  • I like this version better :3

  • the blend of confusion, tranquility and weirdness in this makes me think of one thing --> ketamine

  • This fucking breaks my heart

  • Trop doué pour être honnête.

  • I love this film. I had to watch it several times to answer a few questions. Why, after having their memories of each other completely erased, were they still drawn to that obscure beach on the same day at the same time only to be re-attracted to one another all over again? Why was there this attraction still there between them? What is the film saying to us about love and the mind? Could it be saying that in love we are connected at a much deeper level than the images we have of each other?

  • @halvaman3 I too questioned that. "John Locke, an eminent English philosopher , in one of the first modern accountings of consciousness and identity, argued that personal identity is defined not by the physical body or the “soul”, but by repeated self-identification. Thus, according to Locke, memory is an integral aspect of the self. Are Clementine and Joel different people after they have their memories erased? In other words, have their identities changed in some meaningful way?"

  • @antarika1 I have never read any John Locke. He sounds interesting. Could our memories be like landmarks on the Landscape where we map out reality. when those landmarks are erased can we still claim to recognise the terrain we are on? "personal identity is defined....by repeated self-identification...according to Locke, memory is an integral aspect of the self" My god are we really that fragile!? If my memories were completely wiped out who or what would i be? Different? of course surely!?

  • the song leaded me to the movie

  • I don't know why, but I just cried because I was born into the wrong generation.

  • i wish i can erase my memory of her

  • me encanta!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • depressing shit

  • @akihamid1 shut it!

  • I do love The Korgis version for different reasons (brings back memories of my childhood in the 80s) but I have grown to love this version too after having seen this film now several times. It is so heartfelt and sorrowful - suits the film perfectly.

  • Some songs should never be covered and this is one of those songs. How to make a beautifully moving ballad into a... well,... at best I'd call it dead-pan, emotionless dross, but then I'm being polite.

  • @djbethell your opinion my friend, but this has a much more sorrow filled sound, and is alot cleaner than the original, also more natural, though the lack of the sax in this version is disapointing

  • @djbethell i think (it´s just my point of view) that this version it´s way better than the original, this one feels more melancholic, more natural...the one of The Korgis i think the synthesizer sounds awful... but as i said it´s only my point of view ( ^ ^ )

  • <3

  • im just surprised how music could touch emotions! Becks still the MAN.

  • suchhhhhhhh a good filmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this music.

  • This movie is so fucking beautiful and this song... <3

  • Cette chanson est tellement émouvante.

    Magnifique.

Rien de plus à dire... J'en chiale presque à chaque fois

  • I like the original version by The Korgis but this one is good.

  • 10 people never learn

  • one word: Amazing!

  • my friends always accuse me of listening to depressing songs..Why i DO NOT feel depressed?

  • @ageanpelago i feel ya its just relaxing im very upbeat and energetic but when it comes to music i love slow and mellow...friends tell me im emo undercover lol ur not alone<3

  • There is so much hope in this song. I wonder if George W. Bush has ever heard it. Do you think someone like W would understand what it's all about?

  • @grinderman77 Why bring George W. Bush into this

  • @darkastonvillafan Listen to the lyrics of the song. If there is one person on this planet who could benefit from a "lesson", it would be George. He got the U.S. involved in an unending and extremely expensive conflict. To what end? Do you really believe all those countries in the Middle East will end up with a democracy? If you believe that, you need to go back to school and take a few history lessons.

  • @grinderman77 Nobody cares about George W Bush, Iraq or any of that crap that happen years ago. Move the FUCK on.

  • @darkastonvillafan You mentioned the following "that happen years ago". For your info, the U.S. still has thousands of troops in Irad and Afghanistan. There are still "body bags" being flown home practically on a daily basis. If you think the American involvement with the Middle East conflict is now a thing of the past..............you are sorely mistaken.........................................Everybody's got to learn sometime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @grinderman77 I hate it when people say we should pull out because of troops being killed. it's war, people die. They know what they were getting into.

  • @darkastonvillafan Wow, you are a bigger "Imbecile" than I first imagined.

  • @grinderman77 I feel the same about you.

  • @grinderman77 I often think the same thing. There are so many levels to this song. /watch?v=Jdt3cP8uyCo

  • I love this song AND moreover this is an awesome film. I always notice something new when I re-watch!

  • I prefer the original.

  • this is shit - korgis are 100 better

  • 10 people havent learned shit!

  • magnolia is way better movie compared to this and I find soundtrack - concept is a bit rip off...

  • it's PROBLEMATIC...

