One more thing about Reaganomics. He deregulated EVERYTHING and that includes Banks and Financial industries.
And thanks to Reagan, banks and financial industries started to lend money to anybody for mortgage. Read more about "alternative mortgage transaction parity act of 1982". It finally blew up in 2008 and you know what happened : Sub prime mortgage crisis
No one like Reagan should be a president ever...ever again.
Reaganomics, in its original form, was suppose to give a huge tax cut to the middle class, as well as small business. Reaganomics, in its original form, was suppose to cut gov't spending enough to give us a surplus or an almost surplus by 1987.
Reagnomics, as it was re-written by Congress, gave an across the board tax cut - a big % which went to the rich. As it was re-written by Congress, they totally phased out the part of eliminating gov't spending.
How did you and your families live in the 80's? Did you have money for vacations and new cars, good health care? How about taking down the worst EVER threat to our way of life (RUSSIA) - I'll take the debt vs. speaking RUSSIAN. Quit fucking whining about Reaganomics. We all lived good in that time. Now we are all living shitty (Unless you're a CEO). Obama - the buck stops here you ass hole! Now your going to print another $450 billion for jobs? Get the fuck out of the economy...ass hole!
Who's the father of all lies?Could it beSATAN?Barring major repentence, this guy,his demon spawn, and Clinton and Obama are all taking the poop chute to hell(they're all shameless profligate liars)
It's kind of ironic. The stupid old Bush did raise taxes. Ironically, that gave Bill Clinton, who was playing the low tax card during election, more money to spend during his four years.

He didn't realize how disastrous the Reagan tax cuts would end up being when he said this. We're still suffering from the effects of Reaganomics. And politicians are still willing to follow that awful economic model to this day. It's just astonishing. I'll hand it to Bush Sr. for going back on his word and not being stubborn while the debt was skyrocketing. He was still a crappy president though
@grasd2 Could you explain how Reaganomics was devastating to Americans? It reduced inflation, created jobs, and hit just about every target across the economic spectrum other than the defecit. I'd like for you to actually expose the bad side of Reaganomics instead of just claiming that it failed.
@wazzuspartan His policies dramatically increased wealth inequality, the wages of the middle class and lower class remained mostly stagnant even though they began working longer hours, while the income of the top 5% rose at record levels. The economy grew with his policies but all the growth ended up in the hands of the rich and that was what he intended when he fooled Americans with his trickle down BS. Supply side economics causes the wealth to go to the top and stay there.
@grasd2 I read an article from the WSJ that said 50.1% of the tax revenue in the govt. today comes from the top 3% of the nation. So when the rich get richer, so does the govt., which means the need to increase taxes is decreased. During the Reagan yrs, productivity increased, and the real median family income grew by $4000. In the pre/post reagan years, it experience no growth or loss. Having a job is more important than a low wage. Every income group grew its income. 21mil jobs were created.
@wazzuspartan Yes the real median income went up but that doesn't speak to how much of a share of the income the average person has. It was skewed up by the huge amount of wealth going to the top. All that came of the reagan era is increased efficiency and workload on the backs of the middle class and the richest 5% gained almost all of the results of the economic growth
@wazzuspartan My whole point is that all of Reagan's policies were designed to send a larger percentage of the economic growth to the top 5%, more so than any president before him and maybe even after him. He succeeded greatly at that, that was his plan coming in. He was the first president to every fully bow down to the rich and the corporations right from the start.
@wazzuspartan And for all the praise Reagan gets for being fiscally conservative, the credentials just aren't there. He increased the national debt massively to where Bush Sr. had no choice but to raise taxes to lower the massive debt which cost him his presidency. The unemployment rate was massive for his entire 1st term, it improved by his 2nd term but still wasn't anything special.
