• chee chee watch ezra dancing in this one

  • This tune sounds somewhat Paul Simonesque, n'est ce pas?

  • @MaybeWeAintUs oui oui!!!! i thougth so too

  • wow! they played this on the day their first album was released!

i had no idea white sky was so old!

  • Between Ezra and Baio's dancing I can't contain my inner urges to dance.

  • i´m in love! <3

  • this was obviously in their early years. their hair is short, the lyrics sound a tiny bit different, they dance weird (a sort of amazing-weird) and the instrumentals are completely different. but man, vampire weekend... FT 'FUCKIN' W ! :D

  • Better than Thom Yorke's dance moves.

  • @123itssusan123 No one can beat Thom Yorke's dance breakdown in Idiotique. Close, but no cigar.

  • this makes me happy.

  • I wish they had kept Rostam's part at 1:03 on the album

  • Lol rostam at the beginning.

  • I love this performance! We just made a tribute video to "Cousins" on our page. Our dancing isn't as awesome as this, but we did have fun riding on the track

  • The only way to dance to Vampire Weekend. Completely ridiculous and without a care in the world. Awesome!

  • FUCKING YES whoever filmed this is a hero thank you

    amazing dancing too haahah

  • Awe, he's so cuuute!

  • worst dance moves ever

  • Whoa, Ezra.

We could've used you at my middle school dance.

  • Comment removed

  • Best dance moves. Ever.

  • Originality is non-existing. Uniqueness is a fake, a farce, as everything in the world has already been invented. It's about how you manipulate what's there what makes you stand out from the rest.

  • the guy on guitar is a spaz not to be offencive but he acts funny

  • not to be offensive but you spelled offensive wrong

  • Because no one else in the music industry has ever adopted any form of sound or style from someone else, right? Everything in the world is completely unique and devoid of any similarities.

  • Of course you can hear similarities all of the time - but the extent Ezra takes from David Byrne (sound, clothing, dancing, commentary during his show), is far beyond a touch of similarity. I saw VW before I had listened to them & before their album came out, and at the show Ezra was delivering the same lines that Byrne delivers in the Talking Heads "Stop Making Sense" film. No big deal if he weren't already dancing, dressing & sounding like him. Try searching "Psycho Killer Old Grey Whistle"

  • Dude, he's wearing jeans a polo. I feel as though that's a pretty generic outfit...

  • Their self-titled album was so awesome, I thought new stuff would be disappointing. This is definitely now one of my favourites of their songs.

  • then check out simon's "crazy love part 2." they stole all the music theory from that.

  • haha badass

  • Can you tell me why youtube comments always end up in conflicts between people? It's a democratic site where we can all say something-- and all people do is slag each other off.

  • fack off you slag :P

    jokessssss

    world peace for alll

  • Were you answering your own question?

  • Sounds like Born Ruffians.

  • I love the both so much!

  • Actually, I beg to differ. They played this song on 12/12/08 at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon. Besides that, yeah, they're a great band and thanks for posting it.

  • I'm sorry if you think so. It's just proper English my low-brow friend. If it's too much for you to comprehend then please, tell me. I can simplify it for you.

  • this was filmed on january 29, 2008... eleven months prior to the crystal ballroom show. i think that's why he's picking on you!

  • oh my bad, thought it said 2009

  • damn how can you have such shitty taste

  • Why can't there be more bands like this? Well, I guess if anyone could do it they wouldn't be a great band.

  • WOW WACKY

  • Ezra's dancing is unbearably cute. How much longer must we wait for their next album?!

  • New album tentatively out fall 2009(?).

  • Oh really?

that's cool thanks, from what I could hear of this song, it sounds fantabulous!

  • AAAAH i want the new album to be out NOW

  • lame

  • extremely lame to say.. im sorry :) but yeah... really lame ahaha

  • these guys are just incredible period

  • Wheeeee look at em dance!

  • i love this song. cant wait for the new album

  • This really is quite awful!!! I just love it!!!! :-D

  • haha, yeahh i know! theyy really feeeel the music

  • haha, the dancing is exquisite.

  • haha i love it...it's like it just takes over them and they can't help it! it's so entertaining

  • They played this at Austin City Limits... I love their songs and not only are they really good, they're all really fun. It makes you want to dance, even if you can't...

  • they've got rhythm and music but they should never dance

  • AHHH There it is!!

Havent heard this since i saw them 2 months ago at splendour. They emmitted it from the radio live show for pirating reasons i suspect. THIS SONG IS GOING TO GO HUGE.

  • does anyone know when this song is going to either be able to be downloaded or bought or anything??

  • i can make the mp3 for you if you want it.

  • i love this song though!!!

  • i read this yesterday, and im a alive homie.

  • ha!

  • I love this. Very much.

  • Ezra is sexy <3

  • you got that right!!! :D

  • OMG! i love vampire weekend so much! i loved his dancing!! haha it was really cute : )

  • beautiful dancing!!!!