    5:24 Ok

    (smiles)

    5:35 ...OK

    (laughs)

    :)

  • I don't like it when in the title it's not mentioned that the song IS A COVER. Imagine what it feels like for the writer of this song to go on youtube 31 years later after writing it (yes, this song is from 1980!) and seeing young kids thinking that Beck actually wrote the song. It's not fair and it should be stated that this song belongs to the KORGI. It shouldn't just be said in a comment, it should be said in the freaking title!

  • @cataleo1 Imagine, is anything real these days? Everything from A to Z is a copy or mix of copies...

  • @Kano4000 So what's your point exactly? Let people think that Beck wrote the song - who cares? I say, let's LEARN to respect other people's work and accept the challenge of knowing, or finding out, WHAT we are listening to. I love Beck's COVER but it should be stated that this is a cover, NOT the original.

  • @cataleo1 Yes but Becks version is so much better. Their interpretation is way ahead!

  • @cataleo1 - Has it crossed your mind that the person who is sharing this video on Youtube did not necessarily know about the fact that it was a cover. It is most likely mentioned on the cover of the CD on which the song is released due to legal issues, but the artist cannot take blame on the fact that people share things on Youtube without taking such things into consideration.

  • @Lateflipper Yes, it has crossed my mind. So what's your point? It doesn't change one bit what I said earlier, which of course I stand by fully. It's the people's responsibility to be informed and know what's going on around them. If you upload a song on the internet you should know these things. Or at least you should look into it to make sure you know what you're uploading.

  • @cataleo1 I think you should stop your whining and sit back, relax and listen to how this song should be played. Beck performs this song with far more feeling and passion than the original.

  • @judgenutmeg1977 make sure you share your useless, judgmental comment with the other 30 people who agreed with me. And grow some respect for Art too. I didn't compare the two versions (like you have improvised), I only said that credit must be given to the author of the song. Don't sit back and relax, stand up and be alert so you understand what other people write.

  • @cataleo1 Are you a spoilt teenager, prone to tantrums, foot stomping and angry outbursts when your faced with criticism or confrontation? If this is the case, i'm sure it's just a phase you're going through. It doesn't show good character though, so the sooner you grow out of it, the better. I only suggested that you stop whining and enjoy the music. Try and have a go. You'll feel a lot better for it. A lot less bitter and more positive. It is a far, far better version though. Cheers!

  • @judgenutmeg1977 In a scale from 0 to 10 the consideration this teenager in his 40's has for your musical taste and public feedback is minus 4186!

Having said this, I let you go back to your little world in which you feel superior and teacher. Stay in it, don't venture out, it's dangerous.

  • @cataleo1 Okay, remember, keep positive! Cheers!

  • Respond to this video...

  • I love the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

  • wonderful movie wonderful song who havent seen the movie yet i recomend them

  • Wow, this song is realy good for my status.

  • this song and this movie are amazing

  • i fucking love this song

  • This version is an insult to the original. Blame the young kids of today for liking this crap.

  • @sirtinycreep I disagree, both versions are good. Calling it crap immediately makes me associate this with music like Lady GaGa, and that's simply insulting. I mean, that kind of music just isn't tasteful. At least you can listen to this without your ears bleeding.

  • @sirtinycreep "Blame the young kids of today .." what bollocks. Just like the close minded pricks of another generation who slagged off the Beatles and pop music in general when they first arrived. I bet you would have been one of those luddites who shouted at Dylan when he went electric. Open your your ears and mind for fucks sake

  • @sirtinycreep Now your attitude makes sense "Steam Nostalgia" hahahahahhaha.....

  • ..sono ancora qui...

  • @proster before youtube was huge, I had saved it and uploaded it onto my personal website for a blog I once had (youtube was very slow at 2006 and my site could load it faster)

then I searched the title and couldnt find it on youtube in dec 2008, so I just uploaded it

now it's actually getting lots of views... and yeh thats the story lol

I'll post a link in the description, I just don't use this account much

  • @wwjoeyd where's the link you said you'd put in the description??

  • @wwjoeyd so take it down!!

  • @xpez so people will find the better version...or are you in love with all of your views???

  • @proster i don't really understand what you're asking?

  • @proster Yeah because you totally own this band's music videos. lmao.

  • @proster why on earth you don't allow it to be embed?

    So he does!

  • What movie is this? it looks good

  • LOVE this song.<3 (:

    2 films a voir absoluement

  • This version lacks the 'soul' of the original version by the Korgis (early 80's). just can't compare to the original!

  • a true piece of art

  • it starts off badly this versions but improves considerably after the first min! In the end it's a good accompaniment to this vid :D

  • my life. cant erase. cant forget a love lost. thrown away. does everybody gotta learn sometime. what if its too late? what them? emptiness, regret, and alcohol.