@grasd2 You say the credentials aren't there, but they are, go look it up. If you think Reagan massively increased the debt, is there even a word to capture the magnitude in which Obama has increased the debt? The unemployment under Reagan dropped from 9.4% to 7.7% in the first 17 months of his presidency. The median family income grew by $4k during Reagan years. At least R.W.R. has an excuse for the debt, he had to build up our arsenal for war and fix the economy. BO/RR are in similar positions
@wazzuspartan Totally - don't forget to add the fact that this debt funded the distruction of RUSSIA. Read my lips "Russia would have invaded USA if we did not bankrupt their ass". Shit, the presidents we have had since Reagan can barley hold his jock...The Bushes were aweful. They increased the size of government and increased taxes. However, they didn't lie to the whole country under oath (Clinton). And Obama, the worst by far. We are in big trouble going forward. Laissez Faire you dumb fuck!
@grasd2 Reaganomics is just part of it, that wasn't what really what started it. Ever since the Federal Reserve existed, the value of our dollar went down, due to inflation and that translates to a tax to the people.
Click Savanroy36's profile. You'll tell what kind of intellect we're dealing with.
And Dragonslayer said it short and simple...to read into it further is assumption of general politics. Some one is going to get taxed, but nothing new to common (middle class) is exactly what happened. I didn't get any new taxes on the Federal level.
I have huge taxes now, and nothing changed. Awesome :p
It's politics, not reality. What is said before election is far from reality once in office. Mr. Bush did what he had to do once he saw what was in front on him.
This is the same Mantra of false and ill lead "change", which also needed re-adjustment to reality once faced head on. Now Mr. Obama decides to listen to the people once we've spoke loudly. We needed taxes then, and need less radical change now...we can't afford it. Welcome to Democracy. The people.
That's not by Webster's dictionary of course. You have your own logical choice of words for a logical debate. Right above "definatly" I assume. It's politics, which is never reality. It's as if the beauty pageant has real cures for peace on earth.
Supply-side economics have run their course. How one can cut taxes for the rich and wage such an expensive war is completely beyond me. That's like going from saving $500 a month to buy a Hyundai, to cutting monthly savings to $250 and deciding to buy an S-Class Merc instead.
Do you really believe that Bush made this statement and did not understand the gravity of the nations debt??? Did Reagan spend a ton of money after he made the speech which caused him to buckle on his promise? Stop making excuses for these guys. The Republicans and Democrats are distroying this nation.
H. Ross Perot and Bill Clinton "to read his anal sphincter!" then he bent over and farted in the microphone.-jk Hey, the old cowboy LBJ might have done it on a bet.
Yeah that was really fucked up how George Sr said he wouldn't raise taxes but then he ended up raising them, this is one of the main reasons why he wasn't re-elected.
Bush gave in to the Democrats. Big spending is what gave us all this debt, not tax cuts. No more Obama, no more Bushes, its time for balanced budgets like Gingrich's congress had in the latter years of Clinton's presidency.
Clinton was a damn great president, you can't have the greatest economic boom ever without having a great president in office but the main reason the economic boom of the Clinton era happened was because of Reagan's Reaganomics, the whole thing just boomed once Clinton took office.
the only reason he had to raise taxes is because of Reagan's stupid Reaganomics which caused the public debt to go up. Bush did the right thing by raising the taxes because even though it cost him the 1992 election it helped a little bit to the good economy during Clinton's administration. Which the second Bush did all he could to fuck up.
Actually, Reaganomics increased government revenue. But the Liberal Democrats running the House of Representatives increased spending even more.
In fact, Reagan was blamed for "shutting down the government" because he kept vetoing those increases, until the Liberal Media had everyone against him, and he had to sign.
Bush raised taxes because he was dishonest, and didn't understand economics. Reagan was right, Bush and the other Liberals wrong.
Yeah he raised them to reduce the debt and the deficit but it would have never happened if it weren't for the democratic congress while Bush was in office, plus we would have never had the economic boom during the Clinton era if it wasn't for Reagan's economic policy.
@Enio125 Even though he did the right thing by raising them, he should not say it as he kept his promise to his voters. How would you feel that if your friend promise not to do something then outright lying instead? Of course people will get pissed. Bush Sr and Clinton are great but Bush should not said the "no new taxes".
Lying isn't "the right thing" to do. Moreover, it cost Bush the election and put Clinton in office. This would allow the democrats to claim responsibility for the "creation of the internet" and the IT boom years of the 1990s.