  • I think they played this in Chicago today. Good stuff!

  • i luv ezra he is a hunk lol o_0

  • I ♥ Ezra Suuuu much!

  • I'm really shaking my head at the people in here who think Paul Simon didn't 'rip off' anything to make his music.

All music, including the awesome stuff, is a collection of influences. No song ever comes out of thin air, so why act like it's a problem when you can clearly hear the influences in a band's music?

And to those who are interested in some of the guitar work and rhythms used by Vampire Weekend: listen to Thomas Mapfumo or Prince Nico Mbarga, just to name a few examples.

  • ezra is so gooooood looking.

this is such a good song! i can't wait for there next new album

  • goin to c them at he wiltern in november!front row! yaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy

  • man vampire weekend makes my life

  • i really wish these songs were longer

  • Would love to see them live. I hope they come to Mexico soon!

  • ah, i love them

and also, i just noticed that ezra wears a lot of yellow

  • i saw them live a week ago, and theyre REALly really good live! i loved them

    :)

  • haha they played this today at summerstage. it was pretty amazing

  • is that supposed to be a bad thing?

  • No, it's just that I'm Nigerian and have been a listener of Nigerian music since I was in the womb. I always wondered if I could ever somehow modernize it but I play the piano (since I was six) and Nigerian melodies don't sound very nice on piano, they loose... everything. Anyway, I own a guitar but have never taken lessons so I literally just play with it when I play with it... anyway, my point is that I wish I'd figured it out myself... and these guys aren't even Nigerian. It kills me.

  • haha he dances cool

  • Where can I download this????

  • you can't.

    believe me, i've tried.

  • Unless you was to somehow get the flv file from here and convert it to an mp3...

  • juhu heute in münchen!!!

  • They remind me of the Spinto Band, i really want to go + see the Vampires at leeds festival this year.

  • GOOD STUFF

  • Omg at the beginning i just want to sing

'fat, jolly, the archangel sloped into the room'

    Paul simon-Crazy love, vol. 2

  • it seems very animal collective-inspired

  • dont u dare compare vampire to animal collective, vampire is good!, oh man i totally hear it

  • saying one band is better than another is kind of loaded.

however, animal collective have fucked around more, and i think that's paid off for them.

although i don't see the resemblance at all.

  • u have no taste

  • i love their songs! this may be my favorite so far

  • i think to like this song you need to have an acquired taste. fortunately, i do

  • indeed. same here. =]

    go vw!!

  • paul simon milked this crap a bunch of years ago and did it way better. this group is so milquetoast. another great example of critics suddenly "loving" a band that is bland to its core just because they have a gimmick. and the masses fall in line.

  • wow that's so wrong. i think this band has a very interesting and original style and that you are just saying they are bland to allude that you listen to more interesting and unusual music that no-one has ever heard of to sound individual the term "the masses fall in to line" says it all. i never heard a critic mention this band before, i heard about them from my guitar teacher who found them on myspace, i bought the album and love every song. and i dont see what the "gimmick" is it's just style

  • i can never get sick of any of their songs.

  • Check out Just Fuzz too

  • i want to like them so bad but i just cant because their sound is just noise. i dont understand it.

  • Listen to some of their stuff on myspace music or something, where it is more clear

  • it really really isnt at all. this is just a bad recording and one of their more out there songs

  • I think they started a new genre: Prententious. As in: fuck rock, pop, rap... I try to keep it pretentious. It's not really music, and it's not really cool, but I LOVE IT! blah... shoot me now!!!

  • hmm, i do like listening to the band. but i also like your theory. i mean, i don't just think you're flaming, but that you have a legitimate argument and view of the music. although, i would say that animal collective beat them to the genre you speak of. (this song even sounds like it could be from AC!) i think it has a lot to do with being from nyc, the quintessence of pretension. it's gotta rub off somehow.

  • Yeah, maybe I'm just jealous of NYC, since I'm from a small town... but I appreciate your response, and sorry if I offended any fans out there. I expected to love it after reading about them all over the web and in certain magazines... o well.

  • there are bands that are trying to be soo indie and bring back things like ray-ban sunglasses and tight t-shirts these days.

  • Bring back ray-ban sunglasses? When did they go away?

  • i think vampire weekend are just bringing back boat shoes.

  • They need to release this one.

They're smart, getting working on new stuff before the hype dies down.

  • It's like a combo of the sim redman band and bedouin soundclash...the guitar is definitly similar to guitar work on "Life is Water" by SRB...they have that punky reggae like bedouin soundclash.

  • there are bands in columbia? who'd of guessed.

  • they are from columbia UNIVERSITY.

im not trying to be mean or anything.

    just tellin' ya. :)

  • They're From Cambridge...

  • No they went to Columbia, not Harvard...Spin magazine, and their homepage will confirm this...NYC, not Boston.

  • The best band to come out of Columbia since Sha Na Na!!!

