  • Wow - I dated this guy in 74 or around that time. Met him at Mesa College in San Diego. He had a sister named Linda and a brother Charlie. Norman Umberson was his name. His dad was retired military, a very nice man. His mother had an accent, was from Europe. Funny to see this.

  • Went to Long Beach High School with him in the class of 1971.....name is Norman Umberson.

  • My best friends dad was the bass player

  • or was in the band

  • My dad is in this band!!!

  • I played golf with this guy a few weeks ago. Awesome!!

  • Awesome shit

  • Just found this - thanks! I've had the 6 song LP from 1983 this is on since around 1994 - I'm in San Diego- was going to post this song next week! A drummer I played with in my 1st band did some studio work for Norm.

  • PLEASE post the album art--have the record but no cover, and I need the pic for my iPod!

  • @bassandguitarguy Too funny, my ex-girlfriend and I shot the back album cover. The one with him standing with his hand in his pocket. The reason was because we shot the pic in November in her driveway with the backdrop hanging on her garage door. It was pouring down rain and freezing cold.

  • hey Heather its your cousin Brian! Norm Norman is my uncle and he still rocks! my mother, Linda is his sister. I am glad to be his nephew!

  • Norm Norman is actually my father and he still rocks harder than ever! Loved this video ever since he showed it to me when I was a little girl.

  • How cool. Tell your dad that he rocks and that I think he is very underrated.

  • Steve West just played this on 91X's Resurrection Sunday and verified what Poodlette said. He's a local San Diegan. Don't know much more about him though. :)

  • Steve West is STILL at 91X?? Man, he was there when I was in high school (Santana, class of '85).

I've been hearing this song in my head for YEARS, just waiting for the day when I might hear it again with my ears. YouTube is like a friggin gold mine of memories.

  • We'll find out where Norm Norman is. I think Steve West floated around between 91X and the other new alternative rock station (sorry, I don't live in SD anymore so the name escapes me). Steve West is a staple. I recall shows from jr high/high school (Bonita Vista, class of '86) such as Reggae Makosa, Paradise on the Rocks, and I forgot the name, but they had a show on Monday night that played 5 unknown songs, everyone called in to vote and then that song was heavily played for the next week.

  • I believe Norm Norman was from San Diego, CA. This song was heavily played on 91X when I was growing up and I vaguely remember the DJ's mentioning he was a local guy. I think he only put out an EP in 1983 and that was it.

  • Yeah, there was a summer when 91X used to play this song all the time.

    Good tune, too.

  • OMG WHERE the hell did you find this? I saw this ONCE on MTV back in 83' and waited for it again and never saw it - THANKS for taking me back in time for this GREAT piece of nostalgia!

  • wow i can't believe someone else out there remembers the Meadowbrook, I was a junior at Bloomfield HS and we used to see the Cramps, Billy Idol, Psychadelic Furs etc.... at the meadowbrook, back in the day when new wave, punk, hardcore, rockabilly all that fun stuff. wow aren't getting old? but isn't fun to remember those were great times in the early 80's at the meadowbrook with the big screen, the dance floor and the second floor walkway that surrounded the dancefloor. Thanks for the memory

  • i saw the romantics there in 1983.

  • oh my god i cant believe i found this. i used to go to a club in Cedar Grove called "the meadowbrook" in 1982 when i was a senoir at Glen Ridge. this video was always playing on the big screen.

  • In New Jersey by the way.

  • Ahhhh, I live a block away from the Meadowbrook. Remember when it was a Disco in the 80's. Only lasted a few months. 2 Wild ! Kept the C.G.P.D. hopping all the time!

  • I've been waiting for someone to post this one thanks much. There was a local UHF TV show (in Chicago)that featured new wave videos and music acts in the early 80's
