If you give citizens as much liberty as possible with very little government ~ the citizens (by themselves/in organizations/in corporations/etc.) can then organize to become more powerful than the government itself.
These strongest individuals can then proceed to overtake the government and nationalize it in their favor.
That's how Right-Wing politics can unwittingly lead to a nationalized government.
I'm not saying that the Left is better than the Right, or vice versa ~ both have their good points, and both need to be balanced against one another. If the government becomes significantly more powerful than the individual, or vice versa, we'll see ourselves on the road to Totalitarian government. I actually think there are striking similarities between the U.S. right now, and Weimar Germany in the 1930's. Both the democrats and republicans are well to the right of the population. If the government becomes significantly more powerful than the individual, or vice versa, we'll see ourselves on the road to Totalitarian government. I especially like the part where Hilter mentions gay in the military and they cut to the woman comforting the other woman that Hitler just cared about equal rights....brilliant I tell you. They were hardly politically left. They persecuted trade unionists, liberals and communists because fascist states condemn the labor movement. Also, liberals generally champion civil liberties and would oppose their motive and means. Socialism is a very broad term. One could be conservative, yet still be a socialist.

I actually think there are striking similarities between the U.S. right now, and Weimar Germany in the 1930's. Both the democrats and republicans are well to the right of the population. It's just that the population thinks they can't do anything about it because of well run propaganda systems (TV, our schools), which have made them feel isolated and passive (hence our low voter turnouts). We must come to realize this is not true if we are to prevent a downward spiral towards fascism.
