Braking is a HUGE part of being fast on a track. While he didn't pull on the STI, he destroyed it in braking and cornering. I am a huge Subaru fanboy, but the car/driver combination in the Elise was obviously faster. I don't see why people feel the need to defend the Subaru so much. Sure it gave up the biggest fight, but in the end still got owned.

I used to have a lotus elise 111R and they are indeed very quick. the handling is far superior to pretty much any other car on the road and it is by no means slow! 0-60 in just under 5 seconds as standard, brilliant car!

@XFactor2005 It's not a Celica engine. The 1.8L toyota engines are 16 valve engines. The engine in this car is a Volkswagen engine. Hence why the description says "20 valves V.A.G." (Volkswagen Auto Group). And at 1.9L, the engine was most likely bored slightly for aftermarket pistons, and stroked.

@doseofjimbob Incorrect. Lotus uses the 1.8L Toyota 1ZZ-FE (based on the Toyota Celica GT-S engine) with a Yamaha designed head and VVT cams. The earlier Elise came with a 1.8L Rover K-Series engine, perhaps you're confusing it with that?

@IDrinkN20 Theres a few lotus specalist's here in UK that can remove the standard rover k-series engine, from s1 and early s2's, and cram in Honda k20, audi 20v t, ford duratec and r32 golf 3.2 v6 engines to name a few.

This car is a full on race car, there wasnt much on it that i could see being standard when it was parked in the pits, id love a ride in it! :-)

Engine is not from a Toyota its a VAG motor. Different varients can be found in Audi S3, TT, Seat Leon/Ibiza Cupra, Octavia VRS, mk4 golf gti etc

Yeh reliable power in the lotus too tho. Engines from the Audi s3, although it's a modified engine it can't be more than 120-140bhp over standard and its got rebuilt internals. Those other cars kept breaking down all day, Although the green impreza sounded AWESOME! Another company now builds elise with 3.2 v6 golf r32 engine, with turbo option for 600bhp! Elise is the future!!

think it was knockhill (TIMEATTACK) i watched this race there anyway. Amazing car, those evos/skyline/imprezza are 800/900bhp, think elise is 360bhp ish? It came 2nd in the Pro series. Timeattack is racing against the clock tho, so hence the elise is on a fast lap where as the others wont be!

This car doesnt have a toyota engine its got a VAG 1.8T 20V which becomes closer to a 1.9l when its rebuilt and strengthened have a similar engine in my golf except with a power engineering hybrid IHI

That is the same engine that was put in the Celica GTS, Matrix XRS, Corolla XRS. Its called the 2ZZ engine. However Toyota stopped putting them in their cars, with the last year or 2006. They still produce the 1.8 liter 2ZZ, but only for Lotus now. I love that engine!