  • His stiff dancing/jumping reminds me of Stuart Murdoch. Don't worry, it's a good thing.

  • His stiff dancing/jumpine reminds me of David Byrne, also a good thing :)

  • Hey this is a good band. I hope they're here to stay and not just a flash-in-the pan.

    Jyolene

  • listening to these guys gets me so high!! I love them so so much!

  • First you're an ass, second look at Scissor Sisters and then compare them to these guys and then see what gay really is.

  • or Pansy Division ^-^

  • quit thumbing down the guy. skateboarders are are practically required to have have shitty taste in music.

  • lol.

    word.

  • i knew someone would say some gay shit like that. you probably think i listen to shitty bands like rancid and nofx. but then why the fuck would i even be on this page? a friend recommended them and they sound like a fake ass, wannabe reggae band. Fuck Vampire Weekend and you.

  • rancid, nofx, and vampire weekend are awesome shut up.

  • amen my brother noogies

  • The friend has good taste.

Anyway, they're not a reggae band. If you listened to their full album, you would know that. They're pretty much reggae and classically influenced post-punk. Whatever that means. I think you'll find that EVERY SINGLE BAND has influences and can easily be compared to another. Just like...Hindelcreed. They all sound exactly the same, because each has influenced the other. Or something. No, they just suck. Nevermind.

  • I'd say they have some ska influence as well. In fact there were some parts on the album where I thought some trumpets could easily replace the string sections. Perhaps mariachi style trumpets. Listen to the song "The National Side" by Romantica to get a feel for what I'm talking about.

  • Lighten up kid--er I mean, 47 year old. Obviously you're unable to take a joke (that you anticipated but still got angry over). Since when does something have to be "real" to be good? Look, you could have easily pointed out that I was being kind of a dick and come back with something of equal or greater wit. Instead you chose the the fuck you road. Thats cool that you don't dig VW but disrespect earns you disrespect. Maybe you were sick that day of Sunday School?

  • I've listened to a little of the Black Keys. Excellent band. Joy Division, I've only heard of. I've already admitted that I generically insulted your musical taste based on your handle. I'm sorry. It was an easy target. You however, are still overreacting and gay bashing (pointless, considering that I'm not gay). But just to irritate your hipster elitist, quasi-macho, black t-shirted ass, I submit the bands: The Polyphonic Spree. The New Pornographers. The Balkan Beatbox.

    xo,

    pig-in-shit

  • i love the new pornographers. why is a gentleman such as yourself affiliating with the cauterwaulish frequencies of vampire weekend? i hate hipsters. listen to joy division.

    with warmest regards,

hipster elitist, quasi-macho, black t-shirted ass

  • duude wth,

  • yehhh listen to joy division and pink floyd, watch factory girl and controll,be well kool and soo vintage !

    lol

  • ahahahahaha

    this conversation's pointless

Don't like the music? suck it up

Like the music good for you

I personally like it but you know it's just my opinion, no use in eating each other's faces you know?

  • woooooooow ur so kool and indie for coming on here and saying that ! how diffrent,,,,,,

  • dudeski. this isn't reggae. reggea is afro influenced but this is afro-pop which is not reggae influenced. They sounds more like Oliver 'Tuku" Mtukudzi than bob marley. stop listening to the same shit music over and over and you'll learn to differentiate.

  • well elephants usually do hide their dead from the public, so i'd have to say yes, purchase the stock.

  • he's going to have to change his grip if he wants to hit that 3 iron anywhere.

  • Hahahaha! Genius comment!

  • great comment ^_^

  • I love these guys! Ezra's dance is so cool:D

  • such relaxed reggea music!

just discovered these guy's yesterday ^_^

  • watching this made me smile

    unexpectedley(spelling is wrong i

know. but i suck at spelling

    so forgive me)

  • can anyone send me any of the shit that's not on their debut album , please i'm desperate for more!!

  • there are is one i know, it's called

    "Ladies of Cambridge"

i don't know where you could GET IT

but you could listen to it on Myspace.

    Its not on THEIR page

it's on the one below it.

  • I have not LOVED any music since Nirvana, and I freaking LOVE this band~

  • i really liked your comment.. this comparison with nirvana is interesting.. i don't mean the style of course, but attitude to music, idea, freshness.

i do not love them yet, but i'm fairly intrigued..

  • i love this band

  • nice:)

  • i ABSOLUTELY LOVE the second chorus with the keyboardist shouting... too bad it's cut off

  • this sounds like paul simon ripoff FOR REEEEELZZZZZ which is sad because i love vampire weekend so much

  • yeah listen to song number 9 on Graceland at the beginning called "Crazy Love, Vol. II". I think you will find it sounds slightly familiar to this intro.

  • it's not a ripoff. it's influenced by graceland. they could do a lot worse than using paul simon as an influence. and to the extent that some of the guitar bits sound very much like graceland, so what? this was a first-time live performance. i was there. it was fantastic. why not see what it grows into, then judge?
