  • AMAZING xD .... yes really cooooool :D

  • Nice Video! I've had some friendly horn blowing done to me to before though never like that. Normally it's two short blows. As for answering some of the other comments, you don't expect a horn show every time that you are taking pictures, filming, or waving to a train. It's kind of a thing of surprise and pleasure when it does happen, but it is ultimutly the engineer's choice. In other words, us railfans are not out there for just the sake of hearing the horns. Mariah Rich

  • He gave you a fade.

  • You look just a little bit cold :p

  • shaky video ... anybody see all the snow???? I'd shake too..Berrrrrrrr.. good job kid!! :-D

  • and besides that dude i live in a small town with railroad tracks a perfect place for what your trying to say and everyone in this town is so used to hearing the horn that they can tune them out....you kinda do get used to hearing them after a bit

  • you bring up a valid point, and after i said that i kinda realized that i was just assuming that so i apoligize for that statement. But at the same time it is not like every train blows the horn at fans so i mean if its a problem for the few that do then maybe you need to lighen up a little bit.

  • VERY NICE SHOW! and for the ignoramous that said that his uncle would reprimand any engineer for improper horn use you really need to get out of here and quit trying to start shit over a horn i mean really? come on now just because you hate trains done mean that us railfans cant have ourselves a nice moment of happiness when we have a friendly crew pass by us........grow up

  • @sexyflager101 I like trains and train horns and bells. I also play tower bells and like sirens - own Federal Signal 2t22A and 3t22A airaid sirens. But people DO sleep in the day: night workers, sick people, babies, tired mothers, elderly. You don't disturb them and wake them - for nothing. No need to build PR with track side railfans. They ALREADY like trains. The horn is not a toy. Playing with the horn is unprofessional. Why do you think people go to the trouble of Quiet Zones?

  • @TheCSXfan12 So because others do such stupidity, this engineer should also be stupid? Hahaha.

My great uncle, a steam locomotivengineer who later become head engineer, would give this guy a reprimand. (Am I using words too big for you to comprehend?)

Honking "gives off information"? Hahahaha You win Dumbest Comment of the Week!

[Why do you reveal your low IQ in your screename?]

  • @robertgift Engineers honk to kids becuase they like trains and the kid thinks it cool, youve obviously never railfanned.

  • @nsfostoriadistrict You don't do these improper blasts, even when the kiddies want you to. If they wanto hear the horn, they can go to grade crossings. It's that easy. (Why does my previous post appear four times? I'll delete.)

  • @robertgift But how is it hurting anyone?

  • @nsfostoriadistrict False alarm. The horn is not a plaything. People trying to sleep. Babies sleeping. People missing something said on the radio or TV. Needless annoyance and for what?

Kids want to hear the horn? Do as I did as a kid. I wento grade crossings.

  • @robertgift OK well wouldnt you like to have fun at work or would you rather stare at signals and be pissed off all the time?

  • @nsfostoriadistrict I have fun every day. None of it is at others' expense and needless annoyance.

  • @robertgift Its only annoyance if you see it as annoyance...

  • @nsfostoriadistrict Hahahaha. You have won the dumbest comment of the week - and it's only Monday.

(I happen to like train horns and sirens. I own tworking tornado sirens.)

  • @robertgift How is that dumb? You may see it as annoyance but I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't.

  • @nsfostoriadistrict You don't knowho does and who does not find it annoying. A lot of people DO consider it noise pollution and they even go to theffort of petitioning for Quiet Zones. The same ones who have thanked me for not using the siren on emergency runs when traffic is clear.

  • @robertgift But ou aren't thinking about the people who do like it.

  • @nsfostoriadistrict Not right for people who DO like it (like myself) to impose it on those who do not.

I am legally permitted to keep themergency vehicle siren blaring during my whole trip. I would never needlessly sound it.

The locomotive horn is not a TOY for kiddies entertainment.

They can go to a grade crossing.

  • @robertgift Are you guys done arguing?

  • @robertgift So when you blare your siren a person's life may be at risk and you need a clear path for the quickest route to wherever it is that you're going to. When an engineer blows his horn for a kid no one is going to get hurt becuase of it.

