Just once, they had a promo for this show and instead of any of the usual theme songs they played a version of "Poor People of Paris" (a very similar tune) that has always stuck with me. It may have been in one of the episodes where they went to London. There was a two-parter where the twins got separated from French when the bus they were on left without him.
it might have been a family nickname just as Cissy was (her given name was Catherine) but neverthe less I DID LIKE the name and the Series so quit picking on it
@vcomp1960 Why is that comment making me laugh so much? It did suck, and those children were nauseating--but I had a crush on Uncle Bill--and what a cool apartment. I was born in the 60's in the suburbs. I didn't know anyone who lived in NYC and had a BUTLER, for God's sake!
@nauort23 For some reason, this show creeped me out, although I always watched it. I think I watched because it was the only show on. Uncle Bill was sooo soft spoken, it made me sick, and French was just too formal and uptight. No comment on Buffy and Jody! I kind of liked the older sister (sissy?). She was pretty, at least........I was born in 60 and came from a small to medium size town in the midwest.
@vcomp1960 My Southern dad barked and cursed a lot, so cool and calm Manhattanite Uncle Bill was the tv "father" I liked best. I could handle French's formality, but I couldn't handle that priggish, pained expression that was painted on his face at all times. Were there no children in his corner of England growing up?
@nauort23 But don't New Yorkers have a reputation for being rude, especially people from Manhattan? I don't know about the Bronx, and the other burroughs but the news always portrays Manhattanites as rude. Or am I wrong?
@enigma413 That's what *you* think. That kind of accusation has always been whispered about single dads -- especially when they're not the real father but an uncle like Bill, or a stepdad -- especially with girls Cissy's age. It's like "Lolita". It's hell on single fathers who aren't like that.
Vcomp and Nauort, neither of you have NO TASTE whatsoever in terms of TV shows are good, FA was a WONDERFUL and SWEET show ahead of it's time, it may not have been relalistic but I enjoyed it as a child AND as an ADULT It's a HELL OF A LOT BETTER THEN SHIT like Marred w/ Children or Roseanne now talk about TWO SHOWS that REALLY SUCKED
I was seven when this show went off the air but I fondly remember the theme song & the jewels turning in the opening scene. It mesmerized me as a child. Later when I caught it on reruns, I found out what a great meaning the show conveyed. Brian Keith was so calm & cool and Sebastian Cabot was by far the only Mr. French. Great show. We bought the dvds.
@jed6271 Wow so you just happened to record these episodes with the alternate stuff. Nice. I didnt know if they had been extras from a DVD. God I loved this show. Sissy was my girlfriend. LOL What a crush. Thanks for the reply

Whenever I discussed the memories of this show with anyone, the door knobs in the center of the doors were always brought up.

I absolutely loved this show when I was little. The opening was kinda dreamy, glittery so I think they had me from the moment I saw that.

this probably is. He actually is Frank De Vol and was also responsible for My Three Sons and The Brady Bucnch for a few and many more.
Most of his credits just say Music By De Vol at end credits where he was responsible for the music.

DeVol, was he the same one who made music for "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" and "Herbie Goes Bananas"?
If so, he knows how to write good music. If not, he still does cos this is a good theme. :)
