I like how everybody says its vista. NO SHIT DUDE! 7 was based off of vista, if you don't remember, so there is no reason the 7 PREBUILD wouldn't look like vista. What you see now in windows 7 is the end result of testing and dropping ideas, like this one.

Yes, it's because this is a prototype built in Flash. This is how Microsoft, "plays around" with visuals before developers spend the time trying to get this stuff to actually work in a real build. The clock skips because it takes time to create and compile visuals like this. When they exported the demos to one video, there are sections they used from various times throughout. Watch my other two videos to see what I'm talking about when I talk about internal mock-ups/prototypes. Same thing.

No, it's not Linux. It's a prototype made internally by Microsoft while brainstorming what they were going to add into Windows 7. Have you ever seen any of the old Longhorn prototypes before Windows Vista? Not many of those effects/animations made it into Vista. The same is the case here.

Correct. It's a prototype made within Microsoft before development began for 7. It was made in a 3D program, like Macromedia director. They don't develop ideas into builds to see what they're going to look like. They do it in graphics programs beforehand. In this case, Vista was the existing OS they had to prototype over since the UI for 7 hadn't been developed yet.

Maybe one day, but Microsoft has been coming up with some really great and ambitious UI ideas like these for quite some time and none of the truly astonishing effects/transitions ever seem to make it. Kind of a bummer, but... maybe one day!

That's exactly the point, ComputerHelpGuy1. Have you ever seen any of the old Windows Longhorn conceptual UI videos? Most of that didn't go into Windows Vista. Perhaps you're not seeing this chronologically as you should: This concept was created by one of Microsoft's UI folks before Windows 7 development even started, which, yes, means this is old. The whole point of it is to show some of the ideas Microsoft had for the UI of what would become Windows 7. None of this made the cut, obviously.

It's not content in an actual build; it's a conceptual UI developed over a static Vista desktop image of possible ideas for what would become Windows 7.

aly369: I encourage you to look around my site and see that I do indeed have plenty of, "real" news. Likewise, this is not fake. How do you think Microsoft comes up with their user interface? They have concepts mocked up before development on the OS actually starts. Typically, these mock-ups are done on the most current OS at the time; in this case, Windows Vista. Go download an early build of Win7 and tell me what it looks more like; how Win7 does now or Vista-like? Therein lies your answer.

GeekAronnax: I wish I made that! hahaha. It was created by one of Microsoft's UI developers. I just managed to get a hold of it and make it public. Do you think we'll see this in the RTM build? Or was this just scrapped because of some unkown reason. I think they should atleast make it an option, it would blow OSX away (ui wise). Many people will like these kind of things, and it seems to work great in that early build..

dannydeman: No, no luck seeing any of it in RTM. There were many, many concepts like this for Longhorn and none the neat effects made it into Vista or 7. I definitely acknowledge that there are people out there who would love this stuff (heck, I'd like to see it from time-to-time), but I ultimately don't think it's realistic for the majority of their user base. That's just my opinion, though.
