  • this is turkish classical music ad scott is singing in turkish! I don't think it sounds like arabic music at all. Maybe clarinet and darbuka is used in both but especially kanun is certainly a turkish instrument only!

  • @sbpoly Kanun is used in Persian area also (Probably ouds and kanuns basis are persian)

    Baglama (not in this video) is Turkish for sure.

    But if you look at central asia to other Turkish countries you can not see "kanun like" instrument.

    Maybe latest configurations depends to ottoman empire era both to oud and kanun.

  • @ertansaygi Actually, you can find kanun like instrument even in china. That is why most probably turks brought it to the west asia!

  • it's hard being an avid player of both stringed and percussion instruments, so i can apprecciate the derabukah(sp?) and the oud here. i generally like slower arabic music.. but this is pretty slick. especially when you see the clarinet player unleash a flury of notes and the oud player keeps the same with him.
