  • Toninho obviously plays from the heart and rocks an insane jazz, soulful Brazilian guitar. I can barely contain myself and can't believe I didn't know about him until about 2 weeks ago after listening to years of jazz guitar and tons of Brazilian. I've died and gone to heaven!

  • After a week studying with Toninho Horta on the 80's on Cenario School,Botafogo,Rio,I changed from classical to popular and jazz guitar.Today I'm a professional musician.Toninho is a great composer and instrumentalist and a great heart guy that plays for the beauty.I saw him playing all style of music at the school.I saw him playing amazing jazz style when teaching and he is great .Thank you very much for this amazing video.

  • @jarbasg1 Hey I want to play stuff like toninho, should I learn classical technique along with jazz playing/theory?

  • @FantomOfFear Well,Toninho didn't study classical guitar technique. He developed good technique alone and he plays and composes very very well.I think that if someone isn't Toninho Horta or Wes Montgomery, the classical study will be an important tool to play dificult things more easily.Today I study classical guitar and play jazz and bossa on professional gigs.I really recommend the classical guitar study to improve technique.Jim Hall(my favorite) studied classical guitar when beguining.

  • Viva las Toninho!

  • Magnifico!

  • Olha aí o samba onde anda...

    : )

    Purrrfect!!

  • Enzo Todesco, the drummer, just became my friend on Facebook. He is such an AMAZING drummer! I know all the cats think that the best musicians come from the East Coast of the United States, but Europe has either caught up or passed them up. Look at Jojo Mayer, he's from Switzerland.

  • My man, there are always exceptions to the rule but majorityof the greatest musicians come from NYC. Europe has so many great players but they look to NYC as their influences, peers and musical energy. But Europeans passing them is a stretch. Think of Herbie n Wayne, Romero Lubambo, Metheny, Sco, Jarrett, Jack de Johnette, Ron Carter, Roy Haynes, et al. These are the inventors and trailblazers of modern music and they all live or come to New York to share that sound. NYC cats swing much harder.

  • Btw, there are as many great artists in Brasil as there are in Europe. I've seen them and heard them. Not just samba, jazz or classical. All types of sound.

  • NOT at all. They my come to NYC. But, to say that the majority come from NYC is nonsense.

I'll name Herbie Hancock (Chicago), (Chick Corea (Chelsea, MA), Keith Jarrett (Allentown, PA), Eliane Elias (Sao Paolo, Brazil), McCoy Tyner (Philadelphia, PA), Dave Brubeck (Concord, CA). Just some of the current great pianists.

  • @darkoanton5

My remark was to exemplify how all these great musicians you mentioned have lived in NY at one point in their lives to propagate their talent and art. This goes back to Prez, Duke, Bird and Diz. And Miles. New York is the hub and that's still the place where great players meet up in clubs or studio recordings.

  • Excelente!!!!

A pleasure to listen and watch!

    what a performance!!

  • Is this going to be made available commercially? I had the great pleasure of making an acquaintance of Toninho at the time of the release of Diamond Land in Rio (while I was on vacation). Saw him every night of his engagment at Mistura Fina in Ipanema, Got to show him around Miami when he came here a couple of times after that. Great guy and incredible player. Would love to have this on DVD.

  • WOW! This is SSSOOO GREAT!!!! Everybody playes SO great - & one of my all-time favorite tunes. I'm especially impressed with the flute player - she really plays her ASS OFF!!!