Gotta be one of the best delivered lines in the history of political rhetoric. He delivered it so well - it came back and got him. Gotta admit - ONE HELL OF A SPEECH!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
For those in la la land (unfortunately most people observing politics), President Bush '41 didn't violate this promise. This promise was "Read my lips, no NEW taxes". Sure, he increased our taxes, but didn't add on any NEW taxes. By the way, he was pressured into doing this by a DEMOCRATIC congress, and it was in order to deal with and curb (which it did) the rising national DEFICIT. President Clinton did not lead us into a surplus, his kick ass Congress did.
Nader is indepeantat and he would agree with you about that. Nader is not for the coporporte and the crooks on Wall Street. Too bad he did not get to debate with Mackane and Obama.
Hmm, yes, Bill Clinton was so great! He definitely did not eliminate tons of military related jobs and lay off thousands as well as making the national debt grow exponentially! God fuc...I mean bless Bill Clinton!
Hahaha, you mad? Clinton is the only President since Jimmy Carter who hasn't made the national debt grow at all, let alone exponentially. So either you're massively uninformed or you're a liar.
good thing CLinton destroyed this corrupt lying son of a bitch in 92. after 12 years of reagan and bush's trickle down economics, massive deficits, tax and spend, they had this country going to hell in a handbasket....God bless you Bill Clinton for turning all of that around!!
Even despite the affair, which was fucked up for blaming him for being a bad president btw since affairs happen every day. .. I still wish Bill was president, we wouldn't be in this fucking mess.
To be honest, GHW was OK, but it's a shame his son's an idiot. However, GHW is still retarded for reneging on his 1988 promise. That, in turn, would cost him the Election of 1992.
Bush was seriously one of the Top 10 or 15 presidents ever. If you really look at his record and the good he did, he's up there. Second highest approval ratign ever at 89%. His son beat him temporarily with 91% after September, odd that his son now has the lowest approval rating of any president. It's a shame he was such a great president and his son is a selfish idiot.
its ironic Bush Sr.'s approval ratings feel into the 40's and 30's in 1992, which is why he lost re-election, then rose after the election. If Bush II's approvals were in 2004 where Bush I's were in 1992, John Kerry would be President today. W. did everything his dad didn't do: he GOT Saddam, kept the war going, never raised taxes, and didn't wait until it was too late to pander to the far right, yet avoided it at his conventions, unlike Bush I in 1992, and became a "real Texan."
He lost re-election because of Ross Perot. Most of Perot's supporters were formerly Republicans. If Perot did not run, those votes would have gone to Bush, giving him a landslide victory. Clinton would have only won Arkansas, Maryland, Washington DC, and New York. All of the other 46 states would have gone to Bush. If it wasn't for Perot in 1996, Bob Dole would have won too, by a narrower amrgin, but still won. Nader did that in 2000, gave the election to Bush Jr. Ok cuz I don't like Gore.
your the stupidest fucking idiot on the internet. Bush I's approvals in 1992 were at Jimmy Carter levels, in the 40's and 30's. No party has ever been re-elected back to the White House with those numbers, not Stevenson in 1952 with Truman, HHH in 1968 with LBJ, Ford in 1976, Carter in 1980, and Bush 1992 was no exception. Perot, who was pro-choice pro-gay and against NAFTA was for change as were his voters. Exit polls showed he did not change the outcome. Get over it: CLINTON WON.
When Perot was out of the race, which was from July-October, Bush was polling the upper 30's, EXACTLY where he ended up, and Clinton was in the mid 50's. It only got closer when Perot came back, perot rose, Clinton fell, but Bush stayed the same. Perot helped BUSH, as Bush was on his way to a landslide loss. His approvals were abysmal for 1992. If you even think Dole woulda won 1996, kill yourself. Clinton had high approvals, and was winning by a mile until Perot began attacking him.
