It's horrible, I've noticed it on both of my tablets as well. So it's not just on phones. It's just not able to keep up. I've got Swype on my galaxy tab 10.1 and on my gsm galaxy nexus because it couldn't keep up either.
You don't always have to type that fast for there to he noticeable lag. I installed Swype on my GN and it's been the best Swyping experience ever on a phone.
Easy fix: Settings > Language & Input > *Disable "Spelling Correction" at the top under "Language"*.
You will still have auto/spelling corrections though because there's a seperate option for it in the keyboard settings. I'm not sure what the Language option does.
@acquaz10 Sure, it might take that long but the thing is that the RAZR doesn't have this problem, the Galaxy Nexus does. Besides, Motorola and Verizon have done a pretty good job with updates so far. Just look at the one that came out today.
@RockoYourSocksoff Hell yeah they do. I had 4 droid Xs and a Droid 2 global. They were so buggy and horrible, I had to ditch them. Now, I'm enjoying some stock Google, Ice Cream Sandwich epicness :)
@RockoYourSocksoff Yeah. I remember when I first got my X and it had 2.1 (which was Eclair, I think) it was freaking awesome. I loved it. After Froyo, life sucked.
Same on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus! Even the Update (4.0.2) doesnt fix it! And there are even more problems!

This is why I only buy phones that have physical keyboards. Droid 3 (and Droid 4 soon) FTW!

Onscreen buttons should disappear or be minimized when doing anything other than the homescreen.

Must say I haven't experienced this with my GN.

Yeah, I noticed this, switched to SwiftKey and the problem went away.

The fix is already up on Droid Life and it's super simple.

Does this happen with 3rd party keyboards too or just the ICS one?

Seems like this phone is having a lot of issues. So glad I waited and didn't get this phone.

@RockoYourSocksoff I upgraded from a Samsung Fascinate so anything's better than the updates on that.

@Zricon15 True.

I'm sure there will be an update soon to fix that lag there usually is. But anyway I don't type that fast so it doesn't affect me.
theSilverBullet1100 2 months ago
The fix is to turn off a feature of the keyboard? Fail.
RockoYourSocksoff 2 months ago
I thought you meant serious lag like the kind on my droid 1. This isn't a big deal to me.

@Zricon15 Maybe for the Razr, but Moto sucks donkey balls for updates. Just ask the Droid 2, Droid X, Droid 1 owners.

@DroiDxFanboyx I agree. They ruined those phones with the Gingerbread update. It's so buggy.

@DroiDxFanboyx I always had Froyo. Keyboard was lightning quick and accurate. Gingerbread came and it turned it into a lagging pile of crap.
RockoYourSocksoff 2 months ago
I don't think I can type that fast lag or not. I use SwiftKey anyway.

So glad that I chose the DROID RAZR instead.
Zricon15 2 months ago
@Zricon15 If this was a problem on the Razr then it would take Moto and Verizon 6 months to fix it. I'm sure Google is already working on a fix.
acquaz10 2 months ago
@acquaz10 yes the fix is to scrap Java and get some .NET. android fail.
