I am so pleased and relieved that Chico and Barky are now together and getting on. The peition worked. I hope they have a great time together and Chico already looks more relaxed in the vids I've seen. He's such a star!

Chico's buddy Barky is now at the L.A. Zoo in quarantine. They are also getting 3 other meerkats....so...there will be 2 meerkat exhibits. Good luck Chico and Barky. I hope you get along well and live long and healthy lives.

I am not sure but thee is an exhibit where the prairie dogs use to be, in the children's exhibit. It may be there. Or they may put Chico and Barky there. But it is up to them, so we will have to wait I guess.

Keeping a social animal in solitary confinement is cruel. I wonder if this could be reported to the humane society? Maybe the LA Zoo should check with other zoos in the area to see if they have a female meerkat to spare. The Oakland Zoo has 16 meerkats, 11 are female, so it's not like it's impossible to get another friend for Chico.
Yes they would and we asked Fellow Earthlings to take him but they could not, but he is getting a buddy hopefully by this Christmas from another zoo. Let's hope it works and they live happily ever after. This would be a great Christmas present for Chico.
I was so saddened by Chico's plight that I signed the petition and forwarded it to all my friends in the UK. If he doesn't get a mate why don't they send him to The Fellow Earthlings Wildlife Centre that looks after meerkats? They'd give him a good home and quality of life.
what are the updates on this save chico project? i just found this on youtube today and was deeply saddened by his condition being all alone considering he is a social animal.
They say that another meerkat is coming at the end of the year. Hopefully all will go well and the introduction goes perfectly. Then Chico will no longer be alone.

OMFG!!! I just watched this video petition and CRIED!!!!!!!! Seriously ;"o{ I LOVE Animals!!! I used to feed and watch Mongoose in my yard while I lived in Hawaii. I own TWO Ferrets currently; but have owned 6 previously over the years. Both animals are are SO much like Meerkats I can relate to this video totally!! They need to get this lil guy a mate!! I would believe he could die from not only Neglect - but a broken heart ♥ I want to go to the LA Zoo!! Please sign this too if you have a ♥
I love this video. It really tells the story of how Chico and Spanky loved each other and were real pals. Then Spanky died and now Chico is all alone. Shame on the zoo for doing this to a little animal. He has no one to play with, no one to groom him and is in solitary confinement. How sad. How really sad to leave an animal alone and his exhibit left with only weeds. The zoo just does not care and it is obvious.