Yeah, but who were Perot's supporters? I can't buy that any of them were Clinton supporters. If you look at the popular votes for each state and you give all Perot votes to Bush, he wins most of the states. No one expected Truman to win in 1948, but someone he won, but it may have been because of Wallace and Thurmond though. It's also a fact that in 92 Clinton did not win a majority in those states. I guess I could go back and split Perot's votes 50/50 and see if that makes a difference, but
you can't give "all of them to Bush." What the kind of voodoo logic is that? I'll trust data over what "you can buy," and the polling and exit poll data indicated Perot's votes woulda split on election day if he weren't on the ballot. Given Perot's stances, it makes a lot of sense, he was pro-choice, pro-gay, and against NAFTA in a year where Bush Sr. had approvals in the 30's and 40's. Don't try to compare bush to truman, Truman's numbers consistently rose thru 1948, Bush's stagnated
Its truly sad to see that Chrisitians had a big say so on getting the Bushs into office they are a bunck of lairs,I am going to make a bumper sticker saying if you love your Momma vote 4 Obama
Promising no taxes. Pretty no win. I still cant believe he vetoed the FMLA law, just because of his promise of no taxes. (People need to take time off for dieing family members, or seriously ill family members.)
because 1 person hates us in that country...i'm sure in Russian and China, there are military personnel just thinking up ways to destroy our communication system in case we are in a conflict with them...so should we just launch an attack on them also??? Their
are timothy mcveighs and bin ladens in every freakin' country in the the world. If the world was perfect...of course I would destroy everyone, but i can't.
better, you are mistaken. 2 million displaced iraqis and a reemergence of alqueada in iraq due to our irrational invasion of a country that had nothing to do with 9/11, not to mention not getting much support from nations to help pay for this cost, does not make what this current President did any better than the rest. think people! secure the borders, planes, oceans, id everyone coming in...we have the technology to track everyone. No need to invade.
to justice without going through a trillion dollar war. As for Clinton raising taxes...I do not remember the "rich", the "middle class", or even the "very poor" complaining
about the economy during that time. Read your history people! Try to learn something for once.
the only difference from the 1990's and now is that now we are finally seeing the corruption of the government. We do not truely have any rights, its all an illusion. The government can strip you of your rights when ever it feels like it. My Family still suffers from effects of the Tennesse project. If you don't believe me then answer this. We proved that bush rigged the election, that he actually lost. So why the hell is he STILL in office.
to the assholes that think they are the smartest people in the room, yeah, the 90s were a fun time, when Terrorists were at war with us, Bill Clinton was screwing women on the Oval Office floor, its a fun time for people who think the Presidency was a Soap Opera
1993 Terrorist Attack was shot heard 'round the country, and Bill Clinton wasn't listening. Thanks alot Slick Willie
Might as well say the same thing about 11/22/63,READ MY LIPS..(i wasnt in the cia and WASNT INVOLVED IN jfk'S murder).BUSH=LIARS P.S like father like scum!
Wow wtf is wrong with you guys you ever watch the news during clinton's time? wow you guys are seriously dumb. . .bad immigration laws and america was pretty much left by itself during clinton's time. . .
The Republicans need to stop making these "I'll never raise your taxes no matter what" promises. Sometimes circumstances require taxes to be raised, like during WW2. And I hear them all say, "I'm a tax cutter just like Ronald Reagan" when Reagan actually raised taxes in 1982 and was re-elected with 58.8% of the vote in 1984. That shows that the Republicans can at least be open to the idea of raising taxes under some circumstances and still win elections.
People don't even know how their government works. The President isn't God and Congress demigods. As in, the President isn't Supreme over Congress all the time. Congress can get something passed if the President vetoes it. Vetoing only postpones the bill if Congress really wants to get it passed.
Congress has to have a solid morgority in order to pass it. That is why if your have a split congress, the president is a lame-duck UNLESS you work with them. Clinton and Regan Did it. Congress wouldnt let Carter do it...and both bushes got burned.

Bush kicked ass, and there's little doubt.

Tax cuts + trillion-dollar war = catastrophe
Supply-side economics have run their course. How one can cut taxes for the rich and wage such an expensive war is completely beyond me. That's like going from saving $500 a month to buy a Hyundai, to cutting monthly savings to $250 and deciding to buy an S-Class Merc instead.

