  • Thanks so much for sharing your procedure and recipe. I have always wanted to try and make them, but I didn't have a clue on where or how to start. I am going to make them with my Aunt this weekend.

  • bold move cooking with your wedding ring on Thumbs up man!

  • About 1 cup of the chile ancho water

About 2 bags of ojas (corn husks)

Masa spreaders or use spoons but the spoons take a long time for each one

  • Makes about 5 dozens

1- 8-9 lb. pork shoulder butt

1 bag of Maseca Para tamales corn flour- Make sure you have all the ingredients from the bag instructions

1 bag of chile anchos- the bag I used had about 4-6 in each bag

½ cup of Badia Complete Seasoning-Original

    5 cloves of garlic- minced

    **The rest above**

  • I just made these tamales with your ingredients suggested and they are the best ones I have tasted. I just beat my Mom's tamales, when I thought I couldn't! Thank you so much for doing this video! They are not spicy at all but anyone can add red pepper flakes to the meat mixture while simmering the meat. See what else I did on the next post.

  • I teared up several times watching you video. Reminded me of mi familia in California. Thank you.

  • Gonna make some tamales tomorrow! :D haha

  • I will take an Entire Lifetime's worth! (LAUGHTER) EYE 5

  • Is it pronouced "Toe-mall-yas" or "Ta-Malles"? I always pronouced it the later, but I was corrected by someone who felt that I needed to pronounce it correctly....sheesh..EXCUSE ME!!

  • Cute video. I remember at 6 I learned how to help make tamales. That's growing up in a Hispanic family for ya! Love our traditions!

  • We were hoping to make tamales for Christmas this year. This is a wonderful video, thank you.

  • I watched this video last year at Christmas time, it really helped to make my tamales. I watched it again today, since I am making tamales again this year. Your kids are a nice touch to the video!

  • I have just gotten into tamales would you believe? No more wheat for me so I've been experimenting and I agree with the movie about the Masa, (sp?) Yummmmm! Thank you for sharing your home and your children with us. - kimberly

  • Great video, especially when baby girl is narrating it, very helpful...

  • This video was so informative! Also, the whole family chipping in and doing his/her part makes the experience that much more sentimental; to be cherished. (I think if all families made tamales like you guys, the world would be a much happier place). Thanks so much for sharing!

  • there is this preson that is from el salvador and makes tamales sooooo good and differently. they cover it with banana leaf

  • Were not specific enough about what you added on the carnitas, y el jugo, y lo que echelon para aser la masa

  • Brilliant! Your children are adorable!

  • Such a cute video!

  • My grandma used to make tamales quite often... but I never knew how much work goes into them! But man do they taste great!

  • I love this video. I think it's important to show kids around the kitchen at a young age. It ALMOST makes me want to have kids.

  • Su hija tiene una vos tan linda =] And your tamales looks delicious, but they're too thin hahaha we make 'em huge!

  • NO WONDER!!!.....i was wondering why my wife was running back and fourth, from the kitchen to the laptop. I got on the lap top to see what the hell is she so serious about, and came to find out she's watching this while making tamales!!!!......WEIRD I TELL YOU!...I'ma go and laugh at her...ahahahah.

  • i was just looking for a recipe. this was so sweet it made me tear up a little bit.

  • she is amazing. natural television talent. good job little mamacita!

  • I seriously wished I had paid more attention on how tamales were made when my mom and dad made them at home! They used to make the best tamales ever!

  • I LOVE tamales. Haven't had the real deal since I was a kid b/c the neighbors moved away. Boy did I love when they'd bring us some food!

  • i'm watching this while eating a tamale.. the kind from the store that you heat up in the microwave. /; I really want to learn how to make some! Maybe one day mom and I can get together and have our own little fiesta. :)

  • Tamales are awesome but they are hard to make. I want to learn though. I need some hands-on.

  • The girl is adorable - I love her Spanglish! This process looked LOOOONG and PAINFUULLL!!! I live in Jalisco (currently), and I can whip up a batch of these things including cooking in 2 hours flat! First, use a portable hand mixer for the masa. I also have the masa as if thick cake batter, not putty. The tamals (tamal is the singular) will be lighter. I steam them for about an hour (1 in thick). Great vid, just sharing! :)

  • Adorable! Almost exactly the way we make them in my family. But we also wrap them in white deli paper so that the masa doesn't drip out. It's a family tradition in my family, all the women and girls get together for tamale making day. We also make the cheese and green chile (my personal favorite)..Yummy!!

  • I love this video!! Our local International Realtor Association held a luncheon featuring Mexican dishes for the holidays. I volunteered to make tamales, though I had heard they were difficult and time consuming. I reasearched the web and this was my favorite learning tool. They were a big hit at the party.

  • Thanks for the video! I just started making tamales the last 3 years (to carry on a Mexican Family Tradition) for Christmas time, and have only used the Chile ancho molido in packets. • tooooo cute!

  • I grew up with tamales made in corn husks (my family is from El Salvador), but I tried some made in banana leaves a bit ago. they weren't bad, but ,of course, not like I remember them from childhood.

  • mmmmm i love tamales. my grandmother and i made them all the time.

  • Awesome video. Thank you!

  • that was cute. lol LA BAMBA!!

  • yea masa ftw... tamals I can eat anytime of the year.

  • what kind of meat was cooking?

  • THAT girl is gorgeous, how cute!!!!

    Thanks for sharing =-)

  • how many chillis do you use for the sauce? and what else do you put in it. I just made some and the sauce taste bitter, I think i used to many ancho chillis. the first time i made the tamales the sauce was perfect and really red, today its dark and bitter.

  • for color you can use "Chile de arbol" And i rather make mine with "Chile seco" Or "Chile chipotle" those last two are in my opinion the best for tamales. Also, garlic. you can sautee the sauce and let it reduce for a litle bit, adding some pepper leaves. Don forget if you dont want them too spicy you can ad some roma tomatoes to the mix, boil them with the chiles and then blend it toghether. remember to use two chiles for every tomatoe, wear gloves to clean the chiles

    ..

  • This was not only informative but it is very entertaining. Having the little girl narrate it was a very nice touch too. Those little ones are very cute. Thank you.

  • Wow that was actually informative that girl is so cute! ha ha ha

  • Awesome video. I want to make tamales, and I have been watching several videos to get the basic idea, but I will add my own touches. I hope they turn out good, I have never made them.

  • Take your wedding ring off! lol.

  • Fabuloso!

  • This video is preious. It is simplistic in form, easy to understand, and true to a family that bring children into the group. That stove looks like mine during a day of cooking. I am white but I cook black, yellow, red, and if I knew any green people I'd cook green too. Thank you for sharing the recipe and the sweet voice of the little girl. I loved it.

  • Every race has dirty people in it, my aunt lived next to these people who had garbage ankle deep in thier house and they were white(county condemned it) and the people across the street had stinky clothes and dogs all over in thier house and they were mexican, I know this cause when I was little thier kids invited me in to play video games, I was shocked! There was a black girl at school that stank like I don't know what and every one avoided her so you see dirty people come in all colors.

  • Ok maybe ill just go buy some there is a lot of work that goes into Tamales.. gosh..