  • He miss (eternal) Sunshine, times may be tough, but everybody's got to learn sometime ;-)

  • I may have made this comment before, but, here goes again..

    Favorite movie of all time!

PS. I know this is a cover, I've heard the original and I like it, but I love this version, it's very mellow and nostalgic.

  • This movie is beautiful. Rather loose love than never have it at all. Some memories are worth keeping even if they make you sad.

  • @Skullz930 not sure i agree. some caged birds fear the sky. real love can never be dismissed so easily. thanks though for the comment...

  • @barryharket, It's not always a happy ending in reality. There was just as much a chance of them staying together as the last go-around. The movie is hopeful to the people that lost love, beautiful for the people who never experienced it, and very in depth to people that are experiencing it right now. This movie is up for interpretation, and not a fact but the fact is it's not always a happy ending in reality.

  • Jim Carrey's so blessed...He is one of the few actors that can play drama as well as comedy...

  • great movie...great song...

  • or patmorac, speaking about covers, have you ever heard the version of Zucchero Sugar Fornaciari? So beautiful

  • for patmorac, speaking about covers, have you ever heard the version of Zucchero Sugar Fornaciari? So beautiful

  • beck has written an immortal song , so moving , makes you sad but also strengthen your human soul .

  • @mohini123456

He didn't write it. He's covering a song by The Korgis.

  • @mohini123456 he didn't write this, it's a cover

  • she was nice, nice is good!

  • Beatlesque

  • i wish i could erase all the memories of this one girl...

  • @kroovyandcal you don't really mean that, it might hurt right now, but eventually you will cherish those memories. ha ha, it's one of the many lessons in this movie.

  • 5:44: the lean in. I always wonder if it was directed or spontaneous. Either way it is seriously one of my favorite moments in cinema. Director, actor, who cares? Film at its finest.

  • Does anyone know where I can get this version of the song by Beck?

  • I love her hair!

  • good movie good song

why doesnt jim carry do more movies like this?

  • Just saw the movie, and i realized i love this girl. I just cant tell her, i dont want to be hurt, But... Everybody's gotta learn sometime... wish me luck

  • @Biggestmutemathfan good luck! :)

  • This is my favorite movie OF ALL TIME! And this is the best song in an amazing soundtrack! LOVE IT!

  • nothing can touch my feelings right now like this song.....i need your luvin, like the sunshine.....

    love the movie.....

  • Sounds like downpitched.;-)

    Is it?

  • I didn't mess with the audio... if thats what you mean...

  • No, you did't it's a original - i know.

But his Voice sounds really dark. This is in G-minor - tempo is very slow.. Live he plays this song in A-minor and his voice sounds different.

Sometimes songs are finaly pitched up or down after recording. I think that's what they did.

  • this is way much better than the original one. no offence but it's just my opinion.

  • i love this version and the movie, sometimes things go sour during a relationship, and sometimes you wanna erase that bad memories but its an experience and its part of you and your life, sometimes you move on, sometimes you pretend that you have moved on but secretly you still love him or her, and eventually you learn, everybodys gotta learn sometime...

  • I love this song from Beck, its so true, so depressive, so life,...

When i hear this song its like the world slows down, i sit back, thinking about people i ever met, had a great moment with them, and lost them out of my life...

They are still there only i dont see them anymore, i dont know how, where they are.

I only got some great memories from them.

When the song is fading out, the memories are rushing out, very fast. Life reboots when it is quite, looking for new memories.

    I love my life..

  • I'm a fan of Beck but I must say, the orginial version of this song by The Korgis is much better...

  • I had no idea this was a cover song.. thanks haha

  • @wwjoeyd OMG! :D

  • I love both version, but this more slowtempo and thus a bit more 'depressin', a bit more! GREAT SONG

  • @patmorac me neither, gotta check it out. thanks

  • @patmorac disagree. I think the performance and production on this is beautiful. especially the orchestration at the end. sends a shiver down my spine.

  • @thetruegents personal taste I guess...

  • @patmorac i don´t agree with you. This modern version is so much better...

  • @julitro4 yep. as i said before. personal taste.

  • @patmorac No way. This is stunning. But you need to turn it up loud, turn the lights off...then it is spine tingling

  • @patmorac you must be fucking kidding me.....

  • @TKz98 each to their own is all I have to say to you my friend.

  • @patmorac I wouldn't say "Much Better" at all. The original was so cheesey.. pretend moody.

  • i need your lov like sunshine ;)