  • @nsfostoriadistrict A sick person finally falling asleep does not matter? Night-shift workersleeping do not matter? Babiesleeping do not matter? A tired mother taking a needed nap does not matter?

Missing something said on the radio or TV does not matter? (Can't repeat it.) At 11:00 p.m. a hospital called for blood transport. I got home at 4:40 a.m. Needed sleep. I should be awakened becausengineer wants to play wit da whistle?

  • @robertgift Ok lets be real here, who besides me is railfanning at 4 A.M.? So there is no reason to blow the horn for a kid.

  • @nsfostoriadistrict All of what I posted below is referring to people sleeping during DAYTIME hours.

Since I missed so much sleep, and had to work, I slept from Noon to 2 p.m.

Kiddies want horn? Lethem go to a grade crossing.

  • @robertgift This needs to stop, if the engineer wants to be nice and put on a horn show he will do it, stfu with this "Go to the grade crossing" shit and stop lighting up my fucking notifications.

  • @nssd70m2 The point apparently evades you. The horn is not a plaything. Not a toy for kiddies' amusement. My great uncle, a steam locomotivengineer, later chief engineer, would have reprimanded engineers for improper horn use. You never sound it unless needed orequired. If I were distrubed by needless blasts, I'd file a complaint, even a lawsuit if necessary.

  • @robertgift Thats good for you, but not every single railroad employee has a stuck up mind like you, get over the fact that there are relaxed railroad employees that would rather make someone smile than loose their job by blowing the damn horn...

  • @robertgift As long as the engineer properly blows the horn at the appropriate times, there are few supervisors who are going to repremind an engineer for blowing the horn for a friendly hello. I've railroaded my entire life and for the most part am a stickler for following the rules. However, if it helps build up a bit of friendly community PR to honk "hello" then I have no problem with it as long as safety isn't compromised.

    Just my viewpoint.

  • @robertgift Well the majority of the people don't sleep during the day, most people are at work where it doesn't bother them if the engineer blows the horn. For people who are sleeping should go sleep in their cars somewhere else, I don't know what else to tell you about it, all I know is that you have no control over when the engineer blows the horn. This kid didn't tell the engineer to blow the horn, plus it's the middle of a snow storm so how many people would hear it anyways?

  • I seen this train come through my city 2-3 weeks ago,it was amazing.

  • Why blowing the horn? No grade crossing.

  • @robertgift Dumbass,he was hanking the horn to the "Railfanner",DUH!.

  • @TheCSXfan12 You don't do that crap. Such unneccessary horn is unprofessional and should prohibited, if not already prohibited. Had I been there, I'd have the guy cited for distrubing the peace.

  • @robertgift They do it for choice of habit, thank you,now that comment was nice, now you don't want to get me pissed off,I'll cuss you out, bitch.

  • @TheCSXfan12 It ain't no "habit". Should not be done. First I would complain to thengineer'supervisor and use this video as proof. (Your language reveals much about you.)

  • @robertgift You're not bright are you,There are "Thousands" of "Videos" of the "Engineers" Honking at Former railfanners, and it also gives off information if some little kid out there wants to be an engineer,so why don't you fuck off you ghetto white trash.

  • Anyone talking shit about this video...come to michigan and let me bury you in a nice 6 foot hole...

  • Nice video. Sounds great

  • Did you see the separated brakeline hoses?

  • I love that bass thrum of thoes diesels, but that darn horn makes me nearly crap my pants every single time.

  • One word; tripod.

  • @sjtom57 one word, fucktard, the kid was 13 so piss off

  • @sjtom57 Talk shit about my friend and it will be 2 words your saying: Dont shoot

  • you are a jerk off so is your stupid ass kid

  • You people complaining about him shaking, get real. If you thumbs down this comment then you were one of those people. This kid likes trains and had the initiative to get out and record these guys out doing their job in the cold (it's cold which is why he's shaking mind you; of course you wouldn't understand that.) while you sit in the house drawing welfare complaining about a shaky video on Youtube. Fools! Good video, young man!

  • @novakane87 Thank you very much, Like I mentioned in some previous comments, I was 13 at the time (Im 17 now) and wasnt that great at video taking, and yes it was quite cold out! lol. Thank you for you nice comment.

  • @novakane87 S h u t u p!

