  • original is the best! but this cover is BOWIE!2nf best!!!! nothing more to say!!!! thx all be nice ne kind be fair!

  • I don't like the ay she sings this, of course she's a great singer, but she took away the outwordly atmosphere of the original.

  • wow...thanks for posting this i love david bowie and laurie anderson.

  • This song expresses our struggle w/ false divides between Male/Female Nature/Technology Material/Spiritual - mistakenly called "The War of Good vs Evil" w/labels changing contextually. Patriarchal religion calls Women & Material Reality "evil" (Hence: Eve & Maat). Pagans cry foul on Materialism, "Male" Aggression and any Spiritual idea that makes mortal life an agony. The lost balance is: Yin-Yang/Sun-Moon/Chalice-Blade (BTW, Bowie=Blade :-). "Sympathy for the Devil" struggles w/ this as well.

  • The original O Superman by Laurie Anderson is a New Wave/Avant-garde Performance Art icon and masterpiece. If you don’t like the original, you probably don’t even know what Performance Art is, who Laurie is, and you probably don't know that it was part of Laurie’s monumental 2-3 day performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 1983. If you weren’t there when O Superman came out in 1981 and can’t appreciate the unmitigated GENIUS that it STILL IS, more’s the pity, and your loss.

  • @danagirl23... now THAT's an interesting thought. Maybe we'll get a chance some day. I wonder if he takes requests :)

  • This is amazing, I had no idea that Bowie covered this song. Two brilliant musicians/composers/creators. So hot.

  • @kphag

    totally agree

    I <3 David Bowie

  • Have you heard the live Laurie Anderson version where David Bowie comes out as a guest for this?? AMAZING!!!!!!

  • awesome. on a sidenote, i wonder what bono would have done with it.

  • @pmc40 You know why no one at your pub likes it? because it's a PUB! What reason would pub goers want to listen to that song? And yes you're right... No one likes the original because you've obviously asked the entire world and they all elected you to be their spokes person. Quit trolling cause you look like an idiot. Why would you say that? You never asked me if I liked it. That being said this is a good version and I like it just as much even though it's completely different.

  • holy shit.

  • O Stella Street!

  • wish ther was a single release of this , no one likes the original by laurie anderson when i play it on any jukebox in my local pubs n one of them actually had it taken off lol

  • @pmc40 wot a load of BS you talk

  • WOW! What a great cover of one of my all time favorite works by Laurie Anderson. I'm sure she would be pleased. David and Gail Ann Dorsey did a great interpretation.

  • Before there was T-pain, there was Laurie Anderson

  • Not thta I was ever a David Bowie fan, but he does a pretty neat rendition of this Laurie Anderson classic

  • desconhecia totalmente esta versão do bowie. awesome!

  • WOW. I heard the original today on NPR...had heard it many times before. I love Laurie Andersons work....but this blows me away. They are both sooo beautiful. I have no words! Thank you!

  • David Bowie is (here) only the second voice, the singer is Gail Ann Dorsey, she's his bassist.

  • ...SHIT...!

  • The original is one of the most compelling things I've ever heard, but this cover is good. A great repackaging of a pretty darn difficult song. Gail sings it very well.

  • Here come the planes, love Bowie just tossing them back, nice.

  • Wow times 2

  • great upload, sound qaulity is very good for a live recording

  • HA! Way to go, David Bowie! Love it! I must admit that it doesn't give me goosebumps like the original, but it's still pretty damn cool!

  • RESPECT Laurie..., but one M00:00RE time

  • the original recorded performance by Laurie Anderson is amazing. Does not surprise me that Bowie is covering this. a welcome surprise to me with overlapping interests.

  • the original recorded performance by Laurie Anderson is amazing. Does not surprise me that Bowie is covering this.

  • MOM is not always what She seems 2 B

  • Thanks so much for posting this beautiful and compelling video, as always, David Bowie and Gail Ann Dorsey make magic together. (and the part where he throws the paper airplanes, so cute, I love it ) There is a Super Man and his name is David Robert Jones. : )

  • @Scoobydoonut Who's that?! ;)

  • This is great, and by far not boring. It is built up very well. To me the nine and a half minutes seem like ony three. Gail Ann and David are doing a great job with this cover.

  • It's an interesting twist on the original. I still like the original for what it is - a beautifully eclectic piece.

  • They did a really good job on this! Love the original too :)

  • @MrJuno6 Why would you say the original is crap? Obviously Bowie even likes it or he would not be covering it. To say the original is crap is the same as degrading Bowie's reason for covering it.

  • very good but realy now, David should call Laurie on stage for this one.

  • this is the boring version. i expected better from David Bowie.

  • And David Bowie steel acting

  • Laurie Anderson's version is tough to beat because it's the original, but this comes pretty close, especially with Dorsey's vocals

  • @Worldslargest349 I concur. Laurie Anderson's rendition is pretty hard to eclipse. I have to admit, though, this version is very danceable. By the way, have a super day! Okay?

  • Thanks for posting this superb cover. He even pays homage to the long white shirts from her video Home of the Brave.

  • great

  • This is Triumphant!! It gives a new twist- airy, transcendent, ethereal!!

  • is he really playing the saxophone? I mean, is there coming any proper sound out?

  • This is the most obscure cover I've ever heard in my life. Bowie does a decent job at it too.

  • I love Bowie but this concert is gay as hell

  • @jacksok2 David Bowie and Gay together? NEVAR!

Ziggy Stardust, stupid. It's a good t hing.

  • who is she??

  • @bobyoung86 Gail Ann Dorsey - What a Great job she does! Cheers

  • Thanks for posting this! Rules!

  • Very strange ! What was his aim ? And whats with the "shimy" he does across the stage at 2:55 ????

  • In the first part it's obviously inferior to Laurie's version, but when the drum'n'bass kicks in, it adds the song an added dimension. Granted, the song doesn't need it, but the purpose of remixes and reworks IS change, right?

  • @logossun what it doesn,t need? you,r crazy. This is masterpiece!

  • terrible!!!!!

  • Epic fail!

  • BELLISSIMOOOO..thanks

  • I saw this number in L.A. Universal Amphetheater, been in hundreds shows, this also ranks for me top 10 easy. Great tour "Earthling"

  • she is beautiful

  • this is just wrong.

  • Hi Mom!

  • I like it, but i prefeer laurie's version.

  • As a drum'n'bass DJ i really love that David is into this music. True artist!

  • Show could be almost anywhere, but I do remember seeing the stop in San Francisco in September '97. One of the best shows I've seen EVER. Went both nights and I've been to about 1000 concerts. This ranks!

  • WOW!!!!!!....absolutely gorgeous.

  • Thank you for posting this! I haven't heard this since seeing it live in '97!

  • I didn't know he covered this

  • Yep, I think they performed it consistently during the Earthling tour. At least they did it both nights in Detroit. Those were some truly fantastic shows.

  • Is that Bowie Playing Sax?

  • Yep, that's Bowie on sax.

  • What an interesting piece of trivia.

    Thank you for the response

  • From Shepherds Bush empire Tao Jones Index 1997? good to see this on here x

  • i was at the shepherds bush gig ,,it was amazing
