Advancing people based on race instead of ability is wrong. The practice should never have started in the first place; it institutionalizes racism and creates divisions and resentment between people who otherwise would have none.

I disagree..there are historical injustices that have been institutionalized since reconstruction! Affirmative Action is needed to makes things equal. Once Affirmative Actions has negated the Institutional Racism that has existed and continues to exist then Affirmative Action will no longer be needed.

Yeah I guess you're right willukus, slavery had no effect on African Americans. There was no racism in America and there is no racism in America. Everyone was treated equally and is being treated equally. As such, there should be no economic division based on racial lines....BTW willukus please realize that your comment cannot be applied in a societal vacuum. There is a context to Affirmative Action. Please realize that and refrain from name calling to support your argument.

sorry buddy but there may be an economic division in America, but it is naive to say that it is based on racial lines. that's just an easy thing to say. Obviously, in some places blacks won't get work cause the employers are racist but exactly the same thing goes for spaniards and whites. The best way to get out of any institutionalised racist system, is to not give it attention. You cannot, via affirmitive action, avoid discrimination. it is discrimination by definition. get real.
