As an Englishman, i'll say that the Britain was little more than a platform for imperialism, it's continuous existence only gives comfort to those ultra nationalists and their fascist friends who have dreams of Empire.
So if Scottish independence ends there dream then I'll drink to that.
Scotland is lucky to have Dick's voice, here in amerikkka it's getting more repressive everyday. Er need ten thousand Gaughans to stand up and sing for our lost rights.
England is lucky to have it too! I've heard Dick play live a few times and he's always a great performer. I want to see more of him on YouTube, and I'm going to go and see him play again soon. A wise man with a guitar.
As a Scottish conservative, I wish Dick Gaughan would leave the politics alone - he's a brilliant musician, and I really appreciate his music, but sometimes his politics gets in the way.
Och, all I meant was that I prefer the non-political stuff he does - I just don't like being preached to - I don't like a lot of American country singers for the same reason.
Hmm...and the truth is that Scotland is being held back by socialism and disrcedited, left-wing economics and politics that have been long discarded by countries that enjoy a far higher standard of living than ours.
Sweden is actually suprisingly conservative in some ways. school vouchers, privatised hospitals, a massive furniture store that pays no - yes - not a penny - of taxes...just because the have high income taxes doesn't make them socialists.
If you want your pure unregulated capitalism feel free to move to Somalia or any of the many third world hell holes where your dream exists. The truth is that free market capitalism has never existed in any developed country.
Saw Dick for the first time at a benefit gig for the UK miners on strike in 1983-84. He was awe-inspiring then and nothing's changed since. See him live if you can.
What's the odds on Scottish Independence? I'm coming to the Island this summer. I hope it will be the Untied Kingdom (no typo) by then, if that's what the Scots want.
That's really interesting. I don't see the purpose of holding onto something that no longer serves its purpose. Scotland can survive if it makes its own deals with the EU. Ireland hasn't fallen apart since it was let loose from the dominion. Of course, I don't think Scotland has the sectarian problems that Ireland has.

As a Scottish conservative you must meet your friends in a phone box. It's your politics that have been getting in the way not Gaughan's. Doylem.

Yes. We actually contribute more to the UK economy than we receive anyway but you wouldn't necessarily think that given our biased media.

Brilliant song. If the United Scotsmen`s revolt had been succesful, Thomas Muir would have been the President of the Republic of Scotland.
Him and Wolfe Tone were United Republicans against British rule.

What an amazing musician. This was truly a brilliant day what with Dick Gaughan and Dougie MacLean singing very appropriate songs about 'The Cause'.
