Fantastic song like every single one on Tapestry. It was the soundtrack album to my senior year in college and made it hugely memorable even today. By the way, anyone know what that mic is she sings into? I have seen them often on videos from that era but they seem to have disappeared.
THIS is a piece of music history. In fact this video slaps me so badly, it awakes me to reality, making me aware that there was a time when this master piece was unknown or barely known. It's so hard to believe that It's Too Late wasn't always a clasic but a new song. Same feeling with Paul McCartney introducing in concert his "new" song Silly Love Songs! and many other pop master pieces....youtube is for sure 21st century's miracle.
I'm pretty sure that is Danny Kortchmar on guitar, not Danny "Kootch". Kortchmar toured with Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Ronstadt - that circle - for many years. Amazing guitarist..
I love Carol! And Tapestry is one of my favourite albums. I wonder whatever happened to the cat on the album cover, although I know it's long since deceased.
Carol is the artist that I know of that has a consistent sound through the years! I saw a concert she did back around 2002 and she sounded EXACTLY like she does here! She's an amazing talent and has left a huge physiological imprint on my brain as a toddler when this album was first released.
Can any one believe that at the time this song was released, in the early 70s, it was nothing special, all other singer/songwriters were working on the wave just left by the Beatles, making songs..equal too and better.
CAN YOU EVER IMAGINE A TIME AS GOOD AS THIS FOR MUSIC? WELL IT DID HAPPEN, AND IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, JUST LIKE MOZART
AND BEETHOVEN WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT PEOPLE STILL LISTEN TO AND PLAY THEM.. AND IT WILL BE THE SAME FOR THIS MUSIC.
A true master. You also get the felling that she a very nice person. At age 12 I listened to Tapestry album over and over. She had me in a comfortable spell and still does. Carol, will you please teach my 4 yr. old daughter to play like you? She loves you now too!
Someone really needs to start a petition to make the BBC officially release these gems online FOR FREE. These concerts are possibly the best live recorded concerts ever. Truly a predecessor to MTV's inferior 'Unplugged' series. Gordon Lightfoot,Neil Young, Neil Diamond, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor...They all have done these back in the early seventies and need to be released to the public.
This song is too pleasurable to sing, and too sorrowful to be true. It it like a drug that has comforted when I could sing it from my heart. It is like celebrating with a dirge, or dancing at the death of a friend......no matter the artistry, there should be a 12 step program for it.
@qitrodz I have never been able to describe the feelings that this song gives me whenever I hear it. So many emotions all at the same time. Your descripton is so true, thank you for putting it into words.
@qitrodz I really liked your observation and description of the song..... it really does strike me in a similar fashion, sung too happy for the words?

When one gets disillusioned with the world- listening to a song by carol king reminds me that humanity and life can be beautiful.

My only fav Beatles lyrics.
"Was she told when she was young
that pain would lead to pleasure,
did she understand it when they said,
That a man must break his back to earn his day - of - leisure,
Will she still believe it when he's dead?
Ah Girl...rllllllllll "
very Dylanesque

give a shit about the lyrics, if the music is good...

Heart passiot song about having to get divorced,
See, only girls care about the lyrics of a song, boys don't give a shit..
if it rocks its the music, just look at the beatles expose of this with songs
'Everybody's got something to hide except for me and my monkey".
'Why don't we do it in the road"
Infact the only Beatles song where the lyrics mean everything and the music nothing is the song Revolution Number 9...
But this is a well known fact, girls go for and scream for the lyrics,
boys dont