Do you really believe that Bush made this statement and did not understand the gravity of the nations debt??? Bush gave in to the Democrats. Big spending is what gave us all this debt, not tax cuts. No more Obama, no more Bushes, its time for balanced budgets like Gingrich's congress had in the latter years of Clinton's presidency.
mamaluke29 2 years ago
Clinton was a damn great president, you can't have the greatest economic boom ever without having a great president in office but the main reason the economic boom of the Clinton era happened was because of Reagan's Reaganomics, the whole thing just boomed once Clinton took office.

the only reason he had to raise taxes is because of Reagan's stupid Reaganomics which caused the public debt to go up. Bush did the right thing by raising the taxes because even though it cost him the 1992 election it helped a little bit to the good economy during Clinton's administration. Which the second Bush did all he could to fuck up.
Enio125 2 years ago 35
Actually, Reaganomics increased government revenue. But the Liberal Democrats running the House of Representatives increased spending even more.
In fact, Reagan was blamed for "shutting down the government" because he kept vetoing those increases, until the Liberal Media had everyone against him, and he had to sign.
Bush raised taxes because he was dishonest, and didn't understand economics. Reagan was right, Bush and the other Liberals wrong.
KAZVorpal 2 years ago
Yeah he raised them to reduce the debt and the deficit but it would have never happened if it weren't for the democratic congress while Bush was in office, plus we would have never had the economic boom during the Clinton era if it wasn't for Reagan's economic policy.

To be honest, GHW was OK, but it's a shame his son's an idiot. However, GHW is still retarded for reneging on his 1988 promise. That, in turn, would cost him the Election of 1992.
SSJ3Sandslash 3 years ago
Bush was seriously one of the Top 10 or 15 presidents ever. If you really look at his record and the good he did, he's up there. Second highest approval ratign ever at 89%. His son beat him temporarily with 91% after September, odd that his son now has the lowest approval rating of any president. It's a shame he was such a great president and his son is a selfish idiot.
ddtpfri 3 years ago
its ironic Bush Sr.'s approval ratings feel into the 40's and 30's in 1992, which is why he lost re-election, then rose after the election.
JohnMichaels20 3 years ago
He lost re-election because of Ross Perot. Most of Perot's supporters were formerly Republicans. If Perot did not run, those votes would have gone to Bush, giving him a landslide victory. Clinton would have only won Arkansas, Maryland, Washington DC, and New York. All of the other 46 states would have gone to Bush. If it wasn't for Perot in 1996, Bob Dole would have won too, by a narrower amrgin, but still won. Nader did that in 2000, gave the election to Bush Jr. Ok cuz I don't like Gore.
ddtpfri 3 years ago
your the stupidest fucking idiot on the internet.
JohnMichaels20 3 years ago
You dont have to be rude, I wasn't rude.
ddtpfri 3 years ago
When Perot was out of the race, which was from July-October, Bush was polling the upper 30's, EXACTLY where he ended up, and Clinton was in the mid 50's. It only got closer when Perot came back, perot rose, Clinton fell, but Bush stayed the same. Perot helped BUSH, as Bush was on his way to a landslide loss. His approvals were abysmal for 1992. If you even think Dole woulda won 1996, kill yourself. Clinton had high approvals, and was winning by a mile until Perot began attacking him.
JohnMichaels20 3 years ago 2
Yeah, but who were Perot's supporters? I can't buy that any of them were Clinton supporters. If you look at the popular votes for each state and you give all Perot votes to Bush, he wins most of the states. No one expected Truman to win in 1948, but someone he won, but it may have been because of Wallace and Thurmond though. It's also a fact that in 92 Clinton did not win a majority in those states. I guess I could go back and split Perot's votes 50/50 and see if that makes a difference, but
ddtpfri 3 years ago
you can't give "all of them to Bush." What the kind of voodoo logic is that? I'll trust data over what "you can buy," and the polling and exit poll data indicated Perot's votes woulda split on election day if he weren't on the ballot. Given Perot's stances, it makes a lot of sense, he was pro-choice, pro-gay, and against NAFTA in a year where Bush Sr. had approvals in the 30's and 40's. Don't try to compare bush to truman, Truman's numbers consistently rose thru 1948, Bush's stagnated

better, you are mistaken.
