  • omg

  • @nelliefigglehorn did you see other videos of one of the racers here crash? on friday

  • If you look at the airport layout on Google maps, where he touched down he was short on runway; had less than 1000ft left.

  • Every landing you can...

  • He has saved the other Airplanes ! (courageous)

  • nice 3 point landing

  • Since I was a kid, I always wanted to attend this event. Finally moved to the area in July, and was able to take in 2 days...including THIS one. Windy as hell, and I certainly agree with the cancellation of the big race. Still plenty to see, lots of good food & I can't wait for next year.

  • I agree with Agcatdrive on the whole 3/4 scale thing. The Thunder Mustang is not a full scale rep. Although it is an awesome plane!!!

  • That was a Thunder Mustang.

  • Best vid of the crash for sure. Glad he survived.

  • p51 noooooo

  • This was the reason they cancelled the Gold race....blame the wind all you want...I've seen them race when it was snowing.

  • @testpilot51 that was my first time at the event, drove out there from colorado and got to listin to that lame announcer say "The Bad Boys of Air Raceing" a few dozen times and then it never happened...huge disapointment

  • @testpilot51 so have i, but the fact is, when playing russian roulette, you can only pull the trigger so many times before you "win".

  • @testpilot51 This accident was NOT the reason the gold race was cancelled... there were three FATAL accidents during the week of Reno two years ago, and the races still went on. This was nothing more than an emergency landing that went bad BECAUSE of the high winds. Anyone with any appreciable amount of tailwheel time knows that high winds and taildraggers dont mix well. Cancelling the gold race was a safety call on the part of the race staff, and a good one as far as i'm concerned.

  • I wish that the Unlimited Gold race WASN'T cancelled... Anyway you get wut ur given

  • P-47?

  • @TonyAirlines Highly-modified Thunder Mustang. (3/4 scale Mustang kit plane with a V-12, but modified with a bunch of aero changes.)

  • @mjkobb The Thunder Mustang is a full scale replica kit... not 3/4 scale. Same size as the real deal. It's powered by the Falconer V-12, and puts up the same, and sometimes even better, performance numbers than the real P-51.

  • @agcatdriver I'm sorry, you're not correct. The Thunder Mustang is 3/4 scale. There's a nice table comparing the numbers between the Thunder Mustang and the original P-51 on Wikipedia. Just search for "Thunder Mustang"

  • @mjkobb My apologies, you are correct... Several years ago there was a company that had plans to produce a full scale Mustang kit, but now that I am thinking about it, the project never came to fruition. I had it confused with the Thunder Mustang.

  • @agcatdriver That'd be one hell of a kit! I think maybe I might have seen something like that at Reno at some point. Maybe even with a turbine in it...

  • Got back to Vegas early this morning from Reno.... Felt bad for the guy. It was very windy at the time... In fact The Unlimited Gold Race was Cancelled... BUMMER.... No Climax;but, as a pilot I think they made the right call... Especially since the previous flight culminated in a crash... WIsh the best for Pilot......
