure.
Nezaru 3 years ago
Fair enough if you didn't enjoy them live... But they are pretty fucking far from pop-punk and generic! Very good band, amazing album.

They're growing on me the more I listen to them.
But they're a little self concious live.
The one thing I will admit is they have the coolest shirts ever.
And Juan's little note and drawing of himself on the tip jar was cool.
Nezaru 3 years ago
you are fucking retarded.
i just saw them with boris and they were incredible. probably one of the best live bands i've ever seen.
shayeasy 3 years ago 4

So well constructed. That solo is beautiful.

Excellent album. Grenades and Across the Shields have been the soundtrack for the last few weeks of my life.
The last minute or so of this song reminds me so much of Soundgarden. It could literally be Kim Thayil playing the solo.
xTheOxx 3 years ago
Kim Thayil? To me it's straight Billy Corgan. That solo sounds like it came off the Zwan record. (That's not trash talking - I actually liked that album).