  • what wa sso funny?

  • @NoJimmyNuts I was 13 when i took this video, it was cold and i just got done running 3 blocks in 6 inches of snow.

  • or use a steadycam

  • Don't over pan :-). When you do, slow the pan down. Other than that, nice video.

  • @rwhitenight You have to realize i was 12 when i took this...

  • Best time of year to be out filming/photographing...screw those sunny day shots!

  • What kind of lie is this? That train did not go into emergency.

  • I can't wait for snow that's waist deep!

  • This kid is gonna be a diehard fanner. Out there taping in the middle of winter? That's dedication.

  • hi please check out my ultimate shave and a hiarcut video its the best! K5LA action and more! tell your friends!!

  • I bet the coldness had gotten to you :D.

Love the shaky camerawork, nice to see some die hard train fans filming in whatever the weather is :-).

  • xD xD xD, there is NO crossing over there.

  • It would've been cooler if you actually caught the train going into emergency

  • Michael J. Fox was holding the camera??

  • I want a horn like that for my Honda :-)

  • There not hard to get. It's a Nathan airchime K5LA horn.

  • @bluecollarboiler it's well worth the money to put one on a Honda. I've got one on my 98 civic :-)

  • @bluecollarboiler I have a K3HA in my Accord!

  • @uberstupidmove I have a K5LA on my Bike :D

  • @nssd70m2 Seriously? I kind of want to see pictures.

  • nice video look to be cold there by the shakeing of the person behind the camera i live down here in ga. wish we got the snow like that here ....

  • Awesome horn. I can't wait for winter.

  • ES40DC huh? Hmm, i thought they were all 4400's. Learn something new every day!

  • A lil cold were we??? ha ha ha Nice video

  • Awesome video! That was a great horn... bit chilly out, heh? Haha. Good thing the EMD was leading, and the nasty ugly GEVO was trailing.

  • Hey! I take offense to that dammit! WTF is up with all the GEVO haters? Really? GE now owns EMD, so obviously they're doing something right.

  • Sorry if my comment offended you, but I think that the main problem most railfans have with GEVO's are that they are replacing the older power that makes railroads so unique. And GE did own EMD, but they sold it a while ago and now it's independent.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean about GEVOS replacing older power. I learned that GE owned EMD from my automotive professor, so i can really say nothing to its merit. But he seems to know what he's talking about. He's been in his line of work for 30+ years. I'm surprised he knows anything about trains at all!

  • You might be thinking of General Motors not General Electric. GM-EMD is what I think the engines used to be called. In 2005 GM sold EMD to Greenbriar Equity Group LLC and Berkshire Partners LLC. Now the new EMD locomotives are Electro-Motive Diesel

  • So where was the brake application?

  • Awesome video!

  • Yes sir.

  • those are 2 dash 8-40cw

  • Sorry ,Not even close. The first unit is a SD70M with phase 2 cab and flared radiators ,the second unit is a ES40DC ,elsoknown as a "GEVO".

  • Why do they call it GEVO?

  • General electric EVOlution series

    GEVO

  • That's my favorite kind of weather!

  • Yep! LOL!

  • Thanks kevo!

  • Pretty cool! Good one!

  • For some reason I really like the ending where you show the rest of the train....Yippie For Snow!!!!!!

  • It was a regular NS K5LA. VERY COLD OUT!

  • Southern horns don't know Northern winters.

Then again, everyone thinks it sounds sick when an old BN SD goes through places like Oklahoma and Texas with those sharp horns chosen for cold, blustery, wintery Illinois and Minnesota days. I should know, I used to live near the Chicago-LaCrosse-Minneapolis main near Savanna IL!

  • Dude was that a k5lla that SD70M had cause it sounded different...sounded like the horn the UP Centenial Engine;-)GREAT VIDEO BY THE WAY

Big up to the crew for rewarding yah for being out in that winter wonderland!!!Kool

    *Bryan aka BNSFBJ;-)

  • It would be intresting if CQDX018 filmed DDA40X #6936.

  • Just a regular NS K5LAR24.

  • Very crapy weather! LOL!

  • nice video I was out in that crap too filming.

  • NO FAIR! I WANT SNOW!

  • Me Too Dude;-)
